Abstract

Abstract : The objective of this research is to find out types of errors made by the third year students of SMPN 14 Pekanbaru in writing descriptive text. This is a descriptive research. The subject of this study was the third year students of SMPN 14 Pekanbaru. In conducting this research, the writer used 30 students as a sample. The students were selected to be the sample using cluster sampling technique. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test. The result of this research showed that the students committed error into four types: omission, addition, misformaion, and misordering. From the frequency of each error type, ‘omission’ was the error which most frequently produced by the students. It took 47,25% of the total errors. Moreover, 32,11% errors fell into error of ‘misformation’ and 14,68% errors fell into ‘addition’; whereas, for error of ‘misordering’, it only took 5,96%.Key Words: Error, Writing, Descriptive text.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed to find out whether there are significant effects of information gap technique on the speaking ability of the second year students of SMPN 1 Sungai Apit. This is a pre-experimental research conducted by using a pre-test – treatment – post-test design. This research used one group pre-test post-test design.The instrument used in this research was tests (pre-test and post-test). The population of this research was 113 of the Second Year Students of SMPN 1 Sungai Apit and the sample of this research was VIII 2 of SMPN 1 Sungai Apit which is total number of students of class was 20 students. Cluster random sampling method was used to select one class to be the sample. The data of this research were collected by giving the speaking tests (pretest-posttest) to the students. The collected data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The results of data analysis showed the mean score of pre-test was 52.47 and the mean score of post-test was 67.20.Based on the data analysis, It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test because the t-test observed was higher than t-table. In other words, the alternative hypothesis of this researchwas accepted and null hypothesis was rejected. It also meant that teaching speaking by using information gap technique was effective to improve the students’ speaking ability. Keywords: Speaking Ability, Information Gap, Technique

Abstract

Abstract : This study was about speaking fluency level of the fifth semester students of English Study Program of Riau University. This is a descriptive quantitative research with 2 minutes recorded speech as primary data. 24 students were chosen from population of 75 students. The cluster random sampling was used to choose the students from 3 different classes.. The speeches were analysed through 2 steps: Spectrograms analysis & statistical analysis. The study showed that a small number of students speaking fluency level in English Study Program of Riau University are still in level Intermediate and although most students are categorized Good, at least the number of who are in level Advance is three times bigger then those in Intermdiate. Despite of the fact the students’s speaking fluency can be concluded as good, the writer would like to recommend other researchers to conduct similar research upon other speaking fluency test so that we can compare it for deeper analysis, more objective and holistic picture speaking fluency.Key Words : Fluency, Speaking, Objective

Abstract

Abstract: Based on the results of field observations on listening skills through storytelling with finger puppets in children aged 4-5 years is still low and teachers are still using methods that dominate and  not varied. The problems that arise in the listening skills of children aged 4-5 years play group Al-Abrar Teberau Panjang. This study aims to determine the increase listening skills through storytelling with finger puppets in children aged 4-5 years in a play group Al-Abrar Teberau Panjang district Gunung Toar. The sample used in this study amounted to 15 childrens. Based on data analysis and  the results showed that percentage of listening skills through storytelling with finger puppets increase significantly. Can be seen from the results of prior actions is 39.2% and then perform an action using a finger puppet, subsequently implemented the results obtained 41.62% next actions result 74.4%. If seen before by the actions that are in the low category as many as 12 children or 80%, moderate category as many as 3 children or 20% and there is no higher category or 0%. It can be seen that after the treatment, the listening skills of children has increased very significantly that there are children who are in the high category as many as 5 children or 33.33%, moderate category as many as 10 people or 66.34%, and there is no children in the low category or 0%.

Abstract

Abstract - This study aimed to find out whether or not Think-Pair-Share Strategy could increase the ability of the first year students of SMAN 1 Tembilahan Kota in comprehending narrative texts. The subjects were 22 students from class X.1 at SMAN 1 Tembilahan Kota. This study was classroom action research which was divided into two cycles, in which every cycle consisted of four stages which were plan, action, observation, and reflection. The data collection techniques consisted of observation, field note, and tests (pre-test, summative tests, and post-test). Observation sheets and field notes used to gain the record of the classroom activity during doing the treatments. Pre-test was done before action, summative tests were done after treatment given in each meeting, and post-test was done after the second cycle finished. In analyzing the data, the writer used formula by Hatch and Farhady (1982). The findings of this study indicated that TPS Strategy could increase the students ability in which there were 17 students or 77.3% of the students could achieve the standard minimum criteria of achievement (KKM) with average was 74,5. In addition, the percentage of students’ activities was also increased from the first to the last meetings. Moreover, the result of observation sheets and field notes showed a positive behavior in a process of learning and it also helped students to increase their reading ability and more active in learning and it also helped students to increase their reading ability and more active in learning process.   Keywords: Think-Pair-Share, students reading ability, narrative text

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between language learning strategies used by successful students of senior high schools in Dumai, Bengkalis, and Selat Panjang based on type of school, and academic factors. In addition, this study also aims to identify the strategies used by the respondents to learn English in general, four language skills, vocabulary, and structure. The population of the study are all successful students from senior high schools in Dumai, Bengkalis, and Selat Panjang. The number of the population is about 4000 students. Due to the homogenous characters of the population, the sample are taken randomly as big as 10 % or 400 students out of the population. The quantitative data are collected by using Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) (Oxford; 1989) while interviewing section is conducted to 60 selected students taken from the sample in order to get the qualitative data. Descriptive and inferential statistics are used to analyze the data on the use of the language learning strategies (SILL). One-Way Anova is used to determine the differences of language learning strategies usage based on academic, and type of school. The findings show different language learning strategies among the students based on type of school, and academic factors. The students used social strategy (mean: 4.02) as the most effective strategy. The implication of the study is that language learning strategies should be taught in the classroom.

Abstract

In the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, learning systems that still use paper based or face to face learning must be transformed into learning activities based on information and communication technology (ICT). A teacher must be able to use ICT as a tool to make the learning process more interesting, effective and efficient. The purpose of this activity is to provide technical guidance for teachers of the Bangkinang Cactus Cluster Elementary School - Kampar Regency in the form of introducing ICT concepts in schools, using interactive learning applications, and designing active learning scenarios through online learning according to the subjects taught. The Online-Based Active Learning Design Training activity was held in Kampar Regency. The teachers who are members of the Cactus Cluster consist of teachers from 6 elementary schools. The implementation stage begins with a pretest, which aims to determine the participants' initial knowledge. This activity fosters motivation for teachers to design classroom learning activities using active learning methods. Teachers obtain information and are also guided in designing active learning scenarios, designing Productive, Imaginative and open-ended questions and also designing worksheets and assessment sheets.

Abstract

Literacy Village is a village area that is used to create people who have broad knowledge and understanding. At the same time, it is also a program to realize the Sustainable Development Goals in 2030. An important effort made as the first step to build a Literacy Village in Maredan Barat physically is to build a Community Reading Park, as well as building positive perceptions of the community towards Literacy Village. This paper will explain the efforts made in building this Literacy Village. To get feedback and people’s perceptions about the activities done, 56 respondents were asked to give their responce to the given questionnaire. Respondents were selected by stratified random sampling. The results of the questionnaire analysis show that the community has a positive perception of the development of Literacy Village. In general, activities of Literacy Village development can be said to be successful, although there are still obstacles due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the Implementation of ALPEKA Application Usage in the Management of BOS Fund in SD Negeri Se-Kecamatan Senapelan Pekanbaru City, which refers to: (1) Goals; (2) managers; (3) facilities and infrastructure; (4) Implementation; (5) Evaluation of the use of ALPEKA applications. Implementation of ALPEKA application is analyzed from: (1) communication, (2) resources, (3) executor attitude, and (4) bureaucratic structure, based on the policy implementation model according to Edward. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data is taken through interviews, observation, and documentation.The results showed that: (1) Information received in the process of managing the BOS funds in SD Negeri as a sub-district senapelan Pekanbaru city has not been fully on time. (2) Resources, such as human resources, hardware resources, software resources and data management processes into information greatly assist the management of BOS funds. Because resources greatly affect the implementation of the use of ALPEKA applications in the management of BOS funds in SD Negeri in Senapelan sub-district Pekanbaru city. By using ALPEKA applications in the management of BOS funds will be more effective and efficient when compared with manuall.

Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the structuring and equality policies of the teaching loads of the state Senior High School (SMAN) teachers of Tembilahan Kota, Indragiri Hilir District.  The data were gathered through observation, interview and documentation. The informants of the research were employees of the District Education Office, school supervisors, head teachers, and a number of teachers in the Sub-district of Tembilahan Kota. The data analysis used in this study was policy analysis since the research employed the qualitative approach. The findings of the research indicated that (1) the program planning of the structuring and equality of the teachers’ teaching loads has been implemented. (2) In its implementation, however, there were teachers who could not have 24 teaching hours in a week. (3) The implementation of the planned program of the structuring and the equality of the teachers’ teaching loads was running smoothly, but not yet as maximal as expected.
