Abstract

The problem faced by our society today is the accumulation of cow feces and palm fronds which are solid biomass waste produced throughout the year by oil palm plantations and livestock businesses. One of the utilization and processing of these two biomass wastes is to make charcoal briquettes as an alternative fuel. Charcoal briquettes have advantages because they have high economic value compared to wood charcoal, higher calorific value, odorless, attractive shape and durable. This dissemination activity is in addition to empowering the community in the application of appropriate waste treatment technology innovations, as well as providing an alternative for developing creative economic potential for the people of Majemus Village, Masni District, Manokwari Regency. The method of implementing this activity is participatory counseling, practice or training and mentoring, so that the product can be continuously produced and ready to be marketed. The manufacture of charcoal briquettes starts from the stages of drying the main raw materials, composing of raw materials, grinding, mixing materials with adhesives, printing briquettes, drying briquettes again, quality testing, and packaging. The final results of the activities carried out showed that (1) they succeeded in disseminating effective and simple innovations in livestock and plantation waste treatment technology and applied in the field, (2) training participants or members of partner groups were involved and played an active role in all activities ranging from counseling to training on practice and training, (3) charcoal briquettes produced SNI standard that will renewable energy source for everyday necessities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process and results of improving students' mathematical abilities in solving contextual problems through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach. The PBL model is designed to develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills through problems relevant to the real world. The TaRL approach is integrated to accommodate the heterogeneity of students' levels of understanding through identifying individual needs and providing guidance. The Kemmis and McTaggart Classroom Action Research (CAR) model was carried out for two cycles. The subjects of the study were 32 students in the second grade of senior high school in Surabaya. Data collection techniques included contextual problem-solving ability tests (descriptions) and participatory observations using teacher and student observation sheets. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively to calculate the average class score and percentage of learning completion. Minimum competency achievement is 75. Qualitative data were analyzed to describe the quality of the learning process. The results showed a significant increase. In cycle 1, the average class score reached 85.47 (good category) with a completion of 84.38%. The improvement continued in cycle 2, where the average value increased to 89.12 (Very Good category) and completion reached 93.75%. The novelty of this research lies in integrating the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model with the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach, a combination rarely used to simultaneously improve students' problem-solving abilities and address differences in learning levels within the same class.

Abstract

Accurate assessment of nurse performance is essential to improving healthcare quality, patient outcomes, and organizational effectiveness. Despite the development of various performance appraisal instruments, concerns persist regarding their validity, reliability, fairness, and alignment with clinical practice. This systematic review, conducted following PRISMA guidelines, analyzed studies published between 2020 and 2025 from PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and Sage Journals that discussed the development, evaluation, or implementation of nurse performance appraisal tools. From 226 identified articles, 13 met the inclusion criteria. The instruments reviewed ranged from self-assessment and peer/supervisor evaluation to empowerment-based and theoretically grounded models such as self-efficacy and the balanced scorecard. Findings revealed that most instruments positively influenced job satisfaction, empowerment, organizational commitment, and patient outcomes. However, persistent challenges include subjectivity, inconsistent benchmarks, limited validation, and poor communication between appraisers and appraisees. Instruments integrating multiple perspectives and theoretical foundations demonstrated greater comprehensiveness and acceptance. Therefore, future development should prioritize standardization, validity, reliability, fairness, and alignment with organizational goals, positioning performance appraisal as a strategic mechanism to enhance nursing performance and healthcare quality rather than merely an administrative requirement.
