Abstract

This study aims to describe the managerial capabilities of kindergarten principals in improving the quality of early childhood education. The golden age of children, ranging from 0 to 6 years, is a critical period that shapes cognitive, socio-emotional, language, and motor skills development. Therefore, the success of early childhood education largely depends on the leadership quality of school principals as educational managers. This research used a library research method by analyzing relevant journals, scholarly articles, and books. The findings show that kindergarten principals with strong managerial skills effectively carry out management functions: planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling (POAC). Additionally, principals play multiple roles as educators, administrators, supervisors, leaders, innovators, and motivators. These roles significantly contribute to teacher performance and the overall quality of learning in the school. Previous studies confirm a positive and significant relationship between principals' managerial competencies and both teacher performance and student learning outcomes. Effective principals are able to create a positive school climate, implement participatory leadership strategies, and build synergy among teachers, parents, and external stakeholders. In conclusion, the improvement of early childhood education quality is strongly influenced by the managerial capacity of school principals, which includes a range of strategic roles in educational management. Therefore, ongoing training and capacity building for principals are essential efforts in developing the overall quality of early childhood education institutions. Abstract

The ongoing conflict between the central Thai government and the predominantly Muslim provinces of Southern Thailand, particularly Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat, has significantly impacted various sectors, including education. The ethnic and religious divisions inherent in this conflict have posed challenges to implementing educational policies. This study explores how local elite politics influence the integration of Islamic education and the national curriculum in these conflict-prone areas. A qualitative case study approach was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis to gather data from key stakeholders, including school leaders, policymakers, and educators. The findings reveal that despite efforts to incorporate religious and secular curricula, local educational systems face persistent challenges in maintaining balance amidst the broader socio-political tensions. This study also highlights the role of local elite politics in shaping educational policies, particularly in the context of religious and cultural identity. It underscores the need for more flexible and culturally inclusive educational policies that not only meet national standards but also respect the unique cultural and religious needs of the Muslim community in Southern Thailand. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on the intersection of local politics, education, and conflict in a qualitative context, offering new insights into how education can be leveraged as a tool for peacebuilding and social cohesion in conflict-affected regions.
