Abstract

The increasingly advanced digital era, the phenomenon of cyber violence or digital violence is increasingly disturbing. This study aims to analyze the influence of self-control and social control (the role of parents and peers) on cyber violence. This study uses a quantitative approach, the sample consists of 250 high school students. Data analysis uses a structural transaction model (SEM). The results of the study showed a significant correlation between empathy and cyber violence, where individuals with low levels of empathy tend to engage in violent behavior online. Self-control is also significantly correlated with cyber violence; low levels of self-control are associated with detrimental behavior online. An interesting finding is the role of parents, where poor emotional relationships and lack of parental supervision contribute to cyber violence. No correlation was found between peer influence and cyber violence, indicating that social learning theory is stronger in the context of delinquent behavior with peers than cyber violence. Empathy also acts as a mediator between self-control and cyber violence, where high empathy strengthens the positive influence of self-control in avoiding detrimental behavior online. This study provides important insights for the prevention and control of cyber violence, emphasizing the importance of empathy, self-control, and the role of parents in shaping positive behavior in cyberspace.

Abstract

Abstract

Children from broken homes are those who come from disharmonious and unstable family environments, which can lead to various psychological impacts such as emotional distress and a sense of insecurity. Therefore, social support is necessary as a platform for these individuals to cope with their broken home situations. Social support is crucial for helping individuals understand themselves and solve their problems with the assistance or presence of others. An online support community serves as one form of social support that children from broken homes can utilize. This study employs a qualitative phenomenological research method. Data were collected through interviews with three informants who came from broken home families. The findings reveal that online support communities play a significant role in providing emotional support and information for children affected by broken homes. However, one of the challenges identified is the lack of physical closeness among members, which limits the expression of certain forms of physical affection or direct support.

Abstract

Enhancing educational outcomes for underachieving gifted students, defined as those with an IQ ≥ 110 but mathematics scores below 80%, requires innovative teaching strategies. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) compared to conventional teaching for improving mathematics learning outcomes among underachieving gifted students. Using a experimental design with randomised pre-test and post-test groups, 60 students from class XII IPA at SMA Negeri 5 Surabaya were assigned to either the STAD (n=30) or control group (n=30). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent t-test. The STAD group achieved a mean gain score of 39.633, compared to 27.267 for the control group, with a significant difference (t(58) = 7.380, p <0.001, d =1.91). These findings suggest STAD is effective for enhancing mathematics performance in this Indonesian population, supporting its use in collaborative learning contexts. Further research should explore long-term effects and additional outcomes.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of information technology has expanded social interactions while simultaneously generating negative phenomena such as cyberbullying, which significantly affects individuals' psychological conditions. Cyberbullying can disrupt empathy and self-worth in both victims and offenders, making it essential to be explored comprehensively. This study aims to explore and analyze the effects of empathy and self-worth on involvement in cyberbullying from the perspectives of victims and offenders. A quantitative survey method was employed, using random sampling techniques to recruit 950 high school students as participants. Data were collected through standardized instruments measuring empathy and self-worth, and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings revealed that empathy significantly influenced involvement in cyberbullying; individuals with higher empathy levels were more likely to become victims (β = 0.321, p = 0.003) but less likely to become offenders (β = -0.048, p = 0.044). In contrast, self-worth had a significant effect on victim involvement (β = 0.264, p = 0.003) but showed no significant relationship with offenders (β = 0.011, p = 0.647). These results indicate that empathy functions as a protective factor against becoming a cyberbullying offender while paradoxically increasing vulnerability to victimization. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for developing character-based intervention programs to prevent cyberbullying in educational environments.

Abstract

Psychological capital is the condition of persons maintaining a positive attitude and effectively facing unpleasant conditions. This enables the completion of assignments and preparation for future success. Adaptation of psychological capital questionnaire for Indonesia was due to the absence of a measuring tool used within educational context. Therefore, this study aimed to adapt and validate Psychological Capital Questionnaire (PCQ-12) in the Indonesian language. The subjects comprised Senior high school (SMA) students from the Malang Raya area, totaling 348 participants. Furthermore, data analysis was conducted using Rasch model. The results showed that the PCQ-12 met the principles of unidimensionality and local independence. The Questionnaire comprised 12 items, with an instrument, item, and person reliability of 0.89, 0.98, and 0.88, respectively. Items that were challenging to agree upon included numbers 2, 5, 7, and 11, as well as items 8, 9, and 12. The PCQ-12 appropriately categorized response options into 6 choices, ensuring its suitability for use in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper studies the drivers that have a significant impact on organizational resilience in terms of ransomware attacks in the hospitality industry of Indonesia, with a particular focus on hotels operating in Bali. The interviews with IT managers in two of the most important hotels were conducted using in-depth interviews. They showed that the ransomware attacks caused severe operational disturbances and a loss of consumer confidence. Despite these, several proactive measures have been put in place by the hotels, and this has emanated through the strong leadership from the senior management to upgrade cybersecurity infrastructure and to instigate staff awareness programs. The findings pinpoint budget limitations and inadequate training, which align with the existing literature, as some of the important obstacles. The work underlines the desperate need for adaptive strategies in cybersecurity and develops an understanding that a collective organizational commitment is required toward sensitive data protection and good reputation building. Indeed, the research points out that creating security awareness among all employees would genuinely enhance the culture of cybersecurity and resilience. Collaboration between industry players and governmental bodies may provide the required wherewithal and frameworks for building up strength with which the ransomware threat could be tackled effectively. Given the practical recommendations, it might be useful to consider how to make the hospitality industry resilient in the case of ransomware attacks
