Abstract

This current study investigates how English language teachers in Indonesian higher educational institutions define and conceptualize intercultural literacy and practice it in their classrooms. Eight ELT practitioners were interviewed through narrative inquiry, and the data was analyzed using thematic analysis to explore their lived conceptualizations. The findings suggest three major themes on intercultural literacy, including conceptualization of intercultural literacy, implementation in professional practice, challenges in fostering intercultural understanding, and strategies to overcome these challenges. Teachers defined intercultural literacy as encompassing cultural understanding, adaptability, comparative analysis, and professional knowledge. They integrated it into their teaching through curriculum design, student-centered methods, and digital tools. This was done by weaving these into the curriculum design and retraining pedagogy with student-centric methods and other digital tools. However, the participants mentioned that they faced some obstacles, including institutional barriers, limited funding, and the difficulties of switching from the traditional to the newest teaching method. These issues were mitigated by professional development, collaboration, and inclusive instructional materials. The current research finding indicates the importance of comprehensive professional development and institutional support for teachers in developing intercultural competence in their students. These findings contribute to intercultural literacy in Indonesia and practical recommendations for improving it within Indonesian higher education. The finding highlights the how to prepare students for a globalized world through intercultural literacy and educator support.

Abstract

Stunting merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan yang sedang mendapatkan perhatian dari Pemerintah Indonesia. Prevalensi stunting di Indonesia pada tahun 2017 adalah 29,6% dan angka tersebut masih diatas ambang batas yang ditetapkan oleh WHO. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman tentang stunting melalui bimbingan kelompok dengan metode mind mapping pada pasangan usia subur sehingga dapat berkontribusi pada penurunan prevalensi stunting. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan kuantitatif bentuk pre-eksperimental tipe one group pretest-posttest design. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 10 pasangan usia subur diambil secara purposive dari penduduk desa rentan Stunting di Kabupaten Ngawi dikenai pretest dan posttest dengan menggunakan angket tertutup. Data yang berhasil dikumpulkan dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji wilcoxon. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman pasangan usia subur tentang stunting pada hasil pretest berbeda secara signifikan dengan hasil posttestnya. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa mind mapping dalam seting bimbingan kelompok dapat digunakan sebagai upaya preventif prevalensi stunting.AbstractStunting is one of the health problems that is getting attention from the Government of Indonesia. In 2017, the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia was 29.6% which still exceeds the provisions set by WHO. This study aims to improve understanding of stunting through group guidance with mind mapping methods in fertile age couples so that it can contribute to reducing the prevalence of stunting. This research is a quantitative pre-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest design. The study subjects consisted of 10 couples of fertile age who were taken purposively from Stunting vulnerable villagers in Ngawi District. They are subjected to pretest and posttest using a questionnaire. Data collected was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the data analysis showed that the understanding of fertile age couples about stunting before and after group guidance services using mind mapping methods differed significantly. Thus it can be concluded that group guidance with mind mapping methods can be used as an effort to prevent stunting prevalence.

Abstract

Social competence is a life skill that prospective teacher students must possess. Unfortunately, many prospective teacher students have low social competence. This study aims to test the social competence model of prospective teacher students in terms of authoritative parenting patterns and internal locus of control mediated by emotional regulation. The research participants were students of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education recruited using purposive sampling techniques (n = 350). The research instruments consisted of the Social Competence in High Education Questionnaire (α=0.906), Parenting Style Dimension Questionnaire (α=0.884), Internal Locus of Control scale (α=0.933), and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (α=0.874). All research instruments have been validated using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The research data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The study results showed that empirical data supported the proposed research model. The implications of this study require Universities to provide students with certain strategies to develop social competence, especially in the Faculty of Education.

Abstract

Integrating both local and target cultures in English Language Teaching Materials and emphasizes the need for balance to promote cultural diversity and understanding become an important thing in today’s era. During teaching practice activities at SMAN 17 Tebo, the researcher found that the cultural materials in the English Teaching Materials used are not balanced between the source culture, target culture, and international culture. This has an impact on cross-cultural understanding and less than optimal cultural awareness among students. The purpose of this research is to explore the representation of cultural persons in government textbook and teacher-made modules. This research uses qualitative content analysis as a research design. This research involved a sample of government-approved English language textbooks entitled “Bahasa Inggris Work in Progress” and a teacher-made module at SMAN 11 Tebo. The results show that from the theme of great athletes in chapter one of the Bahasa Inggris Work In Progress textbook and teacher-made module, it can be seen that the dominant sports branch comes from international culture. While the cultural persons represented as athletes are dominated by the source culture. It is recommended that future development of English language teaching (ELT) materials, both in government textbooks like Bahasa Inggris Work in Progress and teacher-made modules, should strive for a more balanced representation of source culture, target culture, and international culture for fostering intercultural competence among Indonesian students.

Abstract

Circadian rhythm sleep disorder (CRSD) is a problem that affects people from waking to sleep. There are many ways to reduce the intensity of CRSD; one of them is by taking diazepam. However, the side effects of Diazepam are much more dangerous. Therefore, it is important to use herbal medicines as traditional medicines to maintain health so that they are safe for consumption, one of which is using turmeric (Crocus sativus). This research was conducted at the Pharmacy Laboratory, Universitas Perintis Indonesia. The goal of this study was to compare the average heart rate of rats treated with saffron and diazepam for sleep disorders. Turmeric extract and diazepam were given orally at a dose of 50 mg/KgBB and diazepam at a dose of 0.75 mg/KgBB, and 15 rats were used. Measurement of rats heart rate was carried out on the 1st, 7th, and 14th days. The results of the study concluded that the treatment of experimental animals by presenting saffron and diazepam extracts was able to reduce the average heart rate value in each rats, with data analysis showing that there was a significant difference in the heart rate of each with a value of P = 0.015 (P < 0.05). So it can be said that the use of saffron extract is effective in overcoming CRSD.

Abstract

Malnutrition in adolescents can slow growth, delay puberty in adolescents. Good balanced nutritional knowledge, attitudes and behaviors can prevent nutritional problems that have an impact on adulthood. One of the methods used to increase knowledge is counseling on balanced nutrition demonstrations according to the contents of my plate. This study aims to determine the influence of balanced nutrition demonstration counseling on the knowledge and attitudes of balanced nutrition behavior of adolescents in coastal and terrestrial areas. The research design uses the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design approach. The number of samples was 104 from the Coast and Mainland, selected by simple random sampling. Analysis of Wilcoxon test data. Data were collected using questionnaires of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors before and after the demonstration of balanced nutrition. The results of the statistical test showed that there was a significant influence of demonstration on knowledge and behavior on balanced nutrition in Coastal and Inland Areas (P<0.01 and P<0.01). However, there was no effect of demonstration on balanced nutrition attitudes in Coastal and Inland Areas (P>0.154 and P>0.17). It can be concluded that there is an influence of demonstration on knowledge and behavior on balanced nutrition and no influence of demonstration on the attitude of balanced nutrition. Kurang gizi pada remaja dapat memperlambat pertumbuhan, menunda pubertas pada remaja. Pengetahuan, sikap dan perilaku gizi seimbang yang baik dapat mencegah masalah gizi yang berdampak pada masa dewasa. Salah satu metode yang digunakan untuk peningkatan pengetahuan dengan penyuluhan demonstrasi gizi seimbang sesuai isi piringku. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penyuluhan demonstrasi gizi seimbang terhadap pengetahuan, sikap perilaku gizi seimbang remaja wilayah Pesisir dan Daratan. Desain penelitian menggunakan pendekatan One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Jumlah sampel 104 dari Pesisir dan Daratan, dipilih secara simple random sampling. Analisis data uji Wilcoxon. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner pengetahuan, sikap, perilaku sebelum dan sesudah demonstrasi gizi seimbang. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan ada pengaruh signifikan demonstarsi terhadap pengetahuan dan perilaku terhadap gizi seimbang Wilayah Pesisir dan Daratan (P<0.01 dan P<0.01). Namun, tidak ada pengaruh demonstrasi terhadap sikap gizi seimbang Wilayah Pesisir dan Daratan (P>0.154 dan P>0.17). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh demonstrasi terhadap pengetahuan dan perilaku terhadap gizi seimbang dan tidak ada pengaruh demonstrasi terhadap sikap Gizi Seimbang.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has brought about significant changes in education, particularly in elementary school settings. Integrating AI programs has led to substantial modifications, offering valuable support to educators in developing learning media. This study employed qualitative research to investigate elementary school teachers' viewpoints on utilizing AI for developing learning media, its integration into teaching activities, and the specific AI types utilized. The findings emphasized the crucial role of AI in education, highlighting the importance of careful AI deployment aligned with specific instructional needs and educational goals. Educators appreciated the significant assistance provided by AI in accessing a wide range of information and reference materials essential for creating engaging learning content. Additionally, participants noted the customized nature of their AI usage, tailored to their teaching requirements and desired educational outcomes. The research emphasized teachers' reliance on AI for information access and content development and underscored its vital role in creating a safe and enriching educational environment for educators and students.

Abstract

Kanker payudara merupakan masalah kesehatan utama baik di dunia maupun di Indonesia karena tingginya angka kejadian yang di yakini sangat berkaitan dengan beberapa faktor risiko yang mempengaruhinya. Penyuluhan ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis determinan kanker payudara pada wanita. Penyuluhan ini dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan wanita usia subur yang rawan tekena kanker payudara. Dimana selain melakukan penyuluhan narasumber juga melakukan wawancara mendalam tehadap peserta penyuluhan yang bertujuan mengetahui factor determinan terjadinya kanker payudara. . Hasil penyulihan di peroleh data Usia menarche merupakan faktor yang paling dominan berhubungan dengan kejadian kanker payudara pada wanita. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara yang diperoleh saat penyuluhan dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa faktor risiko terbesar dari kanker payudara adalah faktor hormonal.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis iklim belajar dalam mendukung pembelajaran berdiferensiasi di kelas V SDN 225 Palembang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data, observasi, wawancara, angket dan dokumentasi.  Informan kunci penelitian ini adalah Wali kelas V dan peserta didik kelas V SDN 225 Palembang. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dikaji dan dipresentasikan secara deskriptif kemudian dianalisis untuk meperoleh data yang akurat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa iklim belajar di SDN 225 Palembang, yang meliputi suasana pembelajaran di kelas, hubungan antar peserta didik, aktivitas belajar mengajar, kondisi fisik ruang kelas, dan kedisiplinan peserta didik, memberikan kontribusi yang positif dalam mendukung pembelajaran berdiferensiasi. Hal ini tercermin dari hubungan yang baik antara guru dan peserta didik, ruang kelas yang memadai, adanya perhatian terhadap kebutuhan belajar masing – masing peserta didik. Namun demikian, guru juga menghadapi kendala, terutama dalam menyesuaikan pembelajaran dengan gaya belajar masing – masing pesrta didik, mengingat jumalah peserta didik yang cukup banyak. Dengan demikian, meskipun iklim belajar sekolah mendukung, tetap diperlukan strategi yang tepat agar pembelajaran berdiferensiasi dapat berjalan dengan optimal.
