Abstract

Uncontrolled population growth is a significant challenge for societies and governments, particularly in the healthcare sector. Indonesia as the world's fourth most populous country, faces this issue with a Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of 2.45, falling short of the intended target of 2.1 for achieving balanced population growth. Furthermore, Central Java Province, one of the most populous regions, records a TFR of 2.27, which is also below the target. It's crucial to note that even a slight decrease in TFR in a populous province can have a significant impact on the national TFR. This research investigates the determinants of fertility preference among women aged 15-49 in Central Java Province, using 2022 Family Life Survey data from the National Population and Family Planning Board 2022. The results of bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test (α=5%) indicate that fertility desires had a significant association with age at first marriage, education, occupation, and health insurance participation, but not related to contraceptive use. Multiple logistic regression (α=5%) reveals that women of reproductive age who married at 21 or older (AOR=0.791; 95% CI:0.786; 0.796) and employed women (AOR=0.798; 95% CI:0.793;0.803) were less likely to desire more than two children. On the other hand, women with health insurance subscriptions were more likely to desire more than two children (AOR=1.129; 95% CI:1.121;1.137). These findings emphasize that promoting women's education and employment, enhancing adolescent reproductive health programs, and aligning healthcare and family planning policies are essential strategies to reshape fertility preferences among women of reproductive age in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

Street children are children under the age of 18 who spend most of their time living on the streets or other public places. The lack of supervision and education of street children, especially at the age of teenagers, makes street children have a high risk of premarital sex. Premarital sex is a major risk factor for unwanted pregnancies and the transmission of sexually transmitted infections. This study aims to determine how the behavior of street children in the city of Semarang in avoiding the impact of premarital sex behavior. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach with the technique of taking research subjects using a questionnaire. The research subjects were 2 street children who were female and had had premarital sex. Triangulation research subjects were 2 people who were parents and caregivers of the research subjects. The research data was taken by in-depth interview technique. The results showed that the behavior of Unwanted Pregancies and STI prevention of research subjects was still poor. Both study subjects had experienced unwanted pregnancies. They never seek information about the impact of premarital sex and how to prevent it. They also never had a health professional consultation with health workers. To prevent contracting STIs, they are only being careful in choosing sex partner, choosing to be loyal to their boyfriend, or using condoms. To prevent pregnancy they use condoms or, preferably, interrupted intercourse. Unfortunately, these prevention technique was not carried out properly, causing the research subjects to experience unwanted pregnancies.

Abstract

Stigma has become one of the aspects closely associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), causing adverse effects for those affected. The primary goal of this scoping review is to identify various intervention models aimed at reducing HIV-related stigma. This review follows the PRISMA 2015 guidelines and utilizes sources from three online journal databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. Search criteria include articles published in the last five years, from 2018 to 2023. Out of the initially retrieved 1,084 articles, 9 articles meeting inclusion criteria were selected for a more in-depth review. Most interventions typically employ a mix of strategies, incorporating diverse degrees of social-ecological involvement. Interventions employing dual strategies and extended durations with multiple sessions have the potential to more effectively reduce stigma. Supporting HIV-safe spaces and encouraging community involvement to understand the link between HIV stigma and the spread of HIV/AIDS in their surroundings can effectively reduce HIV stigma. Overall, most studies included in this review indicate fairly satisfactory outcomes. However, when implementing interventions, it remains crucial to tailor them to the specific location, considering that stigma is a social construct. The development of instruments to measure intervention effectiveness needs to be pursued to comprehensively identify significant intervention impacts.

Abstract

Dating has become a trend in today's youth. Psychological conditions are still unstable and are one of the triggers for violence among adolescents, and in general, female adolescents become victims. However, the female adolescents maintained the relationship. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a phenomenological study of dating violence among female adolescents. This research is included in the type of qualitative research. Data were obtained from five key informants and five triangular informants who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected using 14 questions items submitted using the In-depth Interview technique. The interview results were transcribed using computer aided qualitative data analysis software. Based on the results of the interviews, dating is a form of self-actualization to get love and to exist among adolescents. They hope the current partner can become a life partner when they have a family. This is their reason for tolerating physical, psychological, or sexual violence perpetrated by their partner. So, female adolescents are aware that they experience violence. However, they could not avoid it because they hoped their current partner would become a life partner These results confirm the urgency for adolesence dating violence (ADV) program implementation.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Although it has proven to be helpful, the attendance of pregnant mothers in Antenatal Classes (AC) was still low, so an ineffective breakthrough application of AC was needed according to the mother's wishes and interests. Objective: The study aimed to compare various models of practical AC for pregnant mothers to improve behavior prevention of high-risk pregnancies.Method: This study is quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group and pre-posttest design. The population of all pregnant mothers in Semarang City, with 181 samples, was divided into three groups (Extended, Virtual and Conventional). Measurements were carried out four times to see the mean score increasing, and the results of the last measurement were analyzed using the One Way ANOVA test to compare the effectiveness of these three groups. Results: There was an increase in the mean value of all dimensions of the behavior of high-risk prevention based on its measurement stages. The extended model has the highest improvement, followed by the Virtual model. Statistically, there was a better chance in all behavioral dimensions after the intervention. There were differences in all dimensions of maternal behavior between the extended and the conventional model. In contrast, only knowledge and practice differed in the virtual model but not in attitudes, beliefs, and intentions. Conclusion: Extended and virtual models of AC effectively improved high-risk prevention behaviors better than conventional models. Although the increase was not as high as the extended model, the virtual model has an excellent opportunity to be developed as a strategy to overcome time constraints for mothers and health providers.
