Abstract

Abstract

Soft soils pose significant challenges in infrastructure development due to their low bearing capacity and high compressibility, which cause settlement and deformation over time through consolidation. Despite advancements in soil improvement techniques, faster and more efficient methods for accelerating soil consolidation remain crucial for achieving structural stability in a reasonable timeframe. Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD) have been widely adopted to accelerate soil consolidation, with their effectiveness typically evaluated through field-scale studies. However, field experiments can be time-consuming, costly, and influenced by site-specific variables, making controlled assessments challenging. We developed a small-scale laboratory experiment to evaluate the effect of PVD on soil consolidation. Soil samples were collected from the Padang-Pekanbaru Toll Road construction site in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Under controlled laboratory settings, two models were constructed—one with PVD and one without—using PVC pipes (20.32 cm diameter, 3.0 m height) filled with saturated soil to simulate field-scale soil columns. We found that PVD significantly enhanced soil consolidation. The rate of settlement on conditions without PVD was 1.2 times slower than that with PVD, particularly under lower loads. In contrast, PVD-enhanced models exhibit 5.3 times faster and greater settlement than conditions without PVD, along with 7.15 times higher water discharge. Metrics such as the coefficient of consolidation (Cv) and t90 values reinforced that PVD accelerated the consolidation process, particularly when subjected to higher loads. This study ultimately supports the development of more reliable laboratory methods for evaluating PVD applications, thereby enhancing design decisions across various consolidation scenarios and providing valuable insights for future infrastructure projects.

Abstract

Learning models appearing in the classroom are psychologically far from students’ daily lives, despite the fact that there are numerous traditions available to students that might form the basis for the development of a learning model. This study was intended to produce a model of Project Based Learning (PBL) based on Batobo. The Batobo tradition performed by Kuantan Singingi people in Riau is a tradition of working together on an agricultural land. This study used research and development (R&D) proposed by Borg and Gall stages to develop the tradition based learning model. The data collection technique started from conducting a literature review, interviewing groups or community leaders and designing models. The results of the research revealed that Batobo based Project Based Learning model was conducted in five stages in learning included the initiation (manyamulo), followed by project planning (mancangkul/manugal), project implementation (mananam), discussion (manuai) and the last stage was evaluation (closing). The Batobo based Project Based Learning model described the learning activities carried out by referring to the Batobo tradition. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the PBL model based on the batobo tradition which consists of five stages of learning developed is suitable for use in elementary schools.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health crisis, exacerbated by rising drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. While conventional therapies like BPaL/BPaLM regimens and shorter rifapentine-based treatments show promise 11–33, the need for novel anti-TB agents persists. Natural compounds, particularly from biodiverse regions like Indonesia 77, offer untapped potential, yet prior bibliometric analyses lack comprehensive integration of computational and multi-omics approaches to guide future research. This study maps the research landscape of natural compounds for TB treatment (2015–2025) through bibliometric analysis, identifying gaps and proposing AI-driven, multi-disciplinary strategies to accelerate drug discovery. PubMed-derived data (23 articles) were analyzed using VOSviewer to visualize co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, and thematic clusters. Trends in authorship, geographic contributions, and research foci (e.g., molecular docking, drug resistance) were evaluated. China dominated research output (11/23 studies), with clusters emphasizing computational methods (e.g., virtual screening), bacterial enzymes, and animal models. Keyword analysis revealed a strong focus on drug resistance and synergism, yet limited exploration of AI, multi-omics, or ethnopharmacology. Notably, studies like Romulo et al. (2018) highlighted Indonesian plants’ anti-TB potential 77, but systematic integration with modern technologies remains underexplored. This study identifies a critical gap: the need to merge traditional natural compound research with AI-aided drug design, multi-omics (e.g., transcriptomics 1616), and nanodelivery systems. By proposing a framework that bridges computational predictions (e.g., molecular docking 1515) with experimental validation, this research advances a novel, scalable approach to combat drug-resistant TB, leveraging global biodiversity and cutting-edge technologies.

Abstract

Mount Marapi in West Sumatra is an active mountain with a history of disasters, including galodo or flash floods due to eruptions and high rainfall. The soil material carried by the galodo greatly influences the potential for disaster. This research analyzes the classification and characteristics of galodo soil material and its relationship with disaster potential, as well as determining mitigation efforts that can be carried out. This research method uses laboratory experiments. Soil samples were taken from 16 points at seven river locations, namely Batang Jambu, Batang Malanang, Batang Bangkahan, Batang Arau, Sungai Talang, and Batang Anai, with a distance of 50 meters between points. Samples were collected in the form of disturbed soil, which was then analyzed to determine its physical and mechanical properties. The results showed that the galodo soil material was classified as sand (SW), silty sand (SM), and clayey sand (SC). Its physical properties include a specific gravity of 2.65-2.67, a bulk density of 1.61-1.96 gr/cm3, and a plasticity index of 8.25-9.17%. Mechanically, the soil has a cohesion of 0.029–0.071 kg/cm2 and a deep shear angle of 26.57–37.77°. These characteristics indicate non-cohesive properties, so when saturated due to high rainfall, the pore water pressure increases and causes high-speed debris flow. The kinetic energy of these flows can damage riverbanks, settlements, and infrastructure. Mitigation measures include structural measures such as the construction of check dams, groundsills, and sabo dams, as well as non-structural measures such as early warning, disaster education, and limiting settlements on riverbanks.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed patterns in all aspects of society, including its impact on political participation in society. Blitar Regency is a small example in several regions in Indonesia which carry out the 2020 simultaneous regional elections during the pandemic with a slightly different style from previous years. The purpose of the study was to determine the political participation of the Blitar district community in the 2020 simultaneous elections. The qualitative research method is a socio-political research with a normative-juridical approach with empirical data obtained from some information from informants who developed in the field. The results show that in a pandemic situation Covid-19 which has the potential to reduce public political participation in exercising their voting rights, it turns out that the Blitar Regency KPU is able to create a solution that is anticipatory, namely by implementing strict health protocols, and massive socialization either directly or digitally, so that it is able to approach the expected target, even higher from the previous two years. KPU, KPPS and the local community cooperate with each other to anticipate by trying to ensure health security during the simultaneous regional elections, also always trying to avoid possible frauds.
