Abstract

Waste is a problem faced by almost every city in Indonesia, including Malang City. If not properly managed, waste can lead to environmental pollution. This issue is not only the government's responsibility; the education sector must also be actively involved in waste management efforts. Students and teachers should serve as role models for waste management, demonstrating both knowledge and real action, starting from the school environment. Teaching and learning activities will be more effective if conducted in a comfortable and healthy environment. One approach to fostering environmentally conscious schools is by conducting waste management training. Teachers and students are the primary participants in this training. This initiative consists of four stages: the preparation stage, the implementation stage, the evaluation and follow-up stage, and finally, the program sustainability stage. The active participation of teachers and students is crucial in ensuring the success of waste management training in schools. The expected outcome of this initiative is a school environment that is independent in waste management, where waste is properly handled within the school premises. This includes the availability of adequate trash bins and support for independent waste management practices. Additionally, facilities for processing organic waste into fertilizer using a fermentation system can be established to help green the school environment. Awareness campaigns and hands-on training on waste management will also be conducted to encourage students to care for the environment by implementing the 3R waste management system: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.Sampah merupakan permasalahan yang dimiliki hampir di setiap Kota yang ada di Indonesia salah satunya adalah di Kota Malang. Abstract

This study examines the Population Corner initiative at SMA Negeri 1 Stabat, intending to improve digital literacy through the School Literacy Movement (SLM). The main objectives are to provide an overview of the Population Corner program at SMA Negeri 1 Stabat as a form of digital-based SLM implementation and to assess students' literacy levels in population content using a qualitative approach to guide the development of a more effective Population Corner. The results showed that although the initiative has successfully integrated digital tools such as QR codes and cloud-based platforms to improve access to information, many students are not actively using these resources. Limitations of this study include the absence of structured management and a dedicated space for the Population Corner, which may affect its effectiveness. In addition, the study highlighted that many students were not fully engaged with the program, indicating the need for better strategies to encourage interest in population literacy activities. Recommendations for future improvements include increasing student engagement through dynamic activities, integrating interdisciplinary connections, providing geospatial resources, and improving the school's digital infrastructure to improve access to resources. Addressing these limitations and implementing the recommended strategies, the Population Corner initiative can increase literacy and awareness of critical population issues at the local and national levels.
