Abstract

Underachiever is discrepancy between school achievement and the intelligence level of students, where school achievement is lower than the level of intelligence. This study systematically examines the results of research related to underchiver students. This study aims to identify several factors that are thought to be causes of underachiever student and solutions that can be used to provide appropriate support for students in the process of learning mathematics. The research method used is a systematic literature review with journal criteria, namely the data used is only related to the causative factors and solutions of underachiever students, and the journals used must be indexed by Scopus and Sinta. From the results of the literature study found 169 articles published in national and international journals. Of the 169 articles, 11 articles were selected that met the requirements for the analysis. The results of the analysis show that the causes of underachiever students are internal factors, namely the student's own personality and external factors that come from family and school, then the solutions offered in dealing with underachiever students include the application of fun learning with cognitive and behavioral strategies, psychoeducational interventions in the form of training and learning with approaches are accompanied by a well-prepared strategy for gifted students.

Abstract

Some research about identifying the differences between male and female students’ written communication skills has been done before. However, the previous research only focused on qualitative studies. Therefore, there is still a lack of empirical proof of the result. This study aims to test whether a significant difference exists between male and female students' written mathematical communication skills and identify their performance difficulties. The subjects were 14 male and 14 female students at the junior high school. The instrument was a test of mathematical communication skills on quadrilateral topics. The research method used was a mixed method with a sequential explanatory design. The data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U to measure the difference between male and female students’ written mathematical communication skills, and document analysis was conducted to analyze their difficulties in performing written mathematical communication. The results showed that even though there is no significant difference between written mathematical communication skills between male and female students, there is a significant difference when viewed from each indicator.  In addition, the difficulties experienced by male and female students are difficulties expressing mathematical ideas using mathematical symbols, using facts and concepts to solve problems, and operating algebraic forms.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini mengukur tentang kemampuan koneksi dan berpikir kritis matematis. Salah satu alternatif pembelajaran yang memungkinkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan koneksi dan berpikir kritis matematis adalah pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan proses berpikir reflektif. Pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan proses berpikir reflektif adalah pendekatan pembelajaran yang membantu siswa untuk memperoleh pengetahuan baru yang lebih bermakna melalui suatu proses berpikir dengan bantuan seorang guru. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan koneksi dan berpikir kritis matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan menggunakan pendekatan proses berpikir reflektif, serta mengetahui pandangan siswa selama pembelajaran. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP N.4 Kota Banda Aceh, sedangkan sampelnya adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 4 Banda Aceh. Dua kelas dipilih secara Purposive Sampling menurut kelas dari seluruh kelas VIII untuk dijadikan kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen. Instrumen yang digunakan terdiri dari tes koneksi dan berpikir kritis matematis, angket sikap siswa, lembar observasi dan jurnal siswa. Berdasarkan analisis data menggunakan SPSS 16,0 dan Microsoft Excel 2007, dapat disimpulkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan koneksi dan berpikir kritis matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan proses berpikir reflektif lebih baik daripada kemampuan koneksi dan berpikir kritis matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional. Siswa memiliki sikap positif terhadap pelajaran matematika; aktivitas siswa setelah memperoleh pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan proses berpikir reflektif secara keseluruhan baik. Abstract: This research measured about mathematical critical thinking and connection ability. One of alternative approach that was possible to improve mathematical critical thinking and connection ability was reflective thinking process. This was an approach which helped students to get new valuable knowledge through a thinking process with teacher’s help. The aim of this research was to improve mathematical critical thinking and connection ability of students who were taught by using reflective thinking process and to know how students’ views during teaching process. The population was students of SMPN 4 BNA. Two classes were chosen by using purposive sampling from the whole class VIII included experimental and controlling classes. The instrument used included mathematical critical thinking and connection ability test, questionnaire of students’ behavior, observation sheets, and students’ journals. Based on data analysis using SPSS 16, 0 and Microsoft excel 2007, it could be concluded that the improvement of mathematical critical thinking and connection ability of students who were taught by using reflective thinking process as teaching approach was better than that of who were taught by using conventional method. Students had positive behaviors toward mathematics subject. Students’ activities after getting reflective thinking process were good at all.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji masalah peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa sebelum dan setelah memperoleh pembelajaran the firing line dan konvensional, serta peningkatan disposisi matematis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi experiment dengan desain kelompok kontrol non-ekuivalen, dengan populasi siswa kelas VIII pada salah satu SMPN di Kota Padang. Satu kelas sebagai kelompok kontrol yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional dan satu kelas lainnya sebagai kelompok eksperimen yang memperoleh pembelajaran the firing line. Instrumen pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini ialah instrumen tes dan skala disposisi matematis, dengan analisis menggunakan uji perbedaan rataan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa; (1)peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran the firing line lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional, (2) disposisi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran the firing line lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional. Abstract. The purposes of this research were to improve the ability of students in mathematical communication which they get the firing line learning, and assessing the improvement of students’ mathematical disposition after apply the firing line and conventional learning. This research is a quasi experiment with design group control non-equivalent. The population of this research is class VIII SMP which one of the junior school in Padang. The class selected as a control group who obtain conventional learning and the other classes as the experimental group gained the firing line learning. The instrument used to collect data in this study consisted of test, scale mathematical disposition, and observation sheets.Then, test will be analysed with the SPSS 16. The results of this research are, (1) the ability of student’s mathematical communication who get the Firing Line learning is better than students who get conventional learning, (2) the students’s mathematical disposition who get the Firing Line is better than students who get conventional learning.

Abstract

Abstrak. Salah satu kemampuan matematis yang diharapkan dapat dimiliki dengan baik oleh siswa SMP adalah kemampuan pemahaman matematis. Oleh karena itu, sangat diharapkan siswa SMP dapat memiliki kemampuan pemahaman matematis yang baik, namun tidak begitu pada kenyataannya. Salah satu faktornya adalah kecemasan matematika. Hal inilah yang mendasari pelaksanaan penelitian ini. Oleh karena itu, pembahasan pada penelitian ini terkait dengan peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan penurunan kecemasan matematika siswa antara siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe the power of two dengan siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran konvensional. Selain itu, mengingat adanya keterkaitan antara kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan kecemasan matematika siswa, maka dikaji pula hubungan antara kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan kecemasan matematika siswa. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII di salah satu SMP Negeri di Rokan Hulu Riau. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe the power two terhadap peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan penurunan kecemasan matematika siswa SMP. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain kelompok kontrol non-ekuivalen. Teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa pretes, postes, lembar observasi, wawancara dan angket skala kecemasan matematika siswa. Pengolahan data ini menggunakan bantuan SPSS 16 dan Ms. Excel. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh adalah: (1) Peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran kooperatif tipe the power of two lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran secara konvensional; (2) Kecemasan matematika siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran kooperatif tipe the power of two lebih rendah  daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran secara konvensional; (3) Terdapat hubungan negatif antara kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan kecemasan matematika siswa. Abstract. One of mathematical ability which is hoped can be possessed well by Junior High School students is mathematical understanding ability. Therefore, it is hoped that Junior High School students can posses good mathematical understanding ability, but in reality, it is not such a case. One of factor is mathematical anxiety.  This is which underlie the implementation of this study.  Therefore, the discussion in this study related with the enhancement of student’s mathematical understanding ability and student’s mathematical anxiety reduction between students who get cooperative learning, the power of two type and students who get conventional learning. In addition, because there is relatedness between student’s mathematical understanding ability and mathematical anxiety, the relation between student’s mathematical understanding ability and mathematical anxiety is studied also.  Subject in this study are students of class VII from one of Public Junior High School in Rokan Hulu Riau. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of cooperative learning model, the power two type toward the enhancement of mathematical understanding ability and mathematical anxiety reduction of Junior High School students.The method which is used is quasi experiment with non equivalent control group design.The sampling technique is purposive sampling. Instruments used are pretest, posttest, observation sheet, interview and questionnaire of student’s mathematical anxiety reduction.  Data processing use the aid of SPSS 16 and Ms. Excel. Results of study which are obtained are: (1) The enhancement of mathematical understanding ability of students who get cooperative learning, the power of two type is better than students who get learning conventionally; (2) Mathematical anxiety of students who get cooperative learning, the power of two type is lower than students who get learning conventionally; (3) There is negative relation between student’s mathematical understanding ability and student’s mathematical anxiety.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini didasarkan pada permasalahan rendahnya kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, dilakukan penelitian dengan menggunakan strategi pembelajaran aktif tipe kuis tim (SPATKT) dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini mengkaji peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran SPATKT dan pembelajaran konvensional. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII salah satu SMP di Rancaekek Kabupaten Bandung. Untuk sampel penelitiannya diambil dua kelas, satu kelas sebagai kelas kontrol dan satu kelas lainnya sebagai kelas eksperimen. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian berupa tes kemampuan pemahaman matematis. Analisis data dilakukan dengan uji statistik deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran SPATKT lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional, dan kualitas peningkatan termasuk kategori sedang. Abstract. This research is based on a mathematical understanding of the problems of low ability students. To overcome these problems, the research done by using active learning strategy type quiz team (SPATKT) in learning. This study examines the increasing ability of mathematical understanding students who obtain the conventional learning and SPATKT learning. This research was quasi experimental study by using purposive sampling technique. The population in this research is the whole grade VIII one of the SMP in Rancaekek, Bandung Regency. For a sample of his research taken two classes, one class as the control class and one other class as a class experiment. The instruments used in the study of mathematical understanding ability tests. The data analysis done with test descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that the increased understanding of the mathematical ability of students obtaining study SPATKT better than students who get conventional learning, and quality improvement including the categories are.

Abstract

Abstrak. Rendahnya kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa bisa terjadi dua faktor. Faktor pertama adalah siswa yang belum cukup memiliki self concept matematis. Faktor kedua yaitu guru tanpa memperhatikan kesiapan komunikasi matematis siswa. Dengan permasalahan tersebut peneliti mengembangkan  model pembelajaran Kemp Berbasis think pair square dengan tujuan meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi siswa dan self concept siswa. Penelitian merupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan menggunakan desain eksperimennya adalah desain kelompok kontrol tidak ekuivalen. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMPN 1 Arjawinangun Kabupaten Cirebon dengan mengambil sampel 2 kelas untuk kelompok eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Kelompok eksperimen memperoleh pembelajaran model Kemp berbasis think pair square, kelas kontrol dengan pembelajaran konvensional. Dalam pelaksanaanya, tes kemampuan komunikasi diberikan pretes dan postes sedangkan self concept diberikan setelah proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan skala sikap. Pengujian dilakukan melalui data N-gain kemampuan komunikasi dan skala sikap. Hasil penelitiannya adalah Pembelajaran dengan model Kemp berbasis think pair square dapat meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi dan self concept matematis siswa lebih baik dari pada pembelajaran konvensional. Abstract. The low of Math Communication ability students can caused by two factor. The first factor is students have no ability of sefl concept math. The second factor is teacher without pay attention to readiness communication students math. Bassed on this problem reaserchen try to develop teaching Kemp model based ability of think pair square to increasing ability of students communication and students self concept. Research is quasi experiment research use its design experiment group control not equivalen. The population of this research was all student of grade 8th SMPN 1 Arjawinangun Regency Cirebon, take class for sample to experiment group and control. Experiment group get teaching model Kemp based ability think pair square, class control with conventional teaching. In activity test communication ability given pre test and post test, while self concept given after teaching process that use behavior scale. This testing by data N-gain communication ability and behavior scale. The result of research is teaching with ability model teaching based think pair square can increasing communication ability and self concept math students better than conventional teaching.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini mengkaji  pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan open-ended dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis siswa. Desain penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperiment non-equivalent control group, yang melibatkan 70 siswa di salah satu Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri di Kabupaten Bandung. Instrumen penelitian digunakan tes kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis dan non tes angket skala sikap serta lembar observasi siswa. Analisis statistik yang dilakukan menggunakan uji rerata dengan statistik parametrik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis siswa kelompok eksperimen lebih baik daripada kelompok kontrol. Siswa bersikap positif terhadap pembelajaran yang dilaksanakan. Abstract This study aims to analysis mathematics use open-ended approach to increase students creative thinking in mathematics. The sample in this quasi experiment non-equivalent control group design consisted of 70 students from a middle school in Bandung.  Instrumens that use in this research were mathematical creative thinking test, attitude questionnaire and observation sheet. The data were analyzed using  compare mean test. The results showed an increase in the experiment-class better than the control-class on mathematical creative thinking. And student showed positif attitude towards open-ended approach.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh hasil-hasil penelitian terdahulu yang menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa sangat penting dan masih perlu ditingkatkan. Salah satu pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematis adalah strategi pembelajaran multiple intelligences, pembelajaran dengan melibatkan delapan kecerdasan dasar yang dimiliki siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan penalaran matematis mana yang lebih baik antara siswa kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol, serta untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan penalaran siswa berdasarkan tingkat kemampuan awal matematis.  Penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen yang menerapkan dua pembelajaran yaitu Strategi MI dan pembelajaran konvensional. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa di salah satu SMP di Kabupaten Ciamis. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara purposive sampling, dan diperoleh kelas VIII F dan VIII G. Untuk kepentingan analisis masing-masing kelas penelitian dikategorikan menurut kemampuan awal matematis (KAM; tinggi, sedang, rendah). Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan penalaran matematis. Analisis data ditinjau berdasarkan data keseluruhan dan kategori KAM. Berdasarkan hasil analisis tersebut diperoleh kesimpulan: 1) peningkatan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran MI lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional; 2) terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa yang memperoleh strategi pembelajaran MI berdasarkan kategori KAM (tinggi, sedang, rendah). Abstract. The research is motivated by the results of previous research which states that mathematical reasoning ability of students is very important and need to be improved. One strategy that can enchance learning of mathematical rasoning abilities are multiple intelligences learning strategies, learning involves eight basic types of intelligences of the studnts. The purpose of this study was to determine enchancemnt mathematical reasoming ability which is better between the experimental class students and control class and to investigate the improvement of students reasoning abilities based on the initial level of mathematical ability. This research is a quasi-experiment study that applies two learning models: MI and conventional learning. Population of this research is all student in one SMP in Kabupaten Ciamis. Sampling used by purposive sampling, VIII F and VIII G represent as sampling. Each class is grouped based on mathematical prior ability (MPA: upper, middle, lower levels). Research instruments are mathematical reasoning test. The result obtained are: 1) the enhancement of students’ mathematical reasoning ability who were taught under MI is better than those who were taught under conventional learning; 2) there is different enhancement mathematical reasoning ability who were taught under MI based on MPA (upper, middle, lower levels).

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the availability of activity content in curriculum merdeka textbooks of grade VII on plane geometry materials published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. The research method was carried out in a descriptive qualitative manner with the type of textbook content analysis. Mathematical communication indicators are used as the aspect of analysis. The research results obtained are that all activities in this book have been able to support the improvement of students' mathematical communication competence, although there are no special labels or instructions related to mathematical communication indicators embedded in each activity so that the meaning is still implied or based on the opinion of researchers with adjusted theory used in relation to mathematical communication. From the data analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that the content material is good enough based on the percentage category table for the suitability of book activity, which is equal to 39%. Based on the research this books can help students develop their mathematical communication ability  with teacher guidance. However, basically this book provides sufficient activities as an effort to improve students' mathematical communication skills if teachers are able to use this book well as a resource and learning media in the classroom
