Abstract

The phenomenon of high education costs is a reality that cannot be denied. Currently, education is often considered a "luxury item" that can only be accessed by the rich, while poor people have to wait for luck to get a decent education. The stigma that has developed in society states that quality education is always associated with high costs; The higher the quality, the greater the costs that must be incurred. To implement the concept of community-based education on a campus, it is important to understand its principles, such as liberation, alignment, participation, curriculum that suits needs, evaluation that focuses on students, and self-confidence. This view seeks to eliminate the assumption that building this kind of educational concept must ignore local wisdom. It's time to empower, cultivate and utilize local values in the world of education. This kind of education can be an alternative to empower local communities, especially at SMP Negeri 5 Ledo, Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan Province.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the symbolic meanings in the initial, core, and final stages of the mande’ bedel keraja’ ritual at the Pakunegara Palace. The mande’ bedel keraja’ is an annual ritual of bathing the bedel’, the heirloom weapon of the Tayan Palace, serving as a protective rite (tolak bala) to ward off disasters and safeguard the kingdom from calamities such as droughts and disease outbreaks. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving two main informants and two supporting informants. Data analysis included reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the initial stage involves parading the bedel’ to Ujung Tanjung, accompanied by symbolic objects such as the bedel’, ketubong drum, tepa, candles, umbrella, yellow scarf, and flags of yellow, white, red, and black. The core stage includes the mengkasai and melangir rituals, symbolized by rice, turmeric, kaffir lime, and melangir. The tepung tawar ceremony uses symbolic materials such as rice, jeringau (sweet flag), kencur (aromatic ginger), sabang hijau, goat’s foot leaves, ganda rusa, and puring. The final stage involves rinsing the bedel’, where the water symbolizes healing and fertility for a bountiful harvest. The ketupat war ritual represents resistance against misfortune and gratitude for agricultural abundance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that cause imitative behavior among Korean drama fans at the Ratu Sepudak Female Student Dormitory in Pontianak City. The phenomenon of imitating Korean culture, particularly through Korean dramas, is increasingly prevalent among teenagers and female students. This study uses a qualitative research method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with four informants selected based on the criteria of intensity of watching Korean dramas and active involvement in Korean culture. The results of the study show that there are four main factors that influence imitative behavior, namely: (1) personal interest, which is related to interest in fashion, makeup, and character traits; (2) emotional needs, where Korean dramas become an escape when experiencing stress or boredom; (3) the influence of social media, which reinforces interest in Korean culture and encourages consumerism of Korean products; and (4) the social environment, especially friends in the dormitory who reinforce imitative behavior collectively. These four factors interact and contribute to shaping the informants' lifestyle, daily behavior, and adopted values. This study is expected to provide insight for academics, dormitory managers, and students regarding the dynamics of imitating foreign popular culture, as well as serve as a consideration in developing a selective and critical attitude in consuming foreign culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and roles of social solidarity within the Beuma tradition practiced by the Dayak Kebahan community in Entogong Village, Kayan Hulu District, Sintang Regency. The Beuma tradition, a traditional farming system carried out collectively (berari-ari), reflects the social and cultural values that have been passed down from generation to generation. It not only serves as a means of fulfilling livelihood needs but also strengthens communal bonds and preserves ancestral heritage. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method to obtain an in-depth understanding of the Beuma tradition. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving traditional leaders and community members who actively participate in Beuma. The data were analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing to identify patterns of social interaction and solidarity among participants. The results indicate that the Beuma tradition embodies strong social solidarity based on shared values, cooperation, and mutual assistance among community members. Social cohesion is maintained through collective participation in every stage of Beuma, adherence to customary norms, and shared experiences that create emotional bonds and a sense of togetherness. These elements form both mechanical and organic solidarity within the community. The Beuma tradition thus functions not only as an agricultural activity but also as a social system that sustains cultural identity and reinforces harmony amid modernization

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of mechanical solidarity within the Honda Astrea Rider Club (HARC) community in Singkawang through the perspective of Émile Durkheim. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with four informants selected using purposive sampling, supported by interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that mechanical solidarity in HARC is manifested through three main aspects: first, collective consciousness in the form of shared values of togetherness, kinship, and mutual assistance, which shape the group’s identity; second, normative consensus reflected in members’ adherence to community rules, maintained by the role of the leader and reinforced by social sanctions; and third, a simple division of labor without role specialization, where all members participate equally based on the principle of mutual cooperation. These findings affirm that mechanical solidarity continues to exist in modern communities built on shared interests and common values, while also contributing to sociological studies on the relevance of Durkheim’s theory in contemporary contexts and opening opportunities for further research on the potential shift from mechanical to organic solidarity within motorcycle communities
