Abstract

Studies emphasize that learning motivation is one of the primary elements that affect the achievement of learning objectives and at the same time, influences the skill of mathematical problem-solving. Research on the correlation between mathematical problem-solving and learning motivation despite numerous attempts at solutions, the correlation value is heterogeneous, making it inconsistent. This study aims to summarize the effect-size values obtained based on the main research through the correlation meta-analysis method. The literature data collection technique used the Google Scholar database which was selected using the inclusion criteria. Primary studies that fit the criteria consisted of 20 studies published in journals, proceedings, and theses from 2016 to 2022. Three steps of data analysis, including publication bias research, random or fixed effect models, and statistical hypothesis testing, were conducted using the Jeffreys Amazing Statistics Program (JASP) program. The results of the study show that there is a positive influence of learning motivation on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in Indonesia in the moderate category (r = 0,56; p < 0,01). The results of this study suggest educators to further optimize students' learning motivation because learning motivation influences the level of students' mathematical problem-solving ability. Keywords:  Learning motivation, mathematical problem-solving, problem-solving, meta-analysis

Abstract

Teachers do not simply conduct online or remote learning by delivering materials to learners, but rather through optimal preparation to ensure effective implementation. The shift to long-distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic required teachers to master their subject matter, align personal interests and talents with educational goals, and demonstrate a positive professional attitude. This study aimed to determine the readiness of primary school teachers in implementing online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Using a quantitative survey design, the research was conducted in primary schools across the Jakarta metropolitan area (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi). Participants (n=280) were selected using a combination of random and convenience sampling techniques. Data were collected using the Teacher Readiness for Online Learning Measurement (TROLM) instrument developed by Ming Hu in 2015 and analyzed using percentage calculations. The results showed that teachers demonstrated emotive attitudinal readiness of 54.4%, cognitive readiness of 55.9%, and behavioral readiness of 51.5%, indicating that overall, they are well-prepared to implement online learning. Based on these findings, it is recommended that continuous professional development, adequate digital infrastructure, and sustainable policy guidelines be provided to further enhance teachers’ digital pedagogical competencies and ensure the long-term effectiveness of online learning beyond the pandemic context

Abstract

This study aims to examine the Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of teachers in teaching the Two-Variable Linear Equation System (TVLES) material. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving three mathematics teachers who taught TVLES to eighth-grade junior high school students. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews as well as analysis of instructional portfolios, including lesson plans, worksheets, and teaching materials related to TVLES. The interview protocol consisted of ten questions based on the five components of PCK: orientation to teaching, curriculum knowledge, knowledge of students’ understanding, knowledge of instructional strategies, and knowledge of assessment. The data analysis followed the stages of data collection, reduction, presentation, verification, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through time triangulation and the use of multiple data sources. The results revealed that teachers demonstrated adequate competency in three PCK component (orientation to teaching, knowledge of students’ understanding, and assessment knowledge), while curriculum knowledge and instructional strategies remained underdeveloped. Based on these findings, it is recommended to establish collaborative forums and provide ongoing mentoring to help teachers enhance their curriculum knowledge and instructional practices. Curriculum developers should also ensure that teachers have sufficient resources and support to implement TVLES materials effectively in the classroom.

Abstract

Abstract

Contextual learning, which applies the PBL, CTL learning models and RME approach is one of strategy to improve students’ mathematical literacy skill. Over the past five years, there have been many studies on the effect of applying PBL, CTL, or RME on students’ mathematical literacy. However, these studies still report mixed results. Therefore, this study aims to examine the overall effect of applying contextual learning models/approach (PBL, CTL, and RME) on students’ mathematical literacy skill, as well as to axamine the effectiveness of using the learning models or approach based on the effect size produced. This study use a meta-analysis method with data collection using the PRISMA model and obtained 16 out of 214 studies published between 2020 and 2025 that met the inclusion criteria. The data analysis used Comprehensive Meta Analysis (CMA) software and a random effect model as the estimation model. Based on the results of calculating the combined effect size using Hedges’g formula and interpreting Cohen’s d, it can be concluded that the influence of contextual models or approaches on mathematical literacy was in the large effect category (ES=1,333) while the calculation of the the effect size of each model showed that the PBL model  (ES=1,654)  had a higher effect than CTL (ES=0,660) and RME (ES=1,313). The characteristics of the studies in this research were learning model/approach, sample size, and grade level. The results of the study characteristic analysis showed that, in general the learning models/approaches (Qb=4,428<5,991 ) and sample size (Qb=2,034<3,841) did not significantly affect the difference in effect size, but grade level (Qb=6,547<5,991) did affect the difference in effect size.

Abstract

Mathematics plays a fundamental role in developing logical, analytical, and systematic thinking; therefore, mathematics learning should emphasize not only procedural mastery but also meaningful conceptual understanding. One essential process standard in mathematics learning is mathematical representation, as it enables students to organize ideas, communicate reasoning, and transform abstract concepts into visual, verbal, and symbolic forms. In plane geometry, particularly quadrilaterals, many students experience difficulties in drawing accurate figures, linking geometric properties to formulas, and translating contextual problems into mathematical models. In addition to cognitive challenges, affective factors such as low perseverance and the tendency to give up easily indicate the need to strengthen students’ mathematical resilience. This study aimed to develop a group investigation–based mathematics e-comic for quadrilateral topics at the junior high school level and to examine its feasibility and effectiveness. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The product was validated by subject-matter experts and media experts and implemented with 32 seventh-grade students at SMP NU Darul Ma’arif. Data were collected through validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and learning evaluations. The results indicate that the developed e-comic meets high feasibility criteria and receives positive responses from teachers and students. The integration of narrative visuals with group investigation activities enhances engagement, supports students’ understanding of quadrilateral concepts, and encourages active participation and discussion. Therefore, the proposed e-comic is suitable as an alternative learning medium for junior high school mathematics instruction.

The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The product developed is a learning tool consisting of a syllabus, lesson plans, student worksheets (LKPD), mathematics e-comics, and a mathematical ability representation test. The subjects of this study were seventh-grade students of SMP Darul Ma'arif Indramayu NU in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, observations of learning implementation, and pretests and posttests. The results of the study indicate that the mathematics media based on the Group Investigation E-comics was declared very valid by experts in terms of material, media, and language with an average value above 88%. The media was also declared practical and a good learning implementation based on positive student responses. After being tested for its effectiveness, the mathematics e-comics were able to improve students' resilience in mathematics by increasing perseverance, motivation, and positive attitudes in solving mathematical problems. The contribution of this study is to make learning more effective, especially for materials that are considered boring or complex for students. Thus, the mathematics learning media based on the Group Investigation E-comics model is worthy of being used as an innovative alternative in junior high school mathematics learning.
