Abstract

Abstract

Nurses represent the largest proportion of healthcare professionals in hospitals (40–60%) and are entrusted with the continuous implementation of patient fall prevention measures. Accordingly, they hold a critical role in influencing the success of hospital accreditation.

Abstract

There were 9,162,886 cases of depression with a prevalence of 3.7 percent among Indonesian adolescents. However, there is no specific intervention to prevent and overcome this problem, especially in the field of mental health promotion. This study aims to determine the effect of health education through virtual classes on anxiety and depression on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescents in Ketapang Regency. The method used was quasi experimental pre and post with control and intervention groups. The population in this study were high school/equivalent adolescents in Ketapang Regency with a total sample of 80 divided into 40 control groups and 40 intervention groups. The variable used is help-seeking behavior. The intervention used is a Virtual Class involving 2 professional experts in the field of adolescent mental health. The intervention was carried out 2 times in a duration of 14 days. Before the intervention, a pretest test was conducted. The media used are cellphones, laptops or gadgets that can operate Zoom Meeting. Analysis of results using univariate, bivariate and multivariate tests with the help of the SPSS version 25.0 application. The results of the analysis showed that there were differences in behavior in respondents before and after the intervention in the intervention group. The behavior variable of the intervention group before and after the intervention has a significance value of 0.000 with the Wilcoxon test, which means that there is a difference in value after the intervention. There was an improvement in behavior. Overall, the behavior of the intervention group has increased compared to the control group which tends to stagnate. After the Spearmann correlation analysis test was carried out, the results of the behavior variable were found to be 0.008 with a correlation coefficient of 0.416. These results indicate that in the behavior variable there is a fairly good relationship. Virtual classes for high school teenagers in Ketapang improve behavior and have a fairly close relationship.

Abstract

Background: Smoking is a leading cause of non-communicable diseases and remains a significant public health challenge, particularly among children and adolescents in Asia, where prevalence rates are high. This behavior is influenced by a complex interplay of individual traits, interpersonal relationships, and broader social-environmental factors. Understanding these influences is crucial for developing effective interventions to reduce smoking among youth. Objectives: This study aimed to identify and map the key factors influencing smoking behavior among Asian children and adolescents, providing insights into potential strategies for targeted interventions.  Methods: A scoping review was conducted through systematic searches of the Scopus and ScienceDirect databases using keywords related to smoking among Asian youth. From an initial pool of 312 articles, four met the inclusion criteria for in-depth analysis. Thematic analysis categorized influencing factors into individual, interpersonal, and socio-environmental domains. Results: The review identified three main categories of factors. Individual factors included age, gender, and curiosity, which often trigger initial smoking. Interpersonal influences such as peer pressure and family members who smoke played a significant role. Social and environmental factors, including exposure to tobacco advertising, easy access to cigarettes, and weak regulatory frameworks, further increased smoking risks. These factors frequently interacted, compounding their impact on youth smoking behaviors. Conclusion: Addressing smoking among Asian youth requires comprehensive strategies that encompass education, regulation, and family involvement. School-based programs, social media campaigns, stricter laws, and family-focused interventions are essential to reduce smoking prevalence and foster healthier generations.

Abstract

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension have become significant global health challenges. One of the main factors contributing to this problem is the high consumption of packaged foods and beverages with excessive sugar, fat, and sodium content. Nutrition information labels have been identified as an effective strategy to raise awareness and encourage healthier consumption behavior change. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of various nutrition information labeling systems, including Front-of-Pack Labeling (FOPL) such as Nutri-Score, Nutri-Grade, Health Star Rating, and warning-based labels, in improving consumer awareness, understanding, and consumption behavior. Methods: A scoping review was conducted using thirteen journals selected based on PRISMA guidelines, focusing on awareness, understanding, and changes in consumption behavior. Results: Intuitive visual labels increased consumer awareness by 75% and reduced sugar consumption by 1.51 grams per serving. Warning-based labels reduced purchases of unhealthy products by 17%. Conclusions: Effective nutrition labeling should adopt clear visual formats and be supported by public education. Further policy recommendations include integrating labeling with education campaigns and additional regulations, such as sugar taxes, to strengthen the long-term impact on healthier consumption patterns.

Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 134 million adverse events occur annually in hospitals in low- and middle-income countries, contributing to an estimated 2.6 million deaths. Patient falls remain one of the most frequent preventable safety incidents in hospital settings. This study aimed to analyze behavioral and organizational factors influencing nurses in implementing the International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG), particularly in fall risk prevention. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed. The study population consisted of 1,125 nurses at Hospital X, and 290 nurses were selected as the research sample using proportionate stratified random sampling based on the Lemeshow formula. Data were analyzed using Chi-square and multiple logistic regression tests. The results showed significant associations (p < 0.05) between knowledge, attitude, facilities and infrastructure, regulations, coworker support, leadership support, and IPSG implementation. A total of 63.8% of nurses demonstrated good IPSG implementation. Multivariate analysis identified facilities and infrastructure as the most dominant factor (p = 0.0001; OR = 4.562; 95% CI = 2.289–9.094), indicating that adequate facilities increased the likelihood of proper IPSG implementation by 4.562 times compared to inadequate facilities. In conclusion, strengthening structural readiness particularly ensuring adequate safety facilities is essential to improve IPSG implementation in fall risk prevention. However, the cross-sectional design limits causal interpretation, and self-reported data may not fully reflect actual clinical practice Keywords: International Patient Safety Goals Implementation, Fall Risk, Nurse Behaviour
