Abstract

Increasing demand for Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) presents a promising opportunity to improve the economy in Indonesia. Various methods for VCO production have been explored to optimize yield and ensure desirable organoleptic and physicochemical qualities. Modifying the oil extraction process often necessitates costly equipment. In this study, VCO was extracted by combining the chilling-thawing method with the addition of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from blondo. The process began with the isolation and characterization of LAB isolates, followed by the application of the chilling-thawing method and addition of 2% LAB starter, then assessed for their consumer preference through a questionnaire. This innovative process yielded VCO at a rate of 35.78-46.65% using three LAB isolates (BAL 1-3) from blondo samples, representing an improvement over previous studies employing similar methodologies. Moreover, hedonic evaluation revealed a higher consumer preference for LAB-treated VCO compared to the control, further highlighting the effectiveness of LAB treatment in combination with the chilling-thawing method.

Abstract

Abstract. This quasi-experimental study evaluated the effect of STEM-based biology instruction supported by Virtual Lab Gizmos on students’ cognitive learning outcomes across academic ability levels. Sixty Grade-12 science students at a senior high school participated in a four-week intervention and were randomly assigned to experimental (STEM + Gizmos, n = 30) and control (contextual learning, n = 30) classes. Cognitive outcomes were measured with a validated 25-item test (Cronbach’s α = .89). Two-way ANCOVA controlling for pretest scores revealed significant main effects of learning approach (F = 62.67, p < .001) and academic ability (F = 179.95, p < .001), and a significant interaction (F = 4.19, p = .026). Post hoc LSD comparisons showed adjusted means of 92.00 (STEM-high), 86.33 (STEM-low), 82.17 (contextual-high), and 75.83 (contextual-low), indicating larger gains in the STEM + Gizmos groups. These results suggest that integrating STEM pedagogy with virtual laboratory simulations can substantially improve conceptual mastery and reduce achievement gaps. Future research should test longer interventions and diverse school contexts. Keywords: STEM learning; Virtual Lab Gizmos; cognitive outcomes; academic ability; biology education.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Good Corporate Governance (GCG) on market response, with corporate reputation as a moderating variable. The research focuses on property sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2020–2023 period, using a purposive sample of 13 firms. A quantitative approach is employed, applying multiple linear regression and moderated regression analysis (MRA) to test both direct and interaction effects. CSR is measured based on disclosures aligned with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) indicators and Financial Services Authority (POJK) regulations, while GCG is proxied by managerial ownership. Market response is assessed using cumulative abnormal return (CAR), and corporate reputation is evaluated through indicators of public visibility and corporate image. The findings reveal that CSR has a positive and significant effect on market response, indicating that social responsibility disclosures provide favorable signals to investors. Conversely, GCG does not significantly influence market response, suggesting that governance mechanisms have not yet become a primary consideration for investors in the property sector. Corporate reputation is found to strengthen the relationship between CSR and market response, but it does not moderate the relationship between GCG and market response. These results highlight the strategic role of corporate reputation in enhancing the market impact of CSR activities. The study contributes to the development of legitimacy and agency theories in the Indonesian capital market and provides practical implications for companies, regulators, and investors in integrating non-financial information into investment and governance decisions

Abstract

Oyster mushrooms are widely consumed as part of daily food, similar to green vegetables. They contain beta-glucan fiber, antioxidants, and nutrients that support heart health, immunity, cognitive function, blood sugar control, and reduced cancer risk. These benefits encouraged Mr. Asmari to develop an oyster mushroom processing business. This community service activity evaluates the feasibility of the business based on four main aspects. From the engineering and production aspect, the business location is accessible, and electricity and water are adequate. The mushroom house is suitable, with proper shelves, ventilation, wide access doors, and sufficient lighting. However, production capacity has dropped significantly from about 1 kg to around 100 grams per baglog, indicating reduced productivity. In the aspect of organizational management and human resources, the number of workers is limited, and all production stages depend on minimal labor, so this aspect is considered not feasible. From the market and marketing aspect, products reach several schools and traditional markets, and product innovations match consumer preferences, although the market area remains small. Financial analysis also shows infeasibility, indicated by a payback period of more than five years, negative NPV, an IRR below the 30 percent standard, and a profitability index under 1.
