Abstract

This research was motivated by various environmental damages that occurred around Seraya village, Karangasem, Bali. Many factors of damage are caused by human actions such as illegal logging of forests and trees, indifference of the community to their dirty environment, and so on. This study aims to examine the use and impact of saput poleng on environmental sustainability and the effectiveness of saput poleng in the formation of ecological citizenship in Balinese indigenous communities. This type of research uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. Data analysis uses data reduction, data analysis and verification or conclusion. Environmental conservation efforts by using saput poleng on certain trees create a mystical impression and can prevent intentions and behaviors to protect the existence of trees and support beautiful and sustainable environmental conditions. The results showed that the use of saput poleng on trees is not a fad, but has philosophical and religious values that are highly adhered to by the local community. The habit of pairing saput poleng is able to preserve trees, the environment and is very effective in forming ecological citizenship. Keywords: Ecological citizenship, indigenous Balinese, saput poleng

STEM education can help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity from an early age This research aims to implement a STEM-integrated module infused with Wasaka character values to internalize the Wasaka character in students. The Wasaka character, comprising religiousness, resilience, responsibility, and independence, is vital for fostering holistic development. The study utilizes a one-group pre-test-post-test design with pre-test and post-test evaluations to measure the effectiveness of the module in enhancing character development. Data were collected through observations and questionnaires. The results indicate a significant improvement in the internalization of Wasaka character traits following the implementation of the module. The findings suggest that integrating STEM education with local cultural values can effectively contribute to character building. This study highlights the importance of culturally relevant education in shaping students' character.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Tuesday Literacy (SERASI) program at SMP Negeri 4 Lembang on the development of critical thinking and strengthening of students' civic skills through a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection was conducted using interview techniques, observation, and documentation with teachers and students. The results of the study indicate that the SERASI program is implemented through structured stages of independent reading, presentations, discussions, and reflection. These stages have proven effective in training students' abilities to focus on problems, construct logical arguments, and draw conclusions. The development of civic intellectual skills and civic participation skills is achieved in an integrated manner through the practice of analyzing social issues, deliberation, and the courage to voice opinions democratically. Operational obstacles such as academic anxiety and sanction-based pseudo-compliance were still found during the implementation. The findings of this study confirm the strategic function of the SERASI program as a significant contextual learning medium for shaping a culture of literacy while preparing critical, intelligent, and democratic citizens.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze criminality from a social perspective by examining the structural factors that influence the formation of criminal behavior. The study employs a literature review approach, identifying and synthesizing relevant scientific literature to explore the relationships among economic conditions, family dynamics, education, and the social environment in shaping criminal activity. The findings indicate that criminality is not merely the result of individual choice, but rather a consequence of complex interactions among various social factors, such as economic inequality, family disorganization, limited access to education, and weak social control within communities. Unstable social structures and low levels of social cohesion are shown to increase individuals’ vulnerability to engaging in criminal behavior. The study concludes that understanding and addressing criminality requires a multidimensional approach that strengthens social structures, rather than relying solely on law enforcement measures.

Abstract

As social beings, humans need morals to organize their lives for the better. Morals can be shaped through parental upbringing and education at school. The formation of morals in each individual is not merely a rational act, but aims to develop human behavior that is conscious of ethics, empathy, and wisdom. One way to shape morals is through moral education aimed at the general public and academics. To develop such morality, Pancasila is used as a foundation. The implementation of moral education based on Pancasila, as emphasized in this study, is achieved through various means such as curriculum, extracurricular activities, learning models, teacher role modeling, and parental role modeling. The values of Pancasila serve as a strong foundation in shaping the morality of the younger generation in today's digital era. Referring to the literature, this article is expected to serve as a reference for universities, schools, and organizations discussing moral education in line with the practice of Pancasila values. For universities, moral education based on Pancasila serves as a platform for developing noble character. For schools, moral education based on Pancasila helps students develop the ability to process emotions and thoughts to distinguish between what is good and what is bad. For organizations, moral education based on Pancasila strengthens understanding of integrity, ethics, and good governance within an organizational context.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has changed the way people obtain and disseminate information through social media. Instagram has become one of the platforms that greatly influences the formation of public opinion through visual content, information distribution algorithms, and hashtag features. Students, as digital natives, have a high intensity of social media usage, making them more exposed to issues developing in digital spaces. One phenomenon that has attracted public attention is the emergence of the hashtag #IndonesiaGelap, which often contains critical narratives regarding public policies, including the management of educational funding. This study aims to determine the influence of Instagram posts containing the hashtag #IndonesiaGelap on the perceptions of students at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia regarding the efficiency of educational funding. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method involving 1,000 students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using closed-ended questionnaires with a Likert scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression to examine the relationship between exposure to Instagram posts and students’ perceptions. The results showed that posts containing the hashtag #IndonesiaGelap had a significant and negative influence on students’ perceptions of educational funding efficiency. This finding was supported by a t-value of -23.572 with a significance level of 0.000 (<0.05). The regression equation Y = 44.897 - 0.679X indicates that the higher the exposure to the content, the lower the students’ positive perception of educational funding efficiency. This study highlights the importance of digital literacy so that students can understand information critically and objectively.

Abstract

Urban ecological crises demand a citizenship approach that goes beyond normative compliance and emphasizes citizens' ecological responsibility in public spaces. In Bandung City, the achievement of green open space (GOS) in 2020 reached only 12.25% of the total city area, far below the minimum requirement of 30%. This issue is not only structural but also cultural, as reflected in low citizen participation and the dominant perception of parks merely as recreational spaces. This article analyzes how Bandung City residents construct the functions of GOS parks and the role of Civic Education (PKn) in fostering ecological citizenship through citizen participation. The research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach, using field observation, in-depth interviews, and policy documentation. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, display, and verification. The research results indicate that citizens' social construction of GOS remains oriented toward social-recreational purposes and has not yet been fully internalized as an ecological obligation. The novelty of this research lies in conceptualizing GOS as a civic learning space that connects the social construction of public space with ecological citizenship within a Civic Education perspective. These findings strengthen the argument that strengthening Civic Education based on local GOS issues contributes significantly to the sustainability of city parks.
