Abstract

This research aims to explore the effectiveness of the humanistic learning approach with the Among method in improving teacher performance in the Lumajang Regency Education and Culture Office. The humanistic approach, which puts students at the center of the learning process, is expected to increase teacher involvement, motivation, and competence in managing the classroom and developing student potential. The research method used is a qualitative case study, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The results showed that the Among approach significantly improved teachers' performance in terms of creativity, emotional engagement, and managerial ability. The study also identified some limitations and provided recommendations for further research. In conclusion, the application of humanistic learning with the Among method can be an effective model for improving teacher performance and education quality in Lumajang Regency.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia continues to face persistent challenges in students’ mathematical problem-solving and reasoning abilities, as reflected in declining international assessment results. These issues indicate a need for instructional strategies that more effectively cultivate higher-order thinking. CPS and PBL are widely used approaches, yet their combined effects with cognitive styles remain underexplored. Aim: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on problem-solving and mathematical reasoning abilities, and to examine the role of Field-Independent (FI) and Field-Dependent (FD) cognitive styles, including their interaction with instructional strategies. Method: A quasi-experimental 2×2 factorial design was implemented with 119 seventh-grade students assigned to CPS or PBL and classified into FI or FD groups using the GEFT instrument. Data on problem-solving and reasoning were collected through validated essay tests. MANOVA was used to analyze main and interaction effects. Results: CPS produced significantly higher gains than PBL in both problem-solving and reasoning. FI students outperformed FD students across both strategies. A significant interaction effect was found, showing that FI learners benefit most from CPS, whereas FD learners perform relatively better under PBL, although still below FI peers. Conclusion: CPS offers a more structured and effective pathway for developing higher-order mathematical thinking. Cognitive style strongly influences learning outcomes, highlighting the need for differentiated support. Instructional designs that integrate structured collaboration and cognitive-style profiling are recommended to optimize students’ mathematical problem-solving and reasoning abilities

Abstract

Social education programs often face challenges in effectively developing metacognitive skills in pre-service teachers, which are crucial for enhancing problem-solving and decision-making abilities in the classroom. Metacognition allows teachers to monitor and regulate their thinking, yet many teacher education programs lack structured frameworks to support this development. This study aims to address this gap by developing an Experiential Learning (EL) model designed to enhance the metacognitive skills of pre-service social education teachers. Based on Meijer et al.'s (2013) framework, the model integrates three core components: metacognitive knowledge, metacognitive regulation, and metacognitive responsiveness. A qualitative research design was employed, using expert validation through the Item-Objective Congruence (IOC) method and a Likert-scale suitability assessment. Five education experts evaluated the model’s alignment with metacognitive competencies, yielding a high suitability score of 4.56 out of 5. The model follows a learning cycle that incorporates concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. The results indicate that integrating metacognitive strategies into learning activities, with clearly defined instructor roles, significantly enhances pre-service teachers' metacognitive abilities. This research emphasizes the importance of incorporating reflective, contextual learning designs to foster higher-order thinking skills within teacher education, particularly in the underdeveloped field of social education.

Abstract

The teaching of Solar System material at SMP Wahidiyah Kepanjen rarely utilizes technology-based media, resulting in incomplete material, passive learning activities, and suboptimal cognitive learning outcomes. However, students are familiar with smartphones, making Android-based mobile learning a viable solution to enhance their understanding. This study employs the Lee & Owens development model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. To assess the instruments used, validity and reliability tests were conducted. The validity test results showed that the calculated r value exceeded the r table value (0.374 for N = 29), confirming that all 20 tested items were valid. A reliability test using Cronbach’s Alpha was also conducted, yielding a value of 0.489, higher than 0.374, indicating the instrument’s reliability. Expert validation showed high validity scores, with material experts rating 97.5% and media experts 95%. A small-scale trial with three students resulted in a 97.5% validity score and an N-Gain of 0.84 (high category). A larger test with 26 students yielded an 88.9% validity score and an N-Gain of 0.58 (moderate category). The findings suggest that Android-based mobile learning is highly effective for individual learners, as seen in the higher N-Gain score from the small-scale trial.

Abstract

Elementary School students are Alpha generation children who understand technology. With today's increasingly rapid technological developments, concept maps can be used to support learning with computer technology by utilizing the CSCL model so that students can interact and collaborate anytime and anywhere online. For this reason, interactive multimedia development was carried out with CSCL learning strategies assisted by Concept Map for concept understanding of elementary school students. This development research aims to produce interactive multimedia to improve the understanding of grade 5 elementary school students in aspects of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. We use the Lee & Owens model to test the product's feasibility. In addition, to determine the improvement in learning outcomes of grade 5 elementary school students, an N-Gain Score normality test and a hypothesis test were carried out using paired sample t-test on pretest and post-test value data. The developed product is interactive multimedia with CSCL learning strategies assisted by Concept Map, and it is equipped with content in the form of reading materials, learning videos, and evaluation tests. The results of interactive multimedia validation produce excellent criteria based on material aspects, learning media aspects, and learning design. The response of grade 5 elementary school students received excellent criteria for the feasibility of multimedia learning as a learning medium. Based on the results of statistical tests, it was concluded that there was an increase in learning outcomes after using interactive multimedia with CSCL learning strategies assisted by Concept Map.
