Abstract

Helminthiasis remains a major public health issue in tropical and subtropical regions, particularly in low- and middle-income countries such as Indonesia. Soil-transmitted helminths (Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, Necator americanus) contribute to malnutrition, anemia, stunting, and impaired cognitive development in children. While mass preventive drug administration (MPAD) with synthetic anthelmintics is effective, concerns about drug resistance highlight the need for alternative approaches. Pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita moschata), rich in cucurbitine and other nutrients, offer potential as a sustainable functional food with anthelmintic properties. This literature review (2013–2023) analyzed in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies from multiple countries, showing significant reductions in worm counts and egg outputs across various species, including A. lumbricoides, T. trichiura, Hymenolepis nana, Haemonchus contortus, and Clonorchis sinensis. Cucurbitine exerts neuromuscular paralysis on worms, while compounds such as flavonoids, phytosterols, and zinc improve hematological and nutritional status. Optimal effects occurred at doses ≥300 mg/kg extract or 20 g/day powder, with praziquantel co-administration enhancing efficacy to 90%. C. moschata demonstrates dual benefits as a natural anthelmintic and nutritional intervention, supporting its integration into helminthiasis control strategies alongside MPAD, sanitation, and nutrition programs. Further large-scale trials are needed to confirm efficacy and establish standardized protocols.

Abstract

Adolescent nutrition is a key determinant of health and human capital, yet in Indonesia, unbalanced diets and inadequate food quality continue to contribute to undernutrition among adolescents. This study aimed to assess the nutritional status and dietary intake of junior high school students participating in a free nutritious meal program implemented through the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) by the National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN). A descriptive quantitative study was conducted at SMP Negeri 23 Makassar on May 7, 2025, involving 50 purposively selected students. Data collection included anthropometric measurements—body weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC)—and dietary assessment using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). BMI-for-age was classified according to WHO standards. Data analysis applied Chi-square and simple linear regression to examine the association between dietary intake and BMI. Results showed that 38% of students were underweight, 48% had normal nutritional status, and the remainder were overweight or obese. Sex significantly affected BMI (p = 0.020), with females having higher mean BMI than males, while dietary intake category showed no significant association (R² = 0.006; p = 0.588). The SPPG program improved dietary patterns but requires integration with sustained nutrition education, active parental involvement, and regular monitoring to ensure long-term impact.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to investigate and understand the position of wives who marry consecutively and who are not the first wife in the perspective of heirs according to the Compilation of Islamic Law. The research method used is normative-juridical. Analysis of the research results shows that the position of other wives in polygamous marriages is equal in rights to the first wife. Joint property in a polygamous marriage is divided fairly, where the legal consequences of the inheritance of a husband who marries more than once legally are that when the husband dies, the division of joint property in his marriage is half of the joint property obtained with the first wife, and half of the joint property obtained with the second wife, each separately without any mixing of assets. Each wife in a polygamous marriage has the right to her husband's inheritance. The conclusion of this study is that there is no difference in inheritance rights between the first wife and subsequent wives, in accordance with the provisions of Religion and the Compilation of Islamic Law applicable in Indonesia. Recommendations from this research include the need for reform in the Law and incorporated in the omnibus rule of law, especially related to the distribution of inheritance in polygamous marriages, as some laws have accommodated what is implied in the Qur'an and AlHadith. The terms in the law need to be adjusted to reflect fair and balanced principles in accordance with religious values. In addition, wives in polygamous marriages need to pay attention to factors that may limit their inheritance rights and follow religious recommendations.

Abstract

This qualitative study investigates the complex interplay between financial literacy, financial behavior, self-control, debt management, and financial well-being. Utilizing in-depth interviews with a purposively selected group of individuals engaged in financial planning to manage personal or household debt, the research aims to explore how financial literacy, self-efficacy, and financial motivation mediate the relationship between financial planning and consumer debt management. The methodology encompasses a thematic analysis of participants' narratives to identify and interpret the underlying themes related to financial management practices. Findings reveal a multifaceted relationship where financial literacy emerges as a foundational element, enhancing participants' ability to manage debt effectively. High financial self-efficacy, influenced by literacy, motivates proactive financial behaviors, leading to improved financial well-being. Conversely, low self-control and procrastination were identified as significant barriers to effective debt management. The study also highlights the pivotal role of quantitative literacy and material values in shaping financial behavior, with strong quantitative skills and lower materialism associated with forward-looking financial decisions. These insights underscore the need for comprehensive financial education that addresses not only the cognitive aspects of financial decision-making but also the psychological factors influencing financial behaviors. Tailoring financial education to individual needs and contexts is critical for enhancing financial literacy, self-efficacy, and motivation, ultimately leading to better debt management and financial health.

Abstract

The increase in the Maternal Mortality Rate not only reflects maternal health problems, but also shows the existence of gender inequality and injustice. The low public awareness of pregnant women's health also contributes to the high number of AKI. Therefore, the participation of women's organizations in society is highly expected to be involved, contribute, and responsible for women's issues. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide assistance and training to women's organizations in an effort to prevent maternal and child deaths. This activity was carried out in the city of Makassar, especially in areas that are the center of women's community organization activities and there are pregnant women. The mentoring was carried out for 3 months, starting from June to August 2023, using pre and post test analysis. The results of this service activity show that women's organizations can play a role as a companion for pregnant women, which is assessed through increasing knowledge and attitudes before and after participating in training.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the legal provisions related to the division of joint property in divorce. In addition, this study also evaluates the implementation of these rules in judicial practice and the obstacles faced in resolving joint property disputes. The research method used is normative juridical with a statutory approach and analysis of court decisions. Data were obtained through a literature study of relevant legal regulations, doctrines, and jurisprudence. The results of the study indicate that the Civil Code regulates the division of joint property equally between husband and wife, unless there are certain reasons that affect the division. Meanwhile, the Marriage Law refers to the laws that apply to each party, both customary law, religion, and other regulations. In practice, there are still inconsistencies in the application of these rules in court, especially related to differences in judges' interpretations and the influence of the legal system adopted by the parties. This study recommends harmonization of the provisions in the Civil Code and the Marriage Law in order to create legal certainty. In addition, it is important for couples to understand the benefits of a marriage agreement as an effort to prevent disputes in the division of joint property after divorce.

Abstract

The increase in the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia is influenced by the interaction of internal and external multifactors. The incidence of DM is predicted to continue to increase to reach 578 million in 2030 and 700 million in 2045. This study aimed to analyze factors related to the incidence of diabetes in Indonesia.  This research used quantitative methods with a cross sectional approach and uses secondary data taken from the source "Riskesdas 2018". The unit of analysis in this research is 34 provinces in Indonesia. Data was analyzed using scatter plot diagrams. The results of the study showed that smoking habits, lack of physical activity, obesity, and difficulty in accessing primary health care have been shown to contribute to an increased risk of diabetes mellitus. Meanwhile, consumption of sweet foods is not directly related to an increase in diabetes mellitus. Health campaigns targeting smoking behavior, promotion of active lifestyles, education about the dangers of obesity, and improving the accessibility of health services can help reduce the risk of diabetes. Further research is needed to understand more deeply the factors that may contribute to the relationship between consumption of sweet foods that are not directly related to increased diabetes mellitus, as well as to design more effective intervention strategies.
