Abstract

Pregnant women at Mijen II Community Health Center, Demak Regency did not regularly attend antenatal care (ANC); although, they knew that ANC visits during pregnancy are important. Coverage of ANC visits by pregnant women to health workers is based on the standards of Health Ministry which have been set at a minimum of 6 times. The aim of the research was to determine the relationship between pregnant women's knowledge and attitudes about ANC and ANC visits. The type of research used was quantitative with cross-sectional design. The samples of this study were 39 respondents selected by using purposive sampling technique. Chi Square test was used to analyze the research data. The results of data analysis showed that there was no relationship between knowledge of pregnant women (p-value 0.176) and attitudes of pregnant women (p-value 0.060) with ANC visits. The results of survey with interviews to pregnant women showed that 80% of pregnant women did not do ANC regularly for reasons of being lazy, working, having no complaints, and having a poor economy. Health workers, especially midwives, were expected to further increase the screening of pregnant women, so they can achieve the target of 100% ANC visits by health workers. The screening should not only be done by waiting for mothers’ visit at community health center or integrated service post but by making home visits.

Abstract

Many Indonesian learners continue to struggle with learning English as a foreign language (EFL) and frequently produce errors in grammatical aspects when speaking English spontaneously. This may be influenced by several factors. Hence, this research reports on a study aimed at investigating and examining the errors produced by Indonesian learners in their oral presentations and the sources of the errors. In conducting this study, the error analysis procedures and a descriptive qualitative study were used. The data were collected from sixteen college students’ oral presentations of the non-English department. To gather the data, the students’ presentations were video-typed and the utterances were transcribed. In analysing the data, a theory of error classification proposed by Dulay et al. (1982) namely a surface strategy taxonomy was employed. The findings reveal that four types of errors based on the surface strategy taxonomy namely omission, addition, misformation, and misordering errors are found in the students’ productions in their oral presentation. The frequent errors made by the learners are omission, followed by misformation, addition, and misordering. Meanwhile, two major causes driving learners to make numerous mistakes are intra-lingual and inter-lingual interference. However, from both factors, the largest cause is intra-lingual interference. Thus, the students’ L1 interference affects their mastery of the target language. Finally, this study is expected to contribute to the improvement of EFL teaching and learning.

Abstract

High consumption of coal as a source of electrical energy in Indonesia has resulted in piles of waste from coal burning, namely fly ash, which can damage the environment and harm health. Fly ash contains main oxides, namely silica (SiO2) and alumina (Al2O3), whose components are similar to zeolite, so they can be synthesized into zeolite-like material (ZLM) which can be used as an adsorbent for heavy metal Ni2+. Therefore, this research discussed the characterization of manganese-oxide-coated-zeolite (MOCZ) from fly ash waste as a heavy metal adsorbent. The research procedure consisted of preparation, purification, and activation stage of fly ash to obtain fly ash that is free from impurities, the stage of making sodium silicate and sodium aluminate, and zeolite synthesis. The resulting zeolite was then coated with manganese oxide to expand the surface area of the zeolite and increase the ability of zeolite to adsorb heavy metal Ni2+. The research results showed that fly ash waste that was coated with manganese oxide can adsorb heavy metal Ni2+. The adsorption of the Ni2+ metal ion solution by zeolite with MOCZ modification is in line with the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm.

Abstract

Background: Metformin might be a first therapy for Type 2 diabetes; however, it had a lot of variation in glycemic response. Objective: to analyze the frequency of minor alleles of the OCT1 coding gene (SLC22A1 rs628031) and MATE1 coding gene (SLC47A1 rs2289669) as well as the genotypic variation of the interaction of these two genetic polymorphisms in healthy subjects of Indonesia. Material and Methods: Through inclusion criteria, the study employed an observational descriptive technique with 70 Indonesian Javanese healthy individuals. Subject health information was obtained from the complete blood routine test, serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase/ serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (SGOT/SGPT), complete urine test, and serum creatinine tests. All data were compared to the normal range. Results: The finding shows that the minor allele frequency on SLC22A1 rs628031 A>G and SLC47A1 rs2289669 G>A respectively at 53% and 36%. There are four SLC22A1 rs628031 and SLC47A1 rs2289669 genetic polymorphism interactions; 16 Wt/Wt (16.75%), 24 Wt/M (25%), 32 M/Wt (33.3%) and 24 M/M (25%). The discovery demonstrates that such minor allele frequencies of the SLC22A1 rs628031 OCT1 and SLC47A1 rs2289669 MATE1 genes in healthy Indonesian subjects are relatively high. The SLC22A1 rs628031 A>G and SLC47A1 rs2289669 G>A respectively at 53% and 36%, almost the same as the minor allele frequencies found in several other Asian countries eg. India, Japan, and China. Conclusions: OCT1 coding genes (SLC22A1 rs628031 A>G) were found more dominant than MATE1 coding genes (SLC47A1 rs2289669 G>A) and both alleles are relatively high in healthy subjects of Indonesia, which can be used as information to explore the consequences of different genes' interactions on the Indonesian pharmacokinetic properties, and the efficacy variations of metformin in Type2 DM patients.
