Abstract

The city of Padang as the capital city of West Sumatra Province has a coastal area consisting of a layer of sandy soil until depth of 32 m. One of these coastal areas is the Jambak sand beach area, Padang. Sandy soil in loose condition has low shear strength, so it is necessary to improve the soil to increase strength sn’l. In this study the ground improvement technique used was grouting, the grouting materials used were cement and water with a ratio of 1:2. Grouting is carried out at a depth of 50 cm with a certain pressure (2 Psi), and curing for 7 days. The main purpose of grouting is to produce soil or rock that is stronger, denser and less permeable, to fill voids that may not be accessible without a certain amount of pressure. To obtain soil classification in the field, sondir tests were carried out before and after grouting. The results showed the was an increase in the bearing strength of the sandy soil as a result of injecting cement into the soil in the holes, seen in holes 1 and 2 with qc values ranging from 50-55 kg/cm2 at 1D distance and it was seen that the qc values decreased as the sondir point got further away from the grouting column, there was an increase in the qc value at 1D distance of around 2.5-2.75 times the control qc value on the 7th day after grouting. The qc value decreases when the sondir point is far from the grouting point.

Abstract

The development of a contingency document is a process of identifying and planning for future scenarios that are likely to occur but not certain. Following the flood disaster in Pesisir Selatan Regency in 2024, a community service activity under the community partnership program to assist village development (PKM-MNM) was carried out. This activity involved preparing a flood disaster contingency document as a guideline for managing emergency flood disaster response in Pesisir Selatan Regency to ensure that emergency response can be managed quickly and effectively. The focus area of the program included disaster mitigation efforts (before, during, and after the disaster). Additionally, the guideline serves to coordinate human resources and facilities during emergency flood responses. The preparation of this contingency document involved several stages, including aligning perceptions through a Forum Group Discussion (FGD), conducting survey data collection for the contingency document, verifying data on-site, socializing the preparation of the contingency document, drafting risk assessment and disaster response plans, and reporting and evaluating activities. The resulting flood disaster contingency document encompasses flood characteristics and scenarios, identifying flood-prone areas, intensity, duration, and impacts. It includes assumed impacts such as infrastructure damage, evacuations, and service disruptions, preparedness measures outlining instructions and coordination among parties for effective response, and action plans covering operational strategies, evacuation, and the provision of emergency aid. This program successfully enhanced community involvement, particularly through Disaster Preparedness Groups (KSB), in disaster mitigation and preparedness. The outcomes of this PKM-MNM activity are expected to transform partner regions into disaster-resilient areas fostered by universities and co-funded by local governments, CSR initiatives, and other sponsors. The contingency document produced from this activity is also anticipated to serve as a reference for further studies on disaster risk management in other regions with similar geographical characteristics.

Abstract

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, a natural disaster involving cold lahar floods and landslides occurred in Tanah Datar and Agam Regencies, West Sumatra Province. This disaster was triggered by high-intensity rainfall upstream of Mount Marapi, which caused rain-induced lahar flows. Moderate to heavy rainfall eroded and carried volcanic sediment deposits, forming lahar flows. The disaster caused significant damage, including destruction of infrastructure such as roads and bridges, public buildings like mosques and offices, residential houses, and loss of lives. In response to the disaster, Andalas University, through its Disaster Response Center Team from the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM), conducted a site survey of the affected areas on Monday, May 13, 2024. This community service activity was carried out to assess the damaged infrastructure caused by the flash floods, providing solutions and recommendations for repair and reinforcement, and ensuring the infrastructure's usability post-disaster. This community service (PkM-P) activity was carried out using a comprehensive methodological approach employing field survey techniques. The survey was conducted to gain a clear understanding of the physical condition of the cliffs and their surrounding environment along the Padang-Bukittinggi national road at the coordinates 0°29'36"S 100°20'20"E, which are in a critical state following the Anai River flash flood. The activities included preparation and planning, field surveys, data collection and analysis, as well as reporting and recommendations. The assessment results indicated that the previously implemented methods failed to withstand the high flood pressure. Recommendations for repair and reinforcement include the construction of levees and stream diversions in the Anai River, road drainage systems, planting stronger vegetation, road realignment, and routine monitoring.

Abstract

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, a flash flood struck parts of West Sumatra, including Nagari Andaleh. This disaster drew significant attention from the government and educational institutions, which responded by organizing the Disaster Community Service Program - Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (KKN-MBKM Kebencanaan) in Nagari Andaleh. As part of this program, students and Field Supervisors (DPL) carried out Community Service Activities Integrated with Student Activities (PkM-TKM), which included socialization about flash flood evacuation and the creation of an evacuation map. The activities began with drafting evacuation materials, validating, creating the map, and conducting field verification. Once the map was finalized, students and DPL, supported by Civil Engineering lecturers from UNAND, conducted socialization and training sessions on post-disaster impacts, including actions and evacuation directions that the Nagari Andaleh community should follow during a disaster. The high level of community participation during the discussions demonstrated strong enthusiasm for such positive initiatives. The outcomes of these activities included increased preparedness and knowledge among the Nagari Andaleh community regarding emergency responses to flash floods, enabling more effective evacuations during such events. Additionally, the flash flood evacuation map produced from this initiative serves as an important reference for both the community and local government of Nagari Andaleh to minimize disaster risks in the future.

Abstract

Mental health has become a pressing issue in higher education, with university students increasingly vulnerable to stress, anxiety, and reduced academic engagement. While self-regulation and general self-efficacy are recognized as key determinants of academic adjustment, the mechanisms linking these constructs remain underexplored. This study investigates the influence of self-regulation on general self-efficacy, emphasizing the mediating role of mental well-being among university students. A total of 380 valid responses were collected from undergraduate students in Pekanbaru, Indonesia, using validated scales for self-regulation, mental well-being, and general self-efficacy. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with AMOS 26 was employed to test the hypothesized relationships. The findings reveal that self-regulation significantly predicts both mental well-being and general self-efficacy. Furthermore, mental well-being demonstrates a positive and significant mediating effect on the relationship between self-regulation and general self-efficacy. These results underscore the importance of mental well-being as a psychological resource that strengthens the pathway between self-regulatory competence and efficacy beliefs. Theoretically, this study extends self-regulated learning models by integrating mental health as a mediating construct, while practically, it highlights the need for higher education institutions to design interventions that foster both self-regulatory skills and psychological well-being. By positioning mental well-being as both an outcome of self-regulation and a driver of self-efficacy, the study provides actionable insights for enhancing student resilience and academic success, particularly in the post-pandemic era
