Abstract

Language teaching systems (especially in Indonesia) are generally still dominative. Teachers still dominate teaching process, both regarding the communication pattern, material presentation, and evaluation system used. In fact, education experts, such as John Dewey and Paulo Freire, emphasize the importance of developing a humanistic teaching climate. In this teaching climate, teachers place students as human beings who prepare their future critically and creatively. Teachers’ domination means killing students' criticality and creativity. Humanization of language teaching can be represented in various aspects of teaching, including in the process of preparing teaching materials, processes, and evaluation.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a web-based GIS that can be used as a decision support system in managing the road network in East Aceh district. In this case, MySQL is used as a spatial database management system and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is used as the technology to visualize spatial data in web programming. Therefore, it is expected can make geo-database application that can be distributed widely to related user. Stages of development of the system used in this study refers to the waterfall model. The order of execution of the study is divided into five stages include: early stage research, web GIS design stage, the stage of data collection, web GIS development phase and implementation phase. Data used in this study include primary and secondary data. Primary data consists of spatial and attribute data of road network (lines) and bridges (points) taken through surveys with Global Positioning System (GPS). Secondary data used include base maps derived from maps of the Rupa Bumi Indonesia (RBI) 1:25.000 scale area of East Aceh Regency. The unit of analysis used was the Locational referencing system that is defining a road network using the “node” and “section”. The results of this study showed that implementation of the SVG generated by PHP is able to produce a superior display vector and dynamic so it is easy to analyze. These capabilities combined with MySQL capabilities in spatial analysis and queries on RDBMS database is able to produce applications that are capable of supporting the activities of decision-making in the management of roads and bridges.

Abstract

This research aims to develop and evaluate a geospatial application for groundwater resource management at Karanganyar Regency. The system development methodology from Whitten and Bentley (2007) was used in this research. To initiate the project, we discussed with the stakeholders from Karanganyar Regency which came from various related agencies followed by a focus group discussion (FGD) to analyse the system. Computational design and experiment were conducted to design the system prototype. Finally, we implement the system in the Regency. The result shows that the system is complex not only due to the managerial procedures but also the number of involved users (stakeholder) in the system. To address the emerged requirements from the FGD, we propose and develop a web-based GIS application with current open source technology and Google Map API which can be used for collaboration among stakeholders as well as for supporting the decision support purpose in the groundwater management. Currently, Air-tanah, the prototype of the application is available at http://geografi.ums.ac.id/air-tanah/. Both quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the system resulted good responses from the users.

Abstract

Depok City is a satellite city with a strategic location, thus triggering urbanization. Urbanization is one of the causes of the increase in population, in 2011 the population of Depok City reached 1,813,612 people, in 2021 it would become 2,056,335 people. The increase in population and limited urban land resulted in the conversion of non-built land use into built-up land. Built-up land absorbs and reflects heat, so the surface temperature is high. The development of built-up land can result in an increase in surface temperature and trigger the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon. This study aims to identify the distribution of land cover and surface temperature, analyze the ef ect of built-up land cover development on the increase in surface temperature, and analyze the relationship between the increase in surface temperature and the distribution of UHI in Depok City in 2011 and 2021. Landsat image data processing methods are used to obtain classifications. land cover using the Maximum Likelihood algorithm, a survey was conducted to validate the results, then the classification of surface temperature was obtained using the Mono-Window Brightness Temperature algorithm. UHI identification is obtained by using the threshold value equation. The ef ect of built-up land cover development on the increase in surface temperature was tested using simple linear regression. The results showed the development of the distribution of built-up land cover, in 2011 it had an area of 116.98 Km2 to 150.87 Km2 in 2021. The distribution of surface temperatures in Depok City in 2011 was dominated by class II surface temperatures with an area of 132.29 Km2, while in 2021 dominated by surface temperature class IV with an area of 126.03 Km2. The development of built-up land cover has an influence on the increase in surface temperature by 40.5%. The increase in surface temperature is directly proportional to the increase in the UHI threshold value, the distribution of UHI in Depok City in 2011 has an area of 52.09 Km2 to 65.63 Km2 2 in 2021.
