Abstract

Abstract

Obesity may cause coronary heart disease, hypertension, stroke, and other cardiovascular illness. Basic national health research on Indonesia (Riskesdas) showed that there is a growing trend on adult obesity: 10.5% in 2007, 14.8% in 2013 and 21.8% in 2018. Obese people are commonly having a low fitness level. In this time of pandemic, tele- exercise, or live exercise via live, online video, may become an effective substitute for exercise outside of home, mainly for employees who spent most of their time in front of a computer. The aim of this study itself is to analyse the effects of basic strength tele-exercise vs. combination of strength and cardio tele-exercise on fitness and body composition. This research was a quantitative, descriptive observational study, with cross-sectional design. Data collection and intervention was taken and given respectively for 3 months. Intervention was given via live online video, using Zoom as a medium, consisting of 3 days of exercise/week. The subjects was then divided into 3 groups: strength exercise (SE), strength-cardio exercise (SC), and control (CT) group. Independent variable is exercise while dependent variables are body composition (fat mass, total body water, fat-free mass, protein mass, mineral mass, and percent body fat and fitness level(VO 2 Max, push-up count, sit-up count, sit-and-reach distance). We found that all aspects of subjects’ body composition (fat mass, total body water, protein mass, mineral mass, percent body fat, fat-free mass) did not significantly change for all groups (pgt;0.05). In SE, there are significant changes in flexibility and cardiorespiratory fitness, while in SC, all aspects of fitness are increased. We suggest that diet must be monitored as well, and timing of body composition and hydration status must be taken into consideration.

Abstract

This study is intended to analyse type and amount of MSS (Mangrove worm, Snail and Shell) consumed by the local people live in 12 estuary villages of Mimika. About 30 people for each village - consist of children (2-10 yrs), teenages (11-19 yrs) and adults (>=20 yrs) from both sexes, were selected as subjects. The data collected include socio-economic ofthe family, type and amount of MSS consumption. The results showed that Bactronophorus thoracites (tambelo), Nerita balteata (snail) and Telecopium telescopium (snail), Naqueita capulina (snail) and Geloina sp (shell), Geloina cf coaxan (shell) were the six types of MSS commonly consumed by people in the study areas; and they were consumed by more than 10 % of the subjects with eating frequency more than three times a week for each. The mean intake of tambelo, snail and shell was 290.1±509.4, 96.0±271.2, and 152.8±278.6 g/week respectively in edible portion. Among the age groups, the highest intake of ambelo (433.2±627.5 g/week) and snail (133.8±387.9 g/week) was in adults, but the highest intake of shell (213.7±369.7 g/week) was in teenages. Intake data by village showed that, the highest intake of tambelo was in male of Mioko (542.1±730.8 g/week), the highest intake of snail was in female of Karaka (649.2±487.9 g/week), and so for shell (599.8±484.0 g/week). This implies that the MSS play important roles in the diet of the local people of Mimika’s estuary.

Abstract

Some local foods have cultural and health benefits. Mollusca such as tambelo – a mangrove worm, snail and shell (TSS)  contain essential amino acids and micronutrients required  for optimum health.  This study is aimed to analyse the perception of local community at estuary of Mimika on culture and health benefits of consuming the TSS.  For this purpose 158 people of  the 12 estuary villages, which consist of children (1-11 yrs), teenages (12-19 yrs) and adults (>20 yrs)  from both sexes, were selected  as  subjects.  The data collected covers socio-economic of the family, perception of subjects on cultural and health benefits of the TSS, and  ways to consume the TSS. The results showed that the TSS has significant intangible benefits for culture and health of Mimika’s estuary community. In terms of culture, tambelos (Bactronophorus thoracites and Bankia orcutti) are used as a special entry food for local custome rituals; and  both snails (Telecopium telescopiu, Nerita balteata, dan Naqueita capicana) and shells (Geloina cf coaxan dan Geloina, sp) are used  as  a special main menu for lokal costume rituals. In terms of health, the general health benefits of eating TSS is for strengthening and maintaining optimum stamina.  In addition,  Geloina, sp (a shell) is used for wound healing; and  Bactronophorus thoracites (a tambelo), which is called  as “kamoro pil” by Kamoro ethnic, is consumed to have better production of breastmilk, and to have  prevention and theurepetic effects of malaria, cough, flu, rheumatic and backache, as well as  approdisiac and appetite effects. Tambelo is consumed freshly, while snails and shell are steamed or roasted before they are consumed.

Abstract

Nutritional status of pregnant women can be measured by anthropometry which is simple and non expensive. Waist circumference of pregnant women (WCP) may reflects uterus and fetus  growth. The objective of this study is to develop an estimation model of birth weight based on WCP during the third trimester. For this purpose 250 pregnant women were selected from six health centers and five midwife clinics of Tanah Sareal, Bogor.  Body height and weight, waist and hip circumferences, mid-upper arm circumference, fundal height were measured on 28th, 32nd , and 36th  week of gestation. Body weight prior to pregnancy, history of pregnancy and birth, and food consumption  was collected through an interview. The results show the two most appropriate estimation models of birth weight are based on WCP (R2=28.58%) and body weight (R2=28.27%) on 28 week of gestation, with the equations are : birth weight =  166.4(WCP)3 - 977.6(WCP)2 + 1914.7(WCP) - 1246.6 and birth weight = 14.7(body weight)3 - 79.4(body weight)2 + 143.1(body weight) - 82.5. Further prospective study with larger sample size are required to develop an estimation model of birthweight.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze trend of wheat flour consumption and its processed products in Indonesia since 1993 until 2005.  The data used were food consumption data of Socio-economic Survey (SUSENAS) collected by Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik, BPS). The results showed that the wheat flour consumption and its processed products tended to increase from 1993 to 2005. The rapid increase was occurred in the period of 1993-1996 and 1999-2005.  Three kinds of wheat flour-processed products that significantly increased were instant noodle, fried food and snack for children.  The average consumption level of wheat flour and their processed products in 2005 in urban areas were higher than the consumption level in rural areas, namely 47.7 vs. 36.3 g/cap/d.  Among all of the wheat flour-processed food, wheat flour based-fried food, instant noodle, and noodle with meat ball (mie bakso) were the most three popular kind of wheat flour processed products consumed by Indonesian people, 49.4, 48.6 and 44.7% respectively. The consumption pattern was relatively similar between urban and rural areas.  It indicated that wheat flour processed food had already been a part of food consumption pattern of Indonesian people.

Abstract

This study was aimed at analyzing risk factors of nutritional anemia among new students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). A logistic regression model for 1907 new students’ record data matched with health record data was selected and applied on anemia risk factors analysis. The result showed that 10.9% and 21.4% of the students were suffering from nutritional anemia and proteinuria respectively. The risk factors of nutritional anemia among the new students of IPB are sex, age, family income and proteinuria status. The nutritional anemia risk is higher among female students (OR = 1.36); among younger age (age < 18 year); among students from low income family (OR = 1.70); and students suffered from proteinuria (OR = 1.49). This implies that the regular monitoring and controlling of both anemia and proteinuria among the students by Polyclinic of IPB are urgently required.

Abstract

Index of food intake diversity or dietary diversity reflects the nutritional quality of the diet; and it is associated with nutritional health outcomes. Understanding factors determine index of dietary diversity is important for improving nutritional-health status of the people.  However, no studies have been done to capture completely the determinant factors of dietary diversity. This journal article is intended to review the determinants factor of dietary diversity from studies done in both develop and developing countries at individual and household levels.  The results show that four studies analyzed the food data at individual level and the other four studies analyzed the food data at household level; and most of the studies were done in USA. Method of dietary diversity measurement and its statistical analysis varies among the studies. A few dietary diversity studies have investigated particular determinant factors with attention given to assessing nutrition knowledge and socio-demographic factors; and the others on economic and ecological factors.  The present review  suggested that the determinant factors of dietary diversity are nutrition knowledge, food preference, household size and composition, food availability and ecological factors, time availability for food preparation, and food purchasing power e.g. income, food expenditure and food prices. Based on this review a comprehensive conceptual framework and model of the determinant factors of dietary diversity could be developed.
