Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is an opportunistic pathogenic bacteria on the surface of the skin that causes impetigo. Treatment therapy for impetigo can be done by administering natural medication from papaya seeds (Carica papaya L). This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus papaya seed extract based on the different types of extract solvents used. This research is true experimental research with a posttest only control design research form. The research method used was the disk diffusion method with three treatments of papaya seed extract, namely 96% ethanol extract, ethyl acetate and n-hexane, positive control using chloramphenicol and negative control using 96% ethanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexane. The research results showed that each papaya seed extract treatment was able to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus with an inhibition zone of 96% ethanol extract of 18.09 mm, ethyl acetate extract of 7.93 mm, n-hexane extract of 0.36 mm. The One Way Anova test showed a value of ρα(0.05) so that there was a significant difference in the diameter of the inhibition zone in each extract treatment. The Tukey test showed that there were significant differences in the inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (ρα(0.05)) in almost all treatments. The conclusion of this research is that there is a difference in the antibacterial activity of 96% ethanol extract, ethyl acetate extract and n-hexane extract of papaya seeds on the growth of Sthaphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

A simple spectrophotometric method was used to determine the phosphate content in the water sampels. The method is based on the formation of molybdenum blue complex from the reaction of orthophosphate and ammonium molybdate followed by reduction with ascorbic acid in the aqueous sulfuric acid medium. The color intensity of the molybdenum blue complex is proportionally to the phosphate content in the solution. The system obeys Lamber-Beer’s Law at the 890 nm in the concentration range of 0.1-1 mg P/L and the linier calibration graph was obtained with the slope, 0.6334, intercept, 0.0074 and correlation coefficient of 0.9988. This official method was also used for the quantitative analysis of phosphate in the water samples and the satisfactory result was obtained. The range of phosphate concentration in the water samples are 0.033 – 2.943 mg P/L.

Abstract

AbstractFinal Waste Disposal Area at Suwung, Denpasar is one of the final waste disposal area that uses an open dumping system for the waste management techniques. These waste management techniques cause the lack of the groundwater quality. On the other hand, this groundwater is still being used as a main water source by the residents around the final waste disposal area. The aim of the study was to determine of the lead concentration in the well water at the Suwung Waste Disposal Area. This research uses descriptive method with observational approach while the analysis of lead was conducted by using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Based on the results, it is proved that there is 1 sample contains of the lead concentration more than maximum allowable of lead according to the Minister of Health of Indonesia No. 416/MENKES/PER/IX/1990. The excess of lead concentration in the water samples may influenced by the distance of the dug wells from waste disposal area which does not meet the requirements, so the pollution occur easily.Keywords: Final waste disposal area, lead determination, atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS)

Abstract

Propionibacterium acnes merupakan salah satu bakteri yang menyebabkan terjadinya jerawat. Salah satu cara untuk mengatasi jerawat yaitu dengan memanfaatkan buah jeruk lemon. Beberapa penelitian terdahulu melaporkan bahwa jeruk lemon memiliki kandungan bahan aktif, antara lain karotenoid dan flavonoid  yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan daya hambat berbagai konsentrasi perasan jeruk lemon terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Propionibacterium acnes. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimen murni dengan rancangan penelitian Posttest Only Control Design menggunakan metode difusi cakram Kirby Bauer dengan enam konsentrasi perasan buah jeruk lemon  yaitu 5, 12,5, 25, 50, 75, dan 100%. Kontrol kerja yang digunakan adalah kloramfenikol 30µg dan kontrol negatifnya adalah akuades steril. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perasan buah jeruk lemon mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Propionibacterium acnes dengan rerata zona hambat berturut-turut yaitu sebesar 7,15; 9,20; 11,25; 12,50; 14,10 dan 16,90 mm dan termasuk ke dalam kategori zona hambat sedang dan kuat. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang diperoleh, dapat disimpulkan bahwa masing-masing konsentrasi perasan jeruk lemon memiliki kemampuan yang berbeda-beda terhadap pertumbuhan Propionibacterium acnes.

Abstract

Manfaat Methyl eugenol sebagai bahan kimia yang digunakan untuk atraktan, khususnya bagi lalat buah menarik untuk dikembangkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan lalat yang masuk perangkap dengan diberi umpan yang berbeda, antara lain Methyl eugenol, Methyl pyrazine, jeroan ikan, dan jeroan ayam. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis Quasi eksperimental yang dilakukan dalam 4 tahap penelitian yakni penempatan fly trap, pengecekan tahap I, pengecekan tahap II, dan pengambilan data akhir. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada dua tempat yang berbeda yakni pasar tradisional dan pasar ikan. Setiap umpan diletakkan pada 5 perangkap lalat atau dalam sehari dipasang 40 unit di kedua pasar. Data berupa jumlah lalat yang terperangkap dengan berbagai variasi umpan pada penelitian ini dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan menggunakan Uji Anova, yang dilanjutkan dengan Test Homogeneity of Variance untuk mengetahui homogenitas data dan Pos Hoc Test menggunakan Metode Tukey untuk mengetahui signifikansi perbedaan efektivitas jenis umpan yang digunakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan jenis lalat yang terperangkap. Lalat yang paling banyak terperangkap di pasar ikan adalah jenis lalat rumah, sedangkan di pasar tradisional lebih banyak diperoleh jenis lalat buah. Berdasarkan jenis umpan yang digunakan, diketahui bahwa lalat rumah lebih menyukai umpan jeroan ayam, sedangkan lalat buah lebih tertarik terhadap umpan Methyl eugenol.

Abstract

Onikomikosis merupakan infeksi pada kuku yang disebabkan oleh jamur dermatofita, non-dermatofita, dan yeast. Infeksi ditandai dengan perubahan warna dan penebalan lempeng kuku yang dapat bersifat kronis sehingga mengakibatkan kerusakan kuku. Jamur penyebab onikomikosis lebih mudah berkembang biak pada lingkungan yang kotor, lembab dan basah, sehingga orang yang bekerja pada lingkungan tersebut lebih beresiko mengalami onikomikosis. Kondisi pasar tradisional yang kotor, lembab dan basah merupakan salah satu lingkungan yang beresiko terhadap pertumbuhan dan perkembangbiakan jamur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jamur penyebab onikomikosis pada kuku tangan pedagang daging ayam di kawasan Desa Batubulan. Sampel dalam penelitian ini diambil dari 30 orang pedagang daging ayam yang berasal dari lokasi 3 pasar tradisional di kawasan Desa Batubulan, Gianyar, Bali. Data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari wawancara, observasi serta pemeriksaan laboratorium untuk mengidentifikasi jenis jamur patogen penyebab onikomikosis. Identifikasi dilakukan dengan pemeriksaan kultur pada media Saboraoud Dextrosa Agar (SDA). Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh, diketahui bahwa seluruh media sampel (30) ditumbuhi oleh koloni jamur. Pemeriksaan dilanjutkan dengan pemeriksaan mikroskopis untuk mengidentifikasi koloni jamur yang tumbuh dengan pewarnaan Lactophenol Cotton Blue. Hasil identifikasi menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 18 jamur Aspergilus sp.  yang termasuk ke dalam golongan non-dermatofita, 10 jamur Trichophyton sp. yang termasuk dalam golongan dermatofita dan 10 jamur golongan yeast.  Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diketahui bahwa jamur golongan non-dermatofita merupakan golongan jamur yang paling banyak ditemukan pada penelitian ini.

Abstract

Cemcem atau Spondias pinnata (L.f) Kurz merupakan obat tradisional yang sering digunakan oleh masyarakat Bali. Beberapa penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun Cemcem memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Periodontitis merupakan penyakit gigi dan mulut yang banyak diderita masyarakat Indonesia. Salah satu penyebab periodontitis adalah P. gingivalis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeteksi kandungan senyawa bioaktif dan daya hambat ekstrak etanol daun Cemcem terhadap pertumbuhan P. gingivalis. Ekstraksi daun Cemcem dilakukan dengan teknik maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Untuk mendeteksi kandungan senyawa bioaktif dilakukan uji fitokimia terhadap senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, terpenoid, steroid, dan tanin. Uji daya hambat ekstrak etanol daun Cemcem dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi cakram dengan kontrol positif yaitu khlorheksidin 2%, kontrol negatif yaitu etanol, serta dua konsentrasi ekstrak yaitu 60% dan 80%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun Cemcem mengandung senyawa bioaktif yaitu alkaloid, flavonoid, steroid, dan tannin. Zona hambat yang terbentuk memiliki perbedaan bermakna antara ketiga perlakuan dan masuk dalam kategori kuat. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ekstrak etanol daun Cemcem berpotensi sebagai obat herbal untuk periodontitis.

Abstract

High blood sugar levels in DM can inhibit wound healing and increase the risk of infection. Diabetic ulcer therapy with commercial anti-inflammatory drugs is relatively expensive and has side effects. VCO and diamond leaf extract have the potential as an alternative therapy with anti-inflammatory effects, but further research is needed regarding the right dose. This study aimed to analyze the impact of VCO administration with supplementation of diamond leaf extract (Azadirachta indica L.) on IL-6 levels in wound healing of type 2 DM model rats. This research is a true experimental research with a post-test-only control group design. This study used 25 male mice which were divided into five groups, namely: group P1 5% Intaran leaf extract, P2 10% Intaran leaf extract, P3 15% Intaran leaf extract, negative control (NaCl 0.9%), and positive control (Povidone Iodine). Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk statistical test, followed by the One-Way Anova test, the confirmation test, and the LSD test. The results showed a significant difference in IL-6 levels between the treatment groups, as evidenced by the One Way ANOVA statistical test results. Considerable value was obtained in the test of IL-6 levels on day 4 Sig. 0.003 and day 14 Sig. 0,046. It can be concluded that the treatment group giving VCO supplementation with intern leaf extract at a concentration of 10% affects wound healing with a decrease in IL-6 levels on day 14. This study provides an important contribution to DM wound healing efforts by using affordable natural ingredients with low potential side effects.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacteria that is often found to have resistance to antibiotics. Jukut pendul (Kyllinga nemoralis) extract is known to have antibacterial compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibitory ability of jukut pendul ethanol extract against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This research used the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method with five treatments within five repetitions. Data analysis was carried out using One Way Anova variance analysis. The variation in extract concentration tested was 5, 10, 20, and 40% with 96% ethanol as the control group and Ciprofloxacin as the work control. The results showed that extract concentrations of 5, 10, 20, and 40% were able to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with an average inhibitory zone of 9,36; 10,85; 11,64; and 12.15 mm, respectively. The inhibitory zone formed indicates that jukut pendul ethanol extract has moderate to strong inhibitory ability in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

SARS-CoV-2 is the causative agent of the disease known as COVID-19. COVID-19 is spreading very fast around the world. One of the immune responses that play a role in against SARS-CoV-2 infection is the production of antibodies, which is 3 weeks after infection. Where within 3 weeks after infection, antibodies will be produced against RBD and the S1 and S2 domains in glycoprotein S and nucleocapsid protein N. The ability of an antibody to inhibit viral infection is determined by its level or titer. This study aims to determine the description of antibody levels against SARS-CoV-2 after vaccination. This type of research is descriptive research. Measurement of antibody levels for SRBD SARS-CoV-2 was carried out using the CLIA method using the MAGLUMI tool. Of the 30 respondents, 23 people had received the third vaccine. The results of this study showed that the average level of SRBD antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in respondents with 2 doses of vaccine (1.063,786 BAU/mL) was higher than in respondents with 3 doses of vaccine (535.651 BAU/mL). Vaccine intervals of more than 6 months (908.338 BAU/mL) have higher antibody levels than respondents with vaccine intervals of 1-6 months (228.006 BAU/mL). The conclusion of this study is the highest antibody titers are produced >6 months after vaccination, antibody titers are still detectable after 12 months of vaccination, and for further research, it can be measured antibody levels against SARS-CoV-2 from people who have got vaccination for a duration of 2 years or more.
