Abstract

This experimental research aims to characterize the complex compound M-curcumin (M=Cu, Co, Ag) based on turmeric (Curcuma longa Linn) rhizome as a candidate for photosensitizer in solar cells. The basic material used for manufacturing the M-curcumin complex compound in this study was curcumin from turmeric rhizome extract added to Cu2+, Co2+, and Ag+ metal ions. The results of the synthesis of the M-curcumin complex were characterized by FTIR and Uv-Vis spectrophotometers. The FTIR spectrophotometer test showed a curcumin compound in the viscous curcumin extract, characterized by an absorption wave number corresponding to the curcumin compound. In the M-curcumin complex, the bond between the metal and the ligand only appears in the Co-curcumin complex at the absorption number of 498.77 cm -1. The results of the UV-Vis spectrophotometer test showed that the maximum wavelength absorption in curcumin extract was 430 nm (abs = 0.688), Cu-Curcumin complex lmax 300 nm (abs = 2.573), Co-curcumin complex lmax 425 nm (abs = 1.067), and complex Ag-Curcumin lmax 430 nm (abs = 1.36). The UV-Vis and FTIR characterization showed that the Co-curcumin complex has good potential compared to the organic compounds (curcumin) and can be used as an alternative photosensitizer in solar cells

Abstract

In a competitive business environment, financial management decisions such as funding decisions, investment decisions, and dividend policies are key elements that influence a company's operational efficiency and financial performance. However, the direct impact of these decisions is often complex, involving mediating variables such as Economic Value Added (EVA). EVA measures the economic value added generated by a company after accounting for the cost of capital, where a positive EVA value indicates strong performance. Despite its importance, research explicitly exploring the relationship between EVA, financial management decisions, and financial performance is limited. This study aims to evaluate the simultaneous and partial effects of financial management decisions on financial performance and EVA, as well as the mediating role of EVA. This study uses an exploratory and survey-based approach with secondary data taken from the financial statements of 150 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2014 to 2017. A total of 37 companies were selected by purposive sampling and analyzed using SPSS and path analysis. The results showed that EVA is not significantly influenced by financial management decisions, either partially or simultaneously. Financial performance is partially influenced by funding and investment decisions but not significantly by EVA. In addition, EVA does not mediate the relationship between financial management decisions and financial performance. These findings indicate that although EVA provides insight into value creation, its role as a mediator in financial decision making is limited. The implications of this study are important for the development of theory and practice of corporate financial management.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the factors that influence Generation Z's interest in saving at Islamic banks. Generation Z, born between the mid-1990s to the early 2010s, has been in the spotlight for their unique financial behavior and tendency to use technology in their financial transactions. In this context, Islamic financial literacy, religiosity, and lifestyle are considered as key factors that might influence their interest in saving in Islamic banks. This research uses a quantitative approach, using a simple random sampling method in taking samples. The number of samples in this research was 80 generation Z in Lumajang Regency. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this research show that sharia financial literacy and religiosity have a significant effect on generation Z's interest in saving at sharia banks. However, lifestyle does not have a significant effect on generation Z's interest in saving at Sharia Banks. The coefficient of determination in this study was 79%, this shows that sharia financial literacy and religiosity have an important role in generation Z's interest in saving at Sharia Banks in Lumajang Regency. Meanwhile, Generation Z's lifestyle does not prevent them from saving at Sharia Bank.

Abstract

Increasing demand for Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) presents a promising opportunity to improve the economy in Indonesia. Various methods for VCO production have been explored to optimize yield and ensure desirable organoleptic and physicochemical qualities. Modifying the oil extraction process often necessitates costly equipment. In this study, VCO was extracted by combining the chilling-thawing method with the addition of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from blondo. The process began with the isolation and characterization of LAB isolates, followed by the application of the chilling-thawing method and addition of 2% LAB starter, then assessed for their consumer preference through a questionnaire. This innovative process yielded VCO at a rate of 35.78-46.65% using three LAB isolates (BAL 1-3) from blondo samples, representing an improvement over previous studies employing similar methodologies. Moreover, hedonic evaluation revealed a higher consumer preference for LAB-treated VCO compared to the control, further highlighting the effectiveness of LAB treatment in combination with the chilling-thawing method.

Abstract

The critical thinking skills (CTS) of students with different academic abilities is still low. Therefore, STEM-based biology learning assisted by virtual lab gizmos can be implemented to improve students' CTS. This study aims to determine whether STEM-based biology learning assisted by virtual lab gizmos can enhance students' CTS with different academic abilities. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The population consisted of twelfth-grade science students from SMA Negeri 3 Bantaeng. The sample was selected using simple random sampling, with a total of 60 students divided into two learning groups: XII MIPA 1 and XII MIPA 2. Data collection techniques included a CTS skills test. Data analysis was conducted using two-way analysis of covariance. The results showed STEM-based biology learning asissted by the virtual lab gizmos significantly enhances students' CTS, with a significance value of 0.00 0.05. Additionally, the study reveals that academic abilities also influences students' CTS. Furthermore, there is an interaction effect between STEM-based learning with the virtual lab gizmos and academic abilities on students' CTS. Further post hoc LSD analysis shows that STEM-based biology learning with the virtual lab gizmos is more effective in improving students' CTS across different academic abilities compared to contextual learning without the virtual lab gizmos. These findings suggest that STEM-based biology learning supported by the virtual lab gizmos can serve as an effective teaching strategy to enhance students' CTS, particularly in addressing the challenges of 21st-century education
