Abstract

Literacy culture is not only demonstrated through reading activities at school or in certain formal programs but also through reading habits within families and communities, which occur naturally without being perceived as school assignments. Therefore, schools need to provide support for students’ motivation and interest in reading so that literacy culture can develop sustainably. This study aims to examine: (1) access to information resources, (2) reading habits, (3) the quality of reading materials, and (4) students’ motivation and interest in reading. The research design employed a descriptive approach by combining quantitative data from questionnaires with narrative analysis. The subjects of this study were 239 students of MTs Miftahul Huda, Jambu Village, Plemahan District, Kediri Regency, selected through a total sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire distributed via Google Form, while data analysis was carried out through reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that access to information resources is relatively adequate in terms of libraries and reading materials, although digital literacy still needs strengthening. Reading habits are categorized as moderately active to active, the quality of reading materials is rated as good, and students’ motivation and interest in reading are considered high. This study concludes that strengthening digital literacy, providing contextual reading materials, and implementing collective appreciation strategies are necessary to develop a more balanced and sustainable literacy culture.

Abstract

The metaverse, an immersive virtual environment that blends augmented and virtual reality, is rapidly gaining popularity as a space for social interaction and digital identity formation. As users engage in these virtual spaces, language plays a critical role in shaping interactions, constructing identities, and influencing perceptions of reality. This study explores how language is used in the metaverse to facilitate social interactions, contribute to the formation of virtual identities, and impact users’ construction of reality in these immersive environments. The primary objective of this research is to examine how language functions in the metaverse, focusing on the role of communication in virtual spaces for socializing, self-representation, and the construction of a shared virtual reality. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study combines qualitative interviews with metaverse users and quantitative analysis of language use in virtual environments. The results indicate that language in the metaverse plays a fundamental role in building social connections, creating and negotiating identities, and constructing a sense of reality in the virtual world. Users reported that the language used in the metaverse helps them define their virtual selves, interact with others, and navigate the complexities of the virtual space. This study concludes that language is not only a tool for communication but also a powerful medium for shaping both virtual identities and perceptions of reality in immersive environments.

Abstract

Pre-service teachers’ (PSTs) reflective teaching practice has been seen as early professional growth. However, it has not delved yet into how Pattani PSTs as international students construct their professional identity through self-reflection. The study aims to investigate the Pattani PSTs constructing their professional identity through self-reflection, the role of self-reflection in shaping their professional identity, and the process of self-reflection impacting their identity as future teachers during the teaching practice program in Indonesia. This qualitative case study involved three PSTs from Pattani in Southern Thailand as research participants. The data were garnered from reflective journals, dialogic reflection, and teaching practice artefacts. The data from self-reflections were cross-checked and validated using interviews with three teacher mentors and one teacher educator, as well as their lesson plans. Data from reflective journals and interviews were analyzed thematically, while dialogic reflections were examined using appraisal analysis. The findings revealed three emerging themes: (1) retrospection and collaboration; (2) inner, outer, and interactive contemplations; and (3) envisioning teacher as a future career. The study suggests that for international PSTs, targeted pre-practicum training in intercultural communicative competence and local pedagogical knowledge is crucial to facilitate positive self-reflection and professional identity construction.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is an escalating global health issue, with diet playing a critical role in its management by limiting salt and saturated fat intake while increasing the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and fiber. However, low patient compliance often leads to unstable blood pressure and increases the risk of complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support, social support, and diet adherence among hypertensive patients. Methods: This study employed a descriptive survey approach with a cross-sectional research design, conducted among hypertensive patients at the Margorejo Pati Health Center. A total of 40 participants were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a Family Support Questionnaire, a Social Support Questionnaire, and a Hypertension Diet Adherence Questionnaire. The Spearman Rank Correlation test was used to determine the relationship between the variables. Results: The bivariate analysis revealed a strong correlation between family support and diet adherence among hypertensive patients, with a p-value of 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05) and a correlation strength of r = 0.979, indicating a very strong and positive relationship. Additionally, social support was significantly associated with diet adherence, with a p-value of 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05) and a correlation strength of r = 0.912, demonstrating a very strong positive correlation. Conclusions: The findings indicate that both family and social support are strongly and positively correlated with the dietary adherence of hypertensive patients. Based on these findings, it is recommended to enhance family involvement in patient dietary management.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify early childhood teachers' perceptions of STEAM-based learning. This qualitative research will be analyzed descriptively, and semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions will be conducted with four early childhood education (ECE) teachers in Banda Aceh. The findings show that ECE teachers' perceptions of STEAM-based learning techniques have a high potential to be implemented in Banda Aceh City ECEs, as the respondents have used aspects of STEAM in their learning. Teachers' lack of knowledge of STEAM-based learning approaches and procurement of materials and funds to fulfil STEAM learning needs are barriers to integrating STEAM in ECE institutions in Banda Aceh. More STEAM socialization and STEAM learning implementation training is needed for ECE teachers in Aceh in general.
