Abstract

This study aimed to analyze classroom interactions in the reflective teaching practice based on learning objectives and types of interactions, types of student questions and answers, and gender and student achievement. Teacher-student interactions, particularly in reflective learning, have been discussed in depth in urban schools. However, few studies reported the interactions between teachers and students in remote areas. The data collected for this cross-sectional study are part of a broader longitudinal research project. The participants comprised 46 students and 4 teachers from 3 remote schools representing 3 districts in Indonesia. The results showed that most of the teacher-student interactions in reflective teaching practice contained feedback that focused on students' correct and incorrect answers yet rarely discussed how students got answers. Teacher reflection was evaluative by discussing matters related to learning objectives. While reflections have not yet been related to the teacher’s method. This study also reported that gender and achievement did not affect the reflective teaching practice.

Abstract

The Makassar Bugis local wisdom, Pacce, contains values that are useful to instil self-confidence, a strong work ethic, and social awareness in individuals. The integration of these values into the learning process may assist in shaping student character. Unfortunately, research into learning models based on the Makassar Bugis local wisdom remains limited. Thus, the aim of this study was to generate a learning model based on the Bugis local wisdom, Pacce. In this study, we also ensured the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the learning model in promoting student character. The current study employed the Plomp & Nieveen research and development (R&D) model. The model was tried out to 32 tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pangkajene, Pangkep Regency. The research instruments comprised validation sheets, questionnaires, achievement tests, and character observation sheets. The results showed that the learning model and student worksheets developed in this study were valid in terms of cultural appropriation. The learning model was also practical and effective in improving student cultural awareness. It can be inferred that the learning model developed from the Bugis local wisdom may be used to develop student social awareness.

Abstract

The Problem-Oriented Project-Based Learning (POPBL) model is believed to be a learning approach that can effectively facilitate students in developing 21st-century skills. Adopting a student-centered approach is essential to engage students actively in learning activities. This study investigates the impact of the POPBL model on collaboration skills related to metabolic material and cell division. The research employs a quasi-experiment design, and the instrument used for data collection is a collaborative questionnaire that includes peer assessment and self-assessment. Analysis of students' collaboration skills, based on the average collaboration skills calculation, indicates that the experimental class using the POPBL learning model outperformed the control class. Prerequisite tests confirmed that the data are normally distributed and homogeneous. The ANCOVA data analysis results show a significant impact of the learning model treatment, with a significance value of p = 0.000<α = 0.05. This indicates that the hypothesis is accepted, and H0 is rejected. Consequently, there are significant differences in collaboration skills between the experimental class (XII MIPA 3) and the control class (XII MIPA 2). Abstract

Climate change has felt by all individual now. Its impact is massive change in human daily life across countries. Therefore, it is necessary to assess students, as a youth, climate change perception. This study aimed to analyze the tenth grader students’ climate change perception. This study is a quantitative design, with survey method. Using questioners, we were collected 283 high school students in Malang, Indonesia. All students are willing to giving their answer to the questions. Students were asked to rate the items based on the quality and relevance to the type of climate change perception that these items were supposed to assess on a scale from 1 (Terrible) to 5 (Excellent). The five items for each type of climate change perception were selected with 25 item questions in total. Five categories are: 1) reality (Q1-Q5), 2) causes (Q6-Q10), 3) valence of consequences (Q11-Q15), 4) spatial distances (Q16-Q20), 5) temporal distances (Q21-Q25). This study reveals that students have a belief that climate change is real. Some students have used to doing good habits to reduce energy use and have the will to tackle the crisis. Students also believe that climate change was caused by the human activities rather than natural phenomenon. Students have a good understanding of climate change, but there are still many students who have not yet taken their action to tackle climate change. From the result, we briefly argue that student’s climate should be integrated in school learning in a form of climate change education to ensuring them taking their climate action in daily life.
