Abstract

This study examines the strategies implemented by SMK Mulia Bakti Purwokerto in increasing competitiveness amidst the tight competition in education, especially in the era of globalization that demands the quality of graduates who are ready to work and highly competitive. Based on the rational choice perspective, this study focuses on how schools make strategic decisions that can improve the quality of learning and attract prospective students. This study shows that SMK Mulia Bakti implements various innovations, such as industry-based curriculum, one-machine-one-student system, teaching factory, and learning block system to prepare students with practical skills relevant to industry needs. In addition, 70% of learning time is allocated for practicums, which increases students' work readiness. Other important findings are the increase in the number of students by 200% in the last two years, as well as the absorption rate of graduates into the workforce which reached more than 80% in the first six months after graduation. This approach has also proven successful in attracting more students to enroll in this school, indicating that the quality of practice-based education can strengthen the attractiveness of SMK in the eyes of the public. This study provides recommendations to improve cooperation with the business world and expand the application of industry-based curriculum in other vocational schools to strengthen the competitiveness of vocational education in Indonesia.

Abstract

The tectonic setting of Sumatra Island is strongly influenced by the oblique subduction of the Indo-Australian Plate, which subducts the Eurasian Plate at a speed of 52–60 mm/year. The movement of these plates resulted in the Northern Sumatra region having seismic sources from tectonic and volcanic activity. The data used in this study is in the form of seismic wave travel-time recorded by numerous seismic stations in the research area from January 2012 to December 2020. The data comes from 5,003 earthquakes recorded by the BMKG seismic network. The inversion is a simultaneous inversion between seismic velocity models (Vp and Vs) and hypocenter parameters by applying a double-difference seismic tomography algorithm. Tomogram results in parts of Aceh (Singkil and Subulussalam) and North Sumatra (Pakpak Bharat and Dairi) at a depth of 0 km show negative perturbations in Vp and Vs values and high Vp/Vs values. The anomaly is most likely related to cracks in fluid-saturated rocks. The tomograms in the south of Lake Toba at depths of 30 km and 40 km have high Vp and Vs perturbation values and low Vp/Vs values. This anomaly indicates a magma supply line that is no longer active or has cooled for a long time. Based on the seismic tomography modeling results, the subducted Indo-Australian Plate to the Eurasian Plate is visible in the study area.

Abstract

The communities of cassava chips apply conventional cooking stoves, which are wasteful of fuel, high air pollution, unclean working environment, and cracks quickly. The technology of refractory brick stove with a modification of the combustion chamber is applied to this cooking stove. A new furnace was made using SK-34 refractory bricks. The stove construction requires little skill and is easy to implement. The results obtained from the stove are much more robust, fuel-efficient, and a clean, healthy and comfortable working environment. In addition, because it is easy to manufacture, people will easily understand and make their refractory brick stove and maintain it. Using a refractory brick stove to produce 40 kg of cassava chips requires a frying time of 2 hours 22 minutes and consumes 89.4 kg of firewood. Meanwhile, using a conventional stove takes a frying time of 3 hours 23 minutes and consumes 117.3 kg of firewood.

Abstract

This community service aims to help the UMKM engaged in the food industry in Sidosari Village, Natar District, South Lampung Regency (partners). Partners never replace used cooking oil (waste cooking oil) with new ones, but only add new oil to used cooking oil for frying the next food. Partners consider that using used cooking oil from branded cooking oil will be safe to use many times, thereby saving on expenses without knowing the consequences. This understanding is due to the partner's low level of awareness. Therefore, the community service (PkM) is very appropriate for understanding partners about the dangers of waste cooking when used repeatedly without ever being replaced with a new one. The methods used in this service include: socialization, training, and direct practice of processing and making eco-friendly handmade solid laundry soap from used cooking oil. Socialization has been explained the dangers of using cooking oil for health and the environment. Training and practice were provided to partners on how to process and make eco-friendly handmade solid laundry soap made from used cooking oil and bath soap from new oil for household use and even for sale. After participating in this service, residents and the UMKM in particular no longer used cooking oil repeatedly to fry their products to increase product quality. They are enthusiastic to continuously make solid soap from used cooking oil for washing purposes and even make it from new oil for bath soap purposes. Thus, it will save the cost of shopping for laundry soap and bath soap reduce dependence on manufacturer's soap so that the environment is not polluted by detergent waste. It can even be an additional income for those who are serious about getting into the business of making this laundry soap and environmentally friendly homemade bath soap.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of child education according to Sa'id bin Ali bin Wahf Al-Qahthani in the book Tarbiyatul Aulad, its relevance to child education in the modern era, and the application of its principles in contemporary Islamic education practices. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach through primary and secondary literature analysis. The results show that Tarbiyatul Aulad offers a comprehensive concept of education based on tawhid, moral development, worship habits, and the development of children's intellectual, emotional, and social potential. This concept is still relevant to the needs of modern education that often emphasizes cognitive aspects, but lacks the spiritual and moral dimensions. The application of the principles of Tarbiyatul Aulad can be done through the synergy of family, school, and community in building holistic education based on Islamic values. Thus, this study confirms that Al-Qahthani's thoughts can be used as practical guidelines to strengthen Islamic education amid the challenges of globalization.
