Abstract

The assistance program for the "Bu Fatim" Tempe Chips micro-enterprise was implemented to help the owner tackle several key issues that were hindering the business's growth. The activities aimed to directly involve the partner and focused on actual needs identified in the field. The process began with team preparation, followed by a thorough observation of production activities, marketing practices, and the existing financial record-keeping system. Initial findings revealed that marketing efforts were primarily limited to direct, in-person sales. Additionally, the product packaging did not adequately protect the items during delivery, and financial records were not organized systematically. Based on these observations, the team developed an assistance plan that included creating digital promotional materials, improving packaging design, and introducing a user-friendly bookkeeping application. The implementation of this plan yielded positive outcomes, which included the establishment of a business social media account, the use of better-suited packaging, and more organized financial records. Overall, this program significantly contributed to strengthening the micro-enterprise's readiness to compete in the digital market.

Abstract

As a measure of business success, the performance of SMEs now faces challenges from rapid digitalisation and demands for more adaptive marketing strategies. This study aims to analyse the influence of digital transformation and marketing strategy on business performance, with business innovation as a mediating variable in tempe chip SMEs in Kampung Sanan, Malang City. The study uses a quantitative causality approach with an ex post facto explanatory method. The research population consists of 500 SMEs, with a sample of 245 SMEs selected purposively according to criteria. Data were collected through a 1–5 Likert scale questionnaire and analysed using Path Analysis with SmartPLS 4. The results show that digital transformation and marketing strategy have a positive and significant effect on business innovation and business performance. Business innovation also mediates the relationship between the two and business performance, although the mediation contribution is smaller than the direct effect. These findings confirm that the application of digital technology and adaptive marketing strategies, supported by innovation, can improve SME performance in a sustainable manner. The practical implication is that SMEs need to develop technology-based innovations, optimise social media, and formulate adaptive marketing strategies to strengthen their competitiveness.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented at the Sabilus Salam Sharia Cooperative, Notorejo Hamlet, Wonosalam District, Jombang Regency, East Java. It involved 25 farmers and 10 cooperative members, and was facilitated by a service team consisting of four lecturers and one master’s (S2) student. The uniqueness of this program lies in the utilization of kascing (earthworm castings) based on the local wisdom of Wonosalam, integrated with the use of local organic waste and the strengthening of cooperative institutions through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. This distinguishes the program from conventional organic fertilizer training, which is typically one-directional. The objective of the activity was to enhance farmers’ capacity to produce and apply both liquid and solid organic fertilizers based on kascing, in order to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and improve soil quality. The methods employed included socialization, participatory training, field assistance, and experimental demonstration plots. Standardized laboratory test results indicated an increase in soil pH from 3.25 to 5.42, organic carbon (C-organic) from 0.23% to 0.53%, as well as improvements in the levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Post-training evaluation showed that 84% of participants understood the stages of kascing fertilizer production, and 72% had applied it on their respective farms. Overall, the program proved effective in measurably improving soil quality and strengthening the independence of farmers and the cooperative in developing sustainable agriculture based on local resources..

Abstract

This community service research focuses on accelerating the managerial capabilities of ASTAGUNAKU, a batik fashion Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) from Blitar, Indonesia. The primary issue identified was a significant gap between the business's potential—supported by strong legality and technical competence—and its unstructured, intuition-based management practices, which severely hindered scalability and marketing effectiveness. This condition is common among artisan-based MSMEs, where superior product quality is often not matched by robust business management, creating structural barriers to growth. This study aims to transform ASTAGUNAKU from an intuition-led operation into a measurable and scalable business entity through a structured intervention. The method employed was the Managerial Insight Development Program (Program Pengembangan Wawasan Manajerial - PWM), a qualitative action research study conducted intensively over four months (September-December 2025). The program involved five sequential phases: needs identification through diagnostic interviews, SWOT analysis to map strategic position, practical solution formulation, hands-on training workshops, and intensive mentoring for masterplan development. The program's results demonstrated significant improvements in three core areas: finance, with the complete separation of personal and business assets and the standardization of Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) calculation using digital bookkeeping; operations, through the creation and implementation of visual Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for production and quality control; and marketing, by successfully expanding sales channels to major marketplaces and launching an official website, leading to initial sales from these new channels. It is concluded that the PWM program successfully built a solid managerial foundation, effectively shifting ASTAGUNAKU from an intuitive craft-based enterprise to a structured micro-business poised for strategic expansion and sustainable growth.

Abstract

The proliferation of "Black Box" Artificial Intelligence systems creates a significant ethical void regarding accountability and user autonomy, fundamentally challenging the right of individuals to understand decisions affecting their lives. This study aims to analyze the moral obligations of AI developers to implement Explainability (XAI) using the rigorous normative framework of Kantian Deontological Ethics. Employing a qualitative research design with conceptual analysis, the study utilizes secondary data from Kant's foundational texts and contemporary literature on algorithmic transparency, applying the Categorical Imperative as the primary lens. The findings conclude that the deployment of non-explainable AI constitutes a direct violation of Kant’s Formula of Humanity, as it reduces users merely to means for achieving computational goals rather than treating them as autonomous, rational agents. Furthermore, the practice fails the Universal Law test, which prohibits the universalization of opacity in decision-making processes. Consequently, the study asserts that Explainability is a non-negotiable moral duty for developers, establishing that predictive accuracy cannot ethically justify the erosion of human autonomy, thereby demanding a paradigm shift from utilitarian efficiency to deontological adherence in AI development.

Abstract

This study examines the process of improving the quality of pottery products from Pagelaran village in Malang mainly by improving the traditional combustion process. The traditional pottery craftsmen in this area have faced issues with both the aesthetic values and quality standard of their products, even having defective products due to poor processes. Despite these challenges, pottery craft in Pagelaran is considered a cultural heritage that has contributed to the welfare of craftsmen and the local community, as well as the preservation of local wisdom. To improve the quality of their products, the craftsmen in Pagelaran have focused on the way they use tools and materials, the technical production process by linking technology and the environment, the method used, and the effect on future environmental changes. This study employs a descriptive qualitative and action research, which involves the craftsmen community in Kampung Edukasi Wisata. Data is collected through observation and in-depth interviews and analyzed using the 6P simultaneous stages technique proposed by Winarno and Robfiah (2020). The findings of the study show that while the tools and materials used in the pottery production are still traditional, the pottery of Pagelaran is leading to innovative aesthetic products. Pottery production activities have an impact on the physical environment, requiring technology, methods, and cultural impact in the exploitation of the environment under the cultural ecology perspective. Despite the traditional production process, it has been integrated with user demands so that the quality of the product is improved through the standardization of the combustion process, product decoration, and additional touches of aesthetic values on the products. Overall, this study provides insights into how traditional craftsmen can improve their product quality through a focus on both the technical production process and cultural impact.

Abstract

Vocational higher education institutions face growing pressure to balance academic duties with entrepreneurial demands. At Politeknik Negeri Semarang (Polines), several issues hinder the effective use of internal resources for business unit development. These include limited managerial flexibility under the Public Service Agency (BLU) scheme, gaps between institutional policies and on-ground practices, underused productive assets, slow adoption of entrepreneurial values, and fragmented internal–external collaboration. This study aims to identify the key obstacles that affect efforts to optimize internal resources in supporting entrepreneurial activities within Polines’ business units. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, then processed in NVivo 15 using systematic coding. The findings show that challenges concentrate on three areas: managing productive assets, strengthening entrepreneurial practices, and improving collaborative networks. The study contributes theoretically by clarifying how institutional constraints shape resource optimization in vocational institutions, supporting insights from Institutional Theory and the Triple Helix Model. Practically, the study highlights the need for more adaptive asset governance, clear incentive mechanisms, and structured partnerships to enhance performance and sustain institutional development.
