Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the character development of elementary school students in the digital era through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines on articles published between 2022 and 2026, sourced from Scopus, ERIC, ScienceDirect, DOAJ, and Google Scholar. A total of 34 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed comprehensively. The findings indicate that the digital era offers significant opportunities for character development, particularly in responsibility, independence, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. The use of digital technology, social media, learning platforms, and artificial intelligence can effectively support character internalization when implemented appropriately. However, the digital era also presents challenges, including exposure to negative content, reduced face-to-face social interaction, increasing individualism, and the risk of moral degradation. Teachers, parents, and schools play essential roles in optimizing character education within digital environments. Strong collaboration among families, schools, and adaptive technology utilization is necessary to foster a generation that is morally grounded, digitally literate, and well-prepared to face the challenges of the twenty-first century wisely, responsibly, and ethically.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the transformation of principals’ instructional leadership in strengthening quality culture and implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in elementary schools. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Participants consisted of principals, teachers, curriculum coordinators, school supervisors, and school committee members selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. Data trustworthiness was ensured through source triangulation, method triangulation, member checking, and audit trails. The findings reveal that the transformation of instructional leadership occurs through the development of a school quality vision, the strengthening of quality culture through professional learning communities, the management of Merdeka Curriculum implementation as an organizational change process, and the application of collaborative leadership in addressing implementation challenges. Principals act as change agents by promoting teachers’ professional development, fostering a culture of reflection, and encouraging instructional innovation. The study concludes that the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum is strongly influenced by principals’ ability to build an adaptive, collaborative, and quality-oriented organizational culture.

Abstract

This study aims to construct an instructional leadership model for school principals based on Kemuhammadiyahan values within the context of an Islamic boarding school. This issue is addressed to overcome a persistent problem, namely the dichotomy of curriculum and the dominance of bureaucratic leadership styles that tend to neglect the academic substance of pesantren education. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, passive participatory observation, and document analysis at Pondok Pesantren Modern Muhammadiyah Sangen. Informants were selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques, involving the principal, vice principals, asatidz, and Muhammadiyah organizational administrators. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal three main themes: (1) the theological internalization of the values of Tauhid, Amanah, Tajdid, Berkemajuan, and Uswah Hasanah as the leadership worldview, (2) the articulation of instructional strategies through the mandatory integration of Al-Islam values in lesson planning and school culture formation, and (3) the formulation of a hypothetical model of progressive instructional leadership. This model synergizes balanced guidance for teachers and students through the implementation of a tripartite curriculum consisting of general sciences, pesantren classical texts, and Kemuhammadiyahan. This study contributes to the enrichment of value-based educational leadership theory through a progressive modernist Islamic leadership paradigm. Practically, the findings provide an applicable guideline for school principals in managing the quality of an integrated 24-hour curriculum. Future studies are recommended to examine the validity of this hypothetical model in broader pesantren contexts using a multi-case approach or research and development design.

Abstract

This study examines the principal’s humanistic leadership in enhancing teachers’ teaching motivation at SMP Muhammadiyah Pucang Gading. It is grounded in the complexity of educational systems, where low teacher motivation is often linked to bureaucratic leadership styles, excessive workload, limited appreciation, and insufficient emotional support. Although prior studies confirm the importance of effective leadership, research focusing on humanistic leadership—emphasizing empathy, fairness, individual development, and positive relationships—remains limited, particularly in Islamic-based secondary schools in Indonesia. This research aims to analyze how humanistic leadership contributes to improving teaching motivation and to identify its key dimensions, including empathy, participatory communication, and professional support. A qualitative field study approach was employed, involving purposively selected participants such as the principal, vice principals, teachers, and staff. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using interactive techniques with triangulation and member checking to ensure validity. The findings reveal that humanistic leadership has been positively implemented through empathetic practices, open two-way communication, professional development support, and a harmonious organizational culture, significantly enhancing teacher motivation. However, challenges remain, including inconsistent communication, administrative burdens, individual resistance, and limited facilities. Overall, this approach effectively fosters a supportive work environment and teachers’ psychological well-being.
