Abstract

This study aims to improve the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade students of UPT SD Negeri 003 Muara Uwai through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of two meetings. The subjects of the study were 15 fourth-grade students. Data collection techniques used observation, tests, and documentation. The instruments used were observation sheets of teacher and student activities and written critical thinking ability tests. The results of the study showed that the application of the PBL model was able to improve students' critical thinking skills. In the pre-action, the percentage of student completion was only 27% with an average score of 48.53. After the application of the PBL model in cycle I, the completion increased to 47% with an average score of 48.75. In cycle II, the completion increased further to 80% with an average score of 71.45. This increase indicates that the PBL model is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in the indicators of providing simple explanations, building basic skills and concluding, further explanations, and developing strategies and tactics.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) method on students' reading comprehension skills. This research used a pre-experimental design with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research subjects were all sixth-grade students at SDN 007 Bangkinang Kota, totaling 15 individuals. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests administered before (pretest) and after (posttest) the treatment. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, normality tests, and hypothesis testing with the Paired Sample T-test via SPSS version 26. The results showed that: (1) The average pretest score was 52.80, with the majority of students (80%) in the very low category; (2) The average posttest score increased to 74.93, with the majority of students (60%) in the moderate category; (3) The hypothesis test results showed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05) with t-count = -5.034, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, meaning that the implementation of the SQ3R method has a significant effect on improving the reading comprehension skills of sixth-grade students at SDN 007 Bangkinang Kota. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the SQ3R method is effective in improving students' reading comprehension skills. Teachers are recommended to implement this method as an alternative learning strategy, especially for materials requiring in-depth understanding of reading texts.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low listening skills of students in folklore lessons in Indonesian Language subject at grad VB of SDN 004 Salo. One solution to overcome this problem is by applying the Storytelling learning model assisted by Pop-Up Book media. The purpose of this study is to improve students’ listening skills in folklore learing in Indonesian Language subject. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings and four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research was carried out in August 2025. The subjects of this study were 14 fifth-grade students consisting of 8 boys dan 6 grils. Data collection techniques included observation, written tests, and documentation. Before the action was taken, the students’ listening skills in folklore were 29%. In cycle I meeting I, itu increased to 36%, and in cycle I metting II, it further increased to 43%. In cycle II meeting I, it rose to 57%, and in cycle II meeting II, it reached 86%. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the Storytelling learning model assisted by Pop-Up Book media can improve students’ listening skills in folklore in the Indonesian Language subject at SDN 004 Salo.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low social skills of students in the Social Science (IPAS) subject in Grade III at UPT SDN 010 Siabu. One of the solutions to overcome this problem was the application of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model. The purpose of this study was to determine the planning, implementation, and improvement of students’ social skills through the application of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in Grade III students of UPT SDN 010 Siabu in the 2024/2025 academic year, consisting of 21 students. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings, which included the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation and documentation using observation sheets of teacher and student activities as well as social skills observation sheets. The data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results showed that students’ social skills in the IPAS subject improved after the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model. In the first cycle, students’ social skills were in the “fair” category with an average score of 77, where 13 students achieved mastery with a classical completeness of 62%. In the second cycle, students’ social skills increased to the “good” category with an average score of 84, where 18 students achieved mastery with a classical completeness of 86%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model can improve students’ social skills in the IPAS subject for Grade III at UPT SDN 010 Siabu.

Abstract

Kemampuan sosial sangat penting dalam tumbuh kembang anak sekolah dasar. Namun, tidak semua siswa mampu berinteraksi secara optimal dengan lingkungan sosialnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas intervensi psikologis berbasis permainan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan sosial siswa sekolah dasar yang mengalami hambatan interaksi sosial. Subjek dalam intervensi ini adalah seorang siswa kelas III SD yang menunjukkan perilaku menarik diri, rasa malu berlebihan, serta rendahnya kepercayaan diri. Metode yang digunakan adalah intervensi psikologis melalui lima sesi kegiatan berbasis permainan dan ekspresi diri, seperti permainan sosial, terapi seni, bermain peran, dan penguatan positif. Hasil intervensi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan sosial, ditandai dengan keberanian siswa dalam berkomunikasi, meningkatnya partisipasi dalam kegiatan kelompok, serta berkurangnya perilaku menyendiri. Dengan demikian, intervensi psikologis berbasis permainan terbukti efektif dalam membantu meningkatkan kemampuan sosial dan rasa percaya diri siswa sekolah dasar. Pendekatan ini sesuai dengan karakteristik perkembangan anak yang belajar melalui pengalaman langsung dan aktivitas bermain.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low critical thinking skills of students in the subject of science in class IV of UPT SD Negeri 001 Bangkinang City. One solution to overcome this problem is to apply the inquiry learning model. The purpose of this study is to describe the improvement of students' critical thinking skills through the inquiry model in class IV of UPT SD Negeri 001 Bangkinang City. The method in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out for two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings and four stages, namely, planning, implementation, observation, reflection. The time of this research was carried out at the end of May and early June 2025. The subjects of this study were 10 class IV students consisting of 2 boys and 8 girls. The data collection instruments in this study were observation sheets, test sheets, documentation. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the critical thinking skills of class IV students of UPT SD Negeri 001 Bangkinang City through the pre-action test were 20%, cycle I meeting I was still the same, namely 20%. In cycle I meeting II it increased to 40%. Furthermore, in cycle II, meeting I became 60% and increased in meeting II to 80%. The conclusion is that using the inquiry model can improve students' critical thinking skills in the Science subject in class IV of UPT SD Negeri 001 Bangkinang City.

Abstract

The background of this research is the low reading comprehension skills of students in grade 5. This research aims to improve the reading comprehension skills of grade 5 students at SDN 005 Binuang. This research is a classroom action research (CAR), which is carried out in two cycles and each cycle consists of two meetings. The subjects in this study were all 15 grade 5 students. Data collection techniques were in the form of interviews, observations, documentation and tests. While the data analysis technique used was a combination of qualitative and quantitative. Based on the results of the research that has been carried out through 2 cycles, at the first meeting of cycle 1 there were 5 students who completed the reading comprehension with a percentage of 33.33% and at the second meeting it increased to 7 students with a percentage of 46.67%. While in the second meeting of cycle 1 there were 9 students who completed the reading comprehension with a percentage of 60% and there was an increase at the second meeting to 13 people with a percentage of 86,67%. Based on the results of this study, it shows that by applying the SSR learning technique it can improve the reading comprehension of grade 5 students at SDN 005 Binuang.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ early reading skills through the phonics method assisted by puzzle media in Grade I students of UPT SDN 009 Simpang Kubu in the 2024/2025 academic year. The type of research used in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study were the students, while the objects of the study were the phonics method assisted by puzzle media and students’ early reading skills. The research was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of two meetings. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation, tests, and documentation. The results showed an increase in the number of students who achieved the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP), as well as an improvement in the class average score and classical mastery. The percentage of classical mastery in Cycle I Meeting I was 61.90%, increased to 76.19% in Cycle I Meeting II, then increased significantly to 90.47% in Cycle II Meeting I, and reached 95.23% in Cycle II Meeting II. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the phonics method assisted by puzzle media can effectively improve the early reading skills of Grade I students at UPT SDN 009 Simpang Kubu.

Abstract

Narrative writing is a core component of Indonesian language learning in elementary schools; however, many students experience difficulties in organizing ideas, maintaining coherence, and developing creative storylines. Although digital scaffolding has been widely discussed, empirical evidence on AI-assisted scaffolding in elementary first-language (L1) writing contexts remains limited. This study examined the effect of using Generative AI as digital scaffolding on students’ textual quality and narrative writing creativity. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was employed involving 58 upper-grade elementary students (experimental = 29; control = 29). The experimental group received AI-assisted scaffolding across planning, drafting, and revising stages, while the control group received conventional teacher-led scaffolding. Data were collected through narrative writing tasks scored using validated analytic rubrics. Independent samples t-tests and ANCOVA (controlling for pretest scores) revealed that the experimental group achieved significantly higher posttest scores in textual quality (M = 82.41, SD = 6.32) compared to the control group (M = 73.18, SD = 7.05), p < .001, with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.36). Similar significant differences were found in creativity scores (p < .001, d = 1.21). Improvements were most evident in coherence, elaboration, and narrative resolution development. The findings suggest that Generative AI, when used as guided digital scaffolding under teacher supervision, can effectively enhance both structural quality and creative expression in elementary narrative writing. This study contributes empirical evidence to the growing field of AI-assisted writing pedagogy in primary education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of a psychological intervention program in addressing withdrawn behavior and learning difficulties among elementary school students. The subjects of this study were two third-grade elementary school students who exhibited social and academic problems, including social withdrawal and disruptive behavior accompanied by learning difficulties. This research employed a qualitative case study approach using observation, interviews, and documentation. The psychological intervention program consisted of individual counseling, self-confidence training, social skills training, academic support, self-control exercises, and collaboration with teachers and parents. The evaluation results indicated positive changes in both subjects, as evidenced by increased confidence in social interactions, reduced disruptive behavior in the classroom, and improved participation in learning activities. Therefore, psychological intervention programs can be considered an effective strategy to help overcome behavioral problems and learning difficulties in elementary school students.
