This research is based on seeing role playing learning methods effectiveness aplication as a social studies learning strategy to foster social awareness of students in class IX MTs Negeri I Sragen. Student activity is an important factor that influences for learning outcomes improvement as well as fostering social awareness. Researcher try to find the result studies and use qualitative approach with the Kemmis and McTaggart classroom action research model, and was carried out in two cycles. Data analysis was carried out by the researcher covering several activities, namely: Observation, pre-test and post-test in the application of the role playing method, interviews, distributing questionnaires, and conducting documentation. This study has result that most students liked learning Social Sciences as evidenced by learning outcomes. In cycle I the average score was 74.7%, then in cycle II it increased to 79.8%. Beside that this methode also improving learning outcomes, the role playing method also has improved students' social awareness, where most showed empathy, helping each other, tolerance, cooperation, and respect. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini didasarkan untuk melihat efektivitas penerapan metode pembelajaran bermain peran (role playing) sebagai strategi pembelajaran IPS menumbuhkan karakter peduli sosial siswa di kelas IX MTs Negeri I Sragen. Keaktifan peserta didik merupakan faktor penting yang berpengaruh pada peningkatan hasil belajar sekaligus menumbuhkan karakter peduli sosial. Untuk menemukan hasil, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jensi penelitian tindakan kelas model Kemmis dan McTaggart, dan dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Analisis data dilakukan oleh penliti mencakup beberapa kegiatan, yaitu: Observasi, pre-test dan post-test dalam penerapan metode role playing, wawancara, menyebarkan angket, serta melakukan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa sebagian besar peserta didik menyukai belajar Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial yang dibuktikan melalui hasil belajar. Pada siklus I rata-rata nilai 74,7%, kemudian pada siklus ke-II meningkat menjadi 79,8%. Di samping peningkatan hasil belajar, metode role playing juga meningkatkan karakter peduli sosial siswa, di mana sebagian besar menunjukkan sikap empati, saling membantu, toleransi, kerja sama, dan menghargai.
