Abstract

Shield utilization is very important to protect employee and people from radiation. Therefore, the rules are made that one of them is to regulate construction design of diagnostic radiology room which meet radiation protection standart. Indonesia has natural resources which potential to be radiation shield material. The research has been done to determine absorption coeffcicient of bangkirai (Shorea laevifolia) and its comparison with Pb as wall of diagnostic radiology room. X-ray absorption between bangkirai and Pb as the following : Voltage, current and time of X-ray mobile were setted in 81 kV and 32 mAs, distance between focus and object was 100 cm, Multi Purpose Detector (MPD) placed under object, area of irradiation field opened in 5 cm x 5 cm, central beam placed in the center of objects appropriately and then expotion was conducted for untreated bangkirai with (Pb) and treated bangkirai which heated in 100°C for  60 minutes repeteadly according to variation of determined thickness material, finally expotion was conducted for each thickness for three times so that average value obtained and it was repetead until absorption coefficient value of this material obtained.  Result of X-ray absorption on bangkirai tests showed that absorption coefficient () effective for untreated bangkirai and treated bangkirai is 0,029/mm and 0,027/mm, respectively. Equality result showed that unheated bangkirai with 1,3 mm Pb is equivalent with 254 mm untreated bangkirai, while heated bangkirai with 1,3 mm Pb is equivalent with 273 mm treated bangkirai. To reach 2 mm of Pb, untreated bangkirai and treated bangkirai were used with thickness off 391 mm and 420 mm, respectively. Keywords : X-ray mobile, Multi Purpose Detector (MPD), Pb, Bangkirai, Absorption Coefficient ()

Abstract

The dose received by the patient and the radiographic image quality is determined by the value of the half value layer (HVL). Multi Purpose Detector (MPD) Barracuda, produced by RTI Electronics, Sweden, is a solid state detector that can be used to measure the value of HVL just one exposure. This study was conducted to evaluate the accuracy of measurement of the HVL’s value with single exposure methods using the MPD Barracuda. In this study the value of HVL measurements performed with distance of focus to detector 100 cm, field size of 10x10 cm2 and times- current 12.5 at a voltage of 50 kVp, 60 kVp, 70 kVp, 81 kVp and 90 kVp.  HVL measurement for single exposure method  conducted without the addition of Al filter. As for comparative used standard methods that use some thickness variation of filters from 0.5 to 5.0 mmAl. In the standard method, determination of HVL values calculated in two ways: interpolation formula and method of graphs. The results showed that the value of HVL using MPD Barracuda with single exposure method produces a lower value than the standard method used multiple filters and HVL calculated by interpolation and graphics. Keywords: Half Value Layer (HVL), Multi Purpose Detector (MPD) Barracuda, X-ray.

Abstract

Treatment Planning System (TPS) are used to determine the dosedistribution to be received before the irradiation in patients. To see how much radiation dose to be received on the target volume and surrounding critical organs that are required isodose curve. 2D isodose curves correction on non-homogeneous tissues done because in fact the human body not only in the form of soft tissue, but there are also other tissues such as bone tissue or lung. Isodose curve correction have been made using Tissue Air Ratio (TAR) method with Matlab software on a wide field of 10 x 10 cm2. Correction factor is obtained by comparing the effective depth of the TAR with TAR at each depth. Correction factor multiplied by the curve isodose for homogeneous phantom have been obtained from Percentage Depth Dose (PDD) and dose profiles. Corrected isodose curves obtained for nonhomogeneous phantom. Higher the density value on nonhomogeneous phantom, the attenuation will increase and produce the lower dose. Keywords: Treatment Planning System (TPS), 2D Isodose curve, Tissue Air Ratio (TAR), Correction factor, nonhomogeneous tissue, attenuation

Abstract

Research has been done to make isodose curve of electron beam with the energy of 5 MeV. Isodosis curve performed using PDD curves and dose on broad Profile 10x10 cm2 field; 15x15 cm2; 20x20 cm2; 25x25 cm2, with a depth of 0.5 cm; 1.0 cm; 1.5 cm; 2.0 cm; 2.5 cm. The purpose of this study was to obtain 2D isodose curve shape can be applied to TPS in Radioteraphy. The method which was used to form the isodose curve using PDD curves and dose profiles was done by equalizing the data at each depth using interpolation techniques at intervals of 0.25 cm and normalized to a value of 1, and calculatd the dose at each pixel using the weighting technique that formed isodosis curve with the distribution each depth and broad field. The results show that the PDD curve formed using the interpolation does not affect the magnitude of the dose at different field wide, profile shaped dose showed a dose level at each different depth and normalized to a value of 1 to show the dose at the surface, the isodose curve formation can be applied to compare the isodose curve formed by TPS in Radiotherapy. Keywords: Radiotherapy, Treatment Planning System (TPS), isodose curve, Percentage Depth Dose (PDD), Profile dose

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe examination of nasopharynx CT Scan for the diagnosis tumors, was performed by two phase, plain phase and contrast medium phase, so will result in a very high radiation dose to the organs in the head especially the eyes. This study aimed to obtain the value of the radiation dose was received organ in the eye in patient who underwent nasopharynx CT Scan.  The study was begun by measuring the consistency of the output X-ray tube voltage (kVp Output). Furthermore, measurement of the radiation dose to the organ eye using TLD-100 chips were placed on the surface of the eye organ of the 22 different patients with sequences and spiral scan mode, and using the slice number between 24 to 39. Measurement technique was done by using a tube voltage and tube current time fixed at 130 kVp, 250 mAs, slice thickness and slice collimation of 4 mm and 6x2 mm.The result on the eye organ doses of nasopharynx CT Scan two phase with sequence mode to obtain eye organ dose value between 83.291 mGy to 101.571 mGy, whereas the spiral mode to obtain eye organ dose values varied between 89.536 mGy to 109.359 mGy, showing that the value of the eye organ dose spiral modes greater than mode sequence. The results also showed that the value of the eye organ dose received about one fifth of the value of the damage threshold of the eye lens dose of 500 mGy. Key words: Eye dose, CT Scan, thermoluminisence dosimeter (TLD)

Abstract

Measurement of Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDI) Distribution in Body Phantom has been done in Dr. Karyadi’s Hospital. The purpose of this research were to find out value of CTDI in the five holes in body phantom and to determine relation between slice thickness and CTDI. This research used CT Dose Profiler in helical CT and CT Dose Profile Analyzer Software. This measurement applied protocol of abdomen with tube voltage 120 kV, time rotation 200 mAs, pitch 1, scan length 160 mm, and scan time 5, 07 second. Measurement was applied variation of detector position in the five holes (center, top perifer, right perifer, bottom perifer, and left perifer) and slice thickness   1 mm, 2 mm, and  3 mm. Average CTDI value in five holes of body phantom has range about 11,97 mGy until         13,17 mGy. There are slight differences among all of five holes. It show that dose ditribution in the center and perofer of body phantom tend to be homogeneous. The fluctuation of CTDI values for 1 mm, 2 mm, and 3 mm slice thickness has nocertain pattern or trend. CTDI values have slight differences among the thickness. The measurement show that   1 mm, 2 mm, and 3 mm slice thickness has 0,5 mGy difference to CTDI value. Keyword: CTDI, five holes, body phantom, slice thickness

Abstract

Accurate measurement of spatial resolution in terms of modulation transfer function (MTF) is essential in computed tomography (CT) images. The purpose of this study was to developed a computational phantom that can be used to evaluate the effect of noise on the MTF in CT images. Our computational phantoms for measuring MTF in CT were developed with MATLAB software. The phantom image was blurred by a point spread function of a certain standard deviation. Subsequently, different noise levels were added to the phantoms. Next, an automatic MTF calculation was implemented. The first step of the MTF calculation was to determine the region of interest (ROI). Profile was generated from the ROI, and a line spread function (LSF) curve was formed. The LSF curve was Fourier transformed to produce a MTF curve. Greater noise added to phantom image, it yields greater effect of standard deviation on the measured MTF. The greater noise makes the MTF curve increases differently than MTF with 0 HU noise. The 10% MTF values at the 25% noise reach more than 2.0 cycle/mm. By the developed computational phantoms, the spatial resolution and the amount of noise can be determined independently.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the automated measurement of slice sensitivity profile (SSP) on the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) computed tomography (CT) performance phantom for variations of slice thickness and field of view (FOV). The AAPM CT performance phantom was scanned using a Philips MRC 880 CT Scanner for variations of slice thickness and FOV. The slice thickness values were 1, 3, and 5 mm. The FOV values were 240, 300, 340, 400, and 440 mm. The automated SSPs and their fullwidth at half maximums (FWHMs) were automatically measured from the middle stair object of the phantom. To validate the automated measurement results, the FWHM values of SSPs obtained were compared to those from manual measurements. The differences between FWHMs from automated measurements and set slice thicknesses are less than 0.3 mm, while the differences between FWHMs from automated and manual measurements are less than 0.2 mm. The results from automated measurements are closer to the set slice thickness than those from manual measurements. This automated SSP measurement provides high accuracy and precision for both the slice thickness and the FOV variations.
