Abstract

Islamic boarding schools shape students' character through intensive education, exemplary leadership (uswah hasanah), religious practices, and comprehensive moral development. This study analyzes the moral education models in two types of Pesantrens, encompassing guidance systems, implementation factors, and the internalisation of spiritual values. Employing a qualitative ethnographic approach, data were gathered through interviews, observations, and documentation. The analysis followed the stages of data condensation, display, and conclusion drawing, with validity ensured through triangulation. The findings reveal that: (1) The moral education model instills adab (etiquette), piety, and responsibility through worship, spiritual guidance, and social habituation grounded in the Quran and Hadith. (2) The educational process—comprising ritual worship, Quranic memorization, classical text (Kitab Kuning) studies, and methods such as exemplary behavior, counseling, and dialogue—plays a pivotal role in fostering discipline and deepening spiritual understanding. (3) The outcomes demonstrate significant positive behavioral shifts, including enhanced politeness, spiritual awareness, independence, and empathy. (4) Implementation is supported by routine worship and a conducive environment, though challenged by educator coordination gaps and external cultural influences via technology. (5) Comparative analysis indicates that while traditional (Salafiyah) Pesantrens focus heavily on adab and classical texts, modern Pesantrens integrate moral values systematically into the broader curriculum. Both models effectively cultivate religious character through discipline, respect, and social concern.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) faces challenges in improving students' understanding and spiritual intelligence, especially in the modern era full of distractions. The Neuroeducation approach, based on cognitive neuroscience, offers a more effective learning method by considering how the brain processes information. This strategy integrates multisensory stimulation, emotional engagement, and direct experience to create more meaningful and sustainable learning. This research employs a qualitative case study method, where data is collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis related to the implementation of the Neuroeducation strategy in PAI. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis, with validity strengthened through data triangulation from various sources. The results indicate that the Neuroeducation-based strategy significantly enhances students' understanding of PAI concepts and fosters the development of their spiritual intelligence. Experience-based learning methods, storytelling, and self-reflection proved to be more effective than conventional lecture methods. However, challenges such as teachers' limited understanding and technological infrastructure constraints remain. Therefore, teacher training and the integration of neuroscience-based approaches into the PAI curriculum are necessary to optimize this method’s implementation. With the right approach, Neuroeducation can be an innovative solution to developing a generation of Muslims who are intelligent, well-characterized, and have a deep understanding of religion.

Abstract

The Indonesian nation is a large nation that has very diverse ethnic groups, races, cultures, and religions. This diversity will be very dangerous if it is not addressed properly by its adherents. Conflicts of religion, ethnicity, become something that cannot be avoided when every society does not have a strong attitude of tolerance. Islamic education as an educational system has a moral responsibility in order to form a moderate society in an effort to strengthen the tolerance attitude of students through the learning model that it provides. This study seeks to uncover and analyze the development of Islamic education based on religious moderation in an effort to strengthen student tolerance in public universities in the provinces of Lampung and Banten. The research method used in this study is research and development design, namely research used to produce certain products and test the effectiveness of these products. The results of this study indicate that moderation-based PAI learning has a major role in the formation of student tolerance attitudes in public universities in the provinces of Lampung and Banten. PAI learning based on religious moderation has a strong commitment to instilling multicultural values into students so that they can respect the appeasement that occurs in the community. The results of the Development of Islamic Religious Moderation-Based Learning Model for students show that the PAI learning model can significantly increase students' religious tolerance. Therefore, the development of this learning model is highly recommended to be applied in the context of public universities, especially in the provinces of Lampung and Banten because they have a strong contribution to produce students who have a high tolerance attitude.

Abstract

The sustainability of Islamic education in Islamic boarding schools faces serious challenges amid social change, increasing demands for institutional professionalism, and the dynamics of religious values. This study aims to examine the practice of prophetic leadership at Pondok Pesantren Manahijussadat and its role in building a sustainable Islamic education ecosystem in Banten Province. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, and were analyzed thematically to obtain a comprehensive understanding of leadership patterns and the process of internalizing prophetic values. The findings indicate that prophetic leadership at Pondok Pesantren Manahijussadat is implemented through role modeling, deliberation, and service, and is grounded in the values of humanization, liberation, and transcendence. These values are not only embodied in the leader's personal conduct but are also institutionalized within the pesantren's systems, organizational culture, and governance. Prophetic leadership plays a crucial role in integrating various components of the educational ecosystem, strengthening cadre regeneration, and maintaining the continuity of values and social relations with the surrounding community. This study contributes to the literature on Islamic educational leadership by positioning prophetic leadership as a value-based foundation and an institutional mechanism for achieving sustainable Islamic education
