Abstract

Mathematics research often focuses only on students' learning outcomes without considering their emotional aspects. This study aims to describe the tendency of students' sentiment toward mathematics in general and partially based on mathematics learning outcome groups, namely high, medium, and low. In addition, a mood analysis was conducted using Ekman's Basic Emotion classification. Data collection techniques are questionnaires and documentation. The questionnaire contains open questions about students' opinions on mathematics and closed to queries for student demographics. Documentation is done by collecting test scores from student grade books. This study used a descriptive method with data in the form of 72 comments from grade XI high school students in Bandung City, which were analyzed using the Orange Application Sentiment Analysis. The results of the study showed that (1) student sentiment was generally dominated by positive sentiment at 72.22%, (2) positive sentiment also dominated the groups of students with high, medium, and low learning outcomes, with a percentage of more than 68%, and (3) the results of the classification of emotions based on Ekman's Basic Emotion indicated that "joy" was the most dominant emotion, while "anger" had the lowest frequency of occurrence. This study provides new insights regarding students' emotional aspects in mathematics learning, which can be used to improve teaching strategies.

Abstract

The mathematical literacy skills of Indonesian students, as reflected in the PISA results, continue to be a concern because of their poor performance. Students with high mathematical disposition and high self-efficacy are often more proficient in mathematical literacy. This study aimed to examine how mathematical disposition and self-efficacy affect students’ mathematical literacy skills. This study employed a quantitative approach with a nonexperimental design and adopted a causal associative methodology. Data collection involved administering mathematical disposition and self-efficacy questionnaires, along with a mathematical literacy test, to 56 junior high school students. The analysis was performed using structural equation modeling-partial least squares (SEM-PLS) in the JASP 0.18.3.0 application. The results showed that mathematical disposition significantly enhances both self-efficacy and mathematical literacy skills. Conversely, while self-efficacy positively influenced mathematical literacy skills, the effect was not statistically significant.

Abstract

One learning approach that can be applied to learning mathematics is reciprocal teaching because it is efficient in helping students become independent learners and developing students' courage in expressing opinions. Many studies have discussed Reciprocal Teaching with mathematics learning outcomes in primary and secondary schools with different conclusions. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Reciprocal Teaching model on students' mathematics learning outcomes. This study used a meta-analysis, a statistical analysis method that synthesizes data from several studies to obtain stronger findings. The sample in this study were articles that met the inclusion criteria and obtained as many as 8 articles. Data were analyzed using JASP V-0.18 software. The results showed that the Reciprocal Teaching model affected students' mathematics learning outcomes, with an effect size of 1.07 and a high effect size category. However, this analysis did not include some related studies because they did not meet the inclusion criteria. Therefore, further research using a larger sample size and a wider variety of studies is needed to gain a more thorough understanding.
