Abstract

The social support is increasingly accepted as an important factor that influences the wellness of a human being, particularly people with chronic diseases. This study translates and validates the quantitative questionnaire that has been developed and has been widely accepted across cultures, namely the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The study was initially performed by translating the original questionnaire using forward and backward translation methods. Thirty cancer patients from Margono public hospital Purwokerto, Indonesia were conveniently included to evaluate the transleted questionmaire’s cconvergent, discriminant validity. Furthermore, 45 cancer patients were included in the main study which evaluate the level of social support among cancer patients. According to factor analysis, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy showed that the results is valid (0.668) while the Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity also showed that the number of samples were adequate (0.668) and eligible for factor analysis. The Measures of Sampling adequacy from each question was considerably higher than 0.5 and therefore there were no translated question that has to be removed in the analysis. There were 3 out of 12 factors that was included with the total variance of 81.166%. The Pearson’s correlation and Cronbach Alpha tests showed that discriminant validity and reliability test of the translated questionnaire were valid (>0.400) and reliable (>0.700) questionnaire. The translated version of the MSPSS was considerably a valid and reliable questionnaire to evaluate the level of social support for cancer patients in Indonesia.

Abstract

A bibliometric analysis was conducted to assess the interest and significance of research on the Health Belief Model. The bibliographical information provides insights into the Health Belief Model concerning parents of children receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. As of January 25, 2023, data for the study were obtained from the Scopus database. Our analysis identified 876 articles with the keywords: Health Belief Model, Parents, and COVID-19 Vaccine. Articles were exclusively selected in English, and the analysis was performed using the R Studio 4.2.2 application for Bibliometric Analysis. China hosts the top five most productive authors, with Peking University contributing the highest number of articles (66 in total). The Vaccines Journal emerges as the primary publisher, while the majority of collaborative research on COVID-19 involves authors from the United States. Frequently used keywords include Human, Female, Male, Adult, COVID-19, and Article. The increasing trend in Health Belief Model articles related to the COVID-19 vaccine from 2020 to 2023 underscores the widespread interest in and appeal of this subject for discussion. Given the study's limitation, including only publications released before January 25, 2023, it is plausible that some more recent publications were unintentionally overlooked.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a disorder characterized by abnormal behavior, impaired thinking, disorganized speech, and a reduced ability to perceive reality. One of the key factors influencing the success of schizophrenia therapy is patient adherence. Pharmacy plays a crucial role in the treatment of schizophrenia patients. This study aimed to determine the effect of pharmacist counseling on drug adherence of schizophrenia patients from the first month to the second month. The method used in this study was a one-group pre-test and post-test design that used quasi-experimental research. The subjects of this study were schizophrenia patients in the outpatient installation of Prof.Dr.Soerojo Mental Hospital, Magelang. This study used the Medication Adherence Rating Scale (MARS) questionnaire to measure the level of adherence and drug use monitoring sheet (pill count) to monitor the amount of patient medication. The population in this study was calculated using the Lameshow formula. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test and the Wilcoxon test. After analyzing data of 108 patients, it was found that there was a significant difference between before and after counseling conducted by pharmacists on medication adherence in schizophrenia patients, with a significance value of p <0.05. Counseling conducted by pharmacists has a good impact on patient medication adherence and monitoring the amount of medication taken. These results indicate the effect of counseling conducted by pharmacists on adherence to taking medication and the monitoring of the amount of medication taken by patients.

Abstract

Cancer has been a global health issue. In 2018, cases related to cancer reached 18.1 million and the number of cancer-related deaths was 9.6 million. Pharmacists, play a crucial role in preventing and addressing Drug-Related Problems (DRPs) through pharmaceutical services. This research aims to examine the overview of Drug-Related Problems (DRPs) in inpatient cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and to define the pharmacist's interventions regarding DRPs in cancer patients at RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang. This study employed a retrospective data collection approach. The materials were obtained from pharmacist prescription reviews and the medical records of cancer inpatients undergoing chemotherapy in January 2022. The classification of Drug-Related Problems (DRPs) followed PCNE V9.1 guidelines. A total of 239 DRPs were identified. The main issues were related to treatment effectiveness (44%), treatment safety (43.9%), and others (12.1%). Common causes of DRPs included dosing selection (63.7%), drug selection (28.4%), and treatment duration (0.4%). Pharmacists' interventions were carried out at the prescription writing level in 376 cases (61.4%) and at the drug utilization level in 294 cases (38.6%). The verification of prescriptions by clinical pharmacists before drug preparation is a crucial step to reduce the potential occurrence of DRPs

Abstract

Vaccination has proven effective in preventing HBV transmission and reducing related health burdens. This study aimed to systematically review the long-term effectiveness of the hepatitis B vaccine following primary vaccination. A literature search was conducted using PubMed, ProQuest, and the Cochrane Library following PRISMA guidelines. Keywords included "effectiveness," "hepatitis B," "HBV," "HepB," "vaccine," "vaccination," "immunization," "immune memory," "seroprotection," and "birth dose." Of 555 articles initially identified, nine met the inclusion criteria. Results showed that the duration of protection after primary vaccination ranges from 5 to 25 years, with an average seroprotection rate of 83.5%. Vaccination is vital for newborns, regardless of maternal HBV status, and healthcare professionals play a key role in promoting early immunization. Monitoring anti-HBs antibody levels is also recommended to assess the need for booster doses, which may help prevent HBV transmission and further reduce morbidity and mortality.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is currently one of the global health threats. The prevalence and incidence of this disease continue to increase, both in industrialised and developing countries, including Indonesia. There are different types of DM marker gene polymorphisms in each racial group. These genetic variations contribute to the response of oral antidiabetic drugs. This article aims to conduct a narrative review of the influence of gene polymorphisms on oral antidiabetic drug response in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Article searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Wiley published from 2014 to 2024. From the screening, 30 articles met the criteria. The articles reported various gene polymorphisms associated with the efficacy of oral antidiabetic therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. In patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with certain gene variations, there was no significant decrease in HbA1c values after taking medication. Gene polymorphisms may affect the pharmacokinetics of oral antidiabetics and therapeutic response in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract

Chemotherapy is a type cancer treatment that uses anticancer drugs to inhibit cell division and kill cancer cells. Chemotherapy can cause side effect due to normal cells damages. The study aimed to investigate the use of antiemetic prophylaxis as premedication to prevent or reduce side effects on cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. It was a observational study with retrospective design using medical records data of cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy in a hospital in Yogyakarta Special Region during May – September 2022. The results showed the cancer patients were dominated by women (85.71%) with ages 46-65 yr (63.27%) and stage III cancer (87.76%). There were 18 types of anticancer drugs and the most widely used drugs were doxorubicin 60 mg for the moderate emetogenic category and vinorelbine 37.5 mg for the low emetogenic category. The most widely used premedication regimen was a combination granisetron 3 mg, ondansetron 8 mg, and dexamethasone 10 mg regimen (72.45%). This combination was most often used for the cancer patients with the moderate emetogenic category (39 patients or 49.4%). However, not all the cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy with the low and moderate emetogenic anticancer drugs were administered the premedication. In conclusion, doxorubicin and vinorelbine are the most widely used for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in the hospital. In addition, a combination of granisetron, ondansetron, and dexamethasone is widely used as premedication.

Abstract

Lung cancer has the highest mortality rate of all cancers. In its advanced stages, this disease is associated with poor survival rates and quality of life. The most common subtype of lung cancer is adenocarcinoma which is frequently associated with mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a protein crucialfor cell proliferation. The presence of EGFR mutations plays a key role in targeted therapy using tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). Afatinib is a second-generation TKI that offers several advantages over the first-generation. Afatinib is effective against complex and uncommon EGFR mutations, making it a commonly usedoption for patients with lung adenocarcinoma. However, afatinib is also associated with a higher incidence of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) compared to other TKIs, which may impact therapeutic outcomes. This study aimed to assess the quality of life (QoL) of advanced lung adenocarcinoma patients with EGFR mutations andthe prevalence of ADRs associated with afatinib treatment at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital in Yogyakarta. The study employed an observational cross-sectional design. Prospective data collection was conducted for two months, from January to February 2025 at the Oncology Department following ethical approval. A totalof 15 patients were enrolled in this study. The most commonly identified ADRs were acne (45%), diarrhea (20%), paronychia (20%), and oral mucositis (15%). The mean QoL scores was 81.38 ± 10.01 for the functional scale, 15.93 ± 8.48 for the symptom scale, and 72.78 ± 19.53 for global health status.
