Abstract

Bureaucratic reform in Indonesia has been a key agenda since the early 21st century, focusing on enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accountability in government management. This study aims to delve into and analyse the bureaucratic reform process at the Tourism and Culture Office (TCO) of Malang Regency using the New Public Service (NPS) framework. Employing descriptive qualitative research methods, the study examines the internal and external factors influencing the effectiveness of bureaucratic reform in the agency. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, with triangulation data analysis techniques ensuring the validity and reliability of the findings. The results indicate that TCO Malang Regency has successfully implemented seven NPS principles: serving citizens, prioritising the public interest, valuing citizenship over entrepreneurship, thinking strategically and acting democratically, recognising the complexity of accountability, serving rather than directing, and valuing people over productivity. Programs such as Data Request or Interview, Malang Creative Hub, and Land and Building Tax incentives for cultural heritage preservation exemplify the application of these principles. Consequently, this research significantly contributes to the understanding and development of more modern, effective, and responsive public service practices in response to community needs in Indonesia, particularly in Malang Regency.

Abstract

Low student motivation in history subjects often leads to minimal participation and superficial understanding of the material. To address this, the study aimed to develop and evaluate a gamified assessment tool designed to enhance student motivation in learning history. Gamification, incorporating elements such as points, badges, and leaderboards, has been shown to increase motivation and engagement across various fields; however, its application in history assessments remains relatively unexplored. This research followed the Research and Development method, utilizing the ADDIE model. In the Analysis phase, data were gathered through surveys and interviews with teachers and students. The Design phase focused on creating the assessment tool with gamified features. In the Development phase, a prototype was created and validated by experts in history and media. The Implementation phase involved testing the tool with 10th and 11th-grade students. Data were collected through surveys, interviews, and classroom observations. Results demonstrated that the gamified assessment tool significantly improved students' motivation, with the average score increasing from 3.2 to 4.5, notably enhancing interest, engagement, and learning satisfaction. The final evaluation confirmed that the tool not only boosted motivation but also deepened students' understanding of historical content. This tool can be adapted for use by educators in Indonesia to address similar challenges in history education and can be extended to other subjects to enhance overall educational quality.

Abstract

Modern companies invest heavily in understanding future customer needs, but these efforts are sometimes unappreciated, leading to poor results. This research aims to understand future anticipation by linking it to companies' predictions of technological, cultural, and competitive changes and how consumers perceive these changes. Using qualitative methods, data was collected through semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions (FGD) with eight participants each. The findings show that customers highly value visionary company initiatives, forming positive memories that strengthen brand relationships. These memories, particularly in the precordium area of the brain, impact loyalty and shopping behavior, emphasizing the importance of introspection and personal experience. The research also introduces the concept of "massclusivity" and its relationship with elite consumers, like tablet owners. The novelty of this study lies in applying futurology in marketing and utilizing autobiographical memory. Keywords: consumer behaviour; corporate anticipation; era of uncertainty; future; technology products

Abstract

Infographics as a medium of historical publication has significant potential in conveying complex information in a simpler and easier to understand way. This research analyses the use of infographics as a medium of historical publication in the distribution of tetrarchs and monuments of the 1947-1949 Physical Revolution in Bantul Regency. The purpose of this research is to examine the effectiveness of infographics in presenting historical information in an interesting and easy-to-understand manner for the public, especially the younger generation. Although there are several sources of history books available, the challenge of presenting complex information in an interesting and effective way for the public, especially the younger generation, remains a significant issue. The research method used is qualitative with a historical methodology approach, which includes the stages of heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results show that infographics can effectively improve people's understanding of local historical heritage through a more visual and attractive presentation. By developing infographics that map important locations, this research is expected to enrich historical publications and increase public appreciation of historical events that occurred in Bantul.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the lack of ethnolinguistic studies exploring ritual language's role in traditional community character education. The purpose of the study is to analyse the verbal symbolism in ritual language and how the language is used as an informal educational tool. This study used a qualitative approach with ethnolinguistic methods. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with elders and ritual performers, participatory observation, and document study related to the oral tradition of the Dawan community. Data analysis was conducted using thematic and semiotic analysis to identify patterns of ritual language use. The findings show that ritual language in Korolele plays an important role in transmitting cultural values, such as solidarity, respect, and communal responsibility, to the younger generation. Language is a communication tool and a mechanism to internalise moral values and strengthen the community's collective identity. The ritual language in Korolele ceremonies is an effective instrument of culture-based character education, maintaining the continuity of oral traditions amidst modernisation. This study makes an important contribution to the study of ethnolinguistics, culture-based character education, and as a relevant informal education tool in traditional communities.

Abstract

This research discusses the strategic role of Kedaulatan Rakyat newspaper during the 1947-1950 Physical Revolution period as a propaganda tool, disseminator of independence ideology, and mobiliser of the people. Kedaulatan Rakyat functioned as the main media in disseminating information related to the independence struggle, especially in Yogyakarta, through the narrative of the victory of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) and the solidarity of the people. In addition, the newspaper played an important role in strengthening the spirit of resistance against Dutch military aggression through the narrative of anti-colonialism and nationalism in its editorial section. Despite the challenges of Dutch confiscation and limited resources, Kedaulatan Rakyat was still able to distribute information through a secret distribution network. By conveying military strategy and the success of the TNI, Kedaulatan Rakyat succeeded in mobilising the public, creating a sense of optimism, and strengthening popular support for the independence struggle. This research highlights how mass media can be an important instrument in a nation's political and military struggle.

Abstract

This study aims to test the validity of the adaptation of the Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT) measuring instrument on university students in Indonesia. This scale consists of 6 dimensions and 33 items. The method used in this research is to use a validity test with content validity using expert judgment and also calculated CVI using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). with research subjects as many as 202 students of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. The results showed that BAT has an Alpha Cronbach reliability of 0.913 which is included in the high category. However, the results of confirmatory factor analysis showed a mismatch with fit index 0.001 (Chi-Square), 0.863 (CFI), 0.849 (NFI), and 0.068 (SRMR) so it was concluded that the adaptation of the Burnout Assessment Tool measuring instrument on students in Indonesia was invalid.

Abstract

Language politeness plays a crucial role in maintaining harmony and effectiveness of communication, especially for elementary school students in cultural border areas. This study aims to understand the application of language politeness in the elementary education environment in the Java-Sunda border area. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive phenomenological approach to describe the phenomenon of language politeness in learning in grade 5 of SD Negeri Waringinsari and SD Negeri Bener. Data were collected through observation and recording of oral speech between students and teachers during the learning process, which were then analyzed using interactive data analysis techniques. The results showed that the principles of language politeness, formulated by Geoffrey Leech, were well applied by teachers and students in classroom interactions. Applying the principles of proverbs, Wisdom, Generosity, Respect, Simplicity, Agreement, and Sympathy proved effective in creating an inclusive and harmonious learning environment. In addition, the use of mixed language between Indonesian and local languages in classroom communication reflects adaptation to the local cultural context, which helps strengthen the emotional connection between teachers and students. Language politeness is important to maintain effective communication, build positive social relationships, and prevent conflicts that may arise due to cultural differences.

Abstract

The Dutch came to Minahasa land to exploit the fertile Minahasa land with various natural resources, but there was a pattern of social change that occurred between the Dutch who were successful in "making friends" with the Minahasa people. This slowly changed the structure of Minahasa society. So Minahasa is an area famous for having the largest and longest Dutch influence in Indonesian history. This article uses library research methods related to critical historical methods. The steps in this research are associated with using historical research methods which include :heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. The Dutch saw a lot of instability and rebellion in several areas that occurred in controlling the Dutch East Indies government and took the initiative to recruit military members again in a more intensive and selective way. The recruitment process for Dutch East Indies military members carried out in Minahasa was not followed by a rejection process. The presence of the Dutch in the lives of the Minahasan people created stereotypes for the people during colonialism. This certainly creates a paradigm for people's thinking during colonialism. The results of the reconstruction of the thoughts of the Minahasa people who had united with the Dutch certainly gave rise to resistance and disagreement regarding this friendly relationship.
