Abstract

Assessments that are generally carried out by teachers usually only focus on cognitive aspects, whereas assessments of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects also need to be carried out. This study aims to develop a performance assessment instrument. Performance assessment is a form of authentic assessment that aims to improve learning and provide constructive feedback to teachers and students. Although it has many benefits, performance assessments are rarely carried out by teachers during learning due to the teacher's limitations in creating performance assessment instruments. Performance assessments can be in the form of product assessments and practice assessments. The research method used follows the PRISMA guidelines, namely by selecting articles from Google Search and Google Scholar. The results of the study showed that out of 121 articles, 9 articles met the criteria for further review. In conclusion, research on the development of performance assessments, especially in the field of chemistry, needs to be further developed. This has implications for the need for more effective developmental performance assessment instruments, especially in Indonesia, so that they can meet the needs of the current education curriculum.

Abstract

Higher education plays a strategic role in shaping character and providing learning experiences to acquire knowledge through effective learning by developing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The implementation of the merdeka belajar-kampus merdeka (MBKM) curriculum requires integration with local wisdom values to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) through the development of 8 key competencies for sustainability. This research aims to analyze the implementation of environmental science lectures and measure the level of achievement of the 8 key competencies for sustainability among science education students in West Papua. Using a mixed methods approach, the research involves 30 seventh-semester students and one lecturer who teaches the course. Data collection methods include document studies, field observations, competency measurement using standardized instruments, and semi-structured interviews. Researchers analyze the data descriptively, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Analysis shows variations in the achievement of sustainability competencies, with the highest value in systems thinking competency (70.95) and the lowest in anticipatory competency (53.45). A gap exists in the implementation of learning, which does not optimally integrate local wisdom and the development of sustainability competencies. Therefore, developing an integrated curriculum considering the local context of West Papua, improving teacher capacity, and strengthening strategic partnerships are necessary to enhance the effectiveness of learning in developing the sustainability competencies of Science Education students

Abstract

Science education aims to convey science to students so that science can be transmitted according to its nature. Various scientific studies have been conducted to develop better teaching strategies. The research was conducted with the principle of the scientific method, experimental research design. In principle, it aims to test a treatment of research objects. In educational research, the tested treatment or learning model will be applied to the experimental group while the control group will not receive the additional treatment. Methodologically, the design is certainly in accordance with the purpose of the hypothesis. However, this will certainly be contradictive to ethical issues if the involved research objects are humans. The principle of fairness needs to be considered between the experimental group and the control group. It is guaranteed that all participants receive the same benefits. Therefore, it is necessary to study the ethical aspects of experimental research design in science education.

Abstract

Assessment had a significant influence on students’ learning processes. Assessment needed to continuously align with instruction and existing learning objectives. The goal of science education was to help students develop thinking skills to solve problems in everyday life. This study aimed to analyse the need for an integrated assessment of chemical literacy and critical thinking based on a literature review and empirical data. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method, grounded in a systematic literature review and an empirical field study involving chemistry teachers and high school students studying chemistry subject. The results indicated that the development of integrated assessment test could address the demands of 21st century education, teachers generally recognised the importance of chemical literacy and critical thinking in learning, but still had limitations in utilising appropriate assessment test, and many students still struggled to relate chemistry to everyday life, so their critical thinking skills to address chemical problems in real contexts were not practised through existing test items. These findings highlighted the need to develop an integrated assessment of chemical literacy and critical thinking that not only measured students’ understanding of chemistry concepts but also developed analytical skills to analyse and apply chemical knowledge in real-life situations.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the integration of education for sustainable development (ESD) values in climate change education (CCE) (CCESD) from an epistemological perspective, namely focusing on history and the development of those knowledges; and an axiological perspective, namely the values that build it. The research was carried out qualitatively using a literature study method, where all documents used as data sources were reading material that discussed "education for sustainable development", "climate change education", "epistemology", and "axiology". The results of the study show that ESD and CCE grow together from human anxiety about an uncertain future due to various problems with long-term impacts, such as climate change. Therefore, both aim to form a prosperous society and intergenerational justice. The two main characteristics of ESD values integrated in CCE are interdisciplinary integration and temporal connection between the past, present and future. In teaching ESD in CCE or CCESD, it is recommended to emphasize some key competencies of ESD: systems thinking competency, critical thinking competency, collaborative competency, integrative problem-solving competency, and anticipatory competency.

Abstract

The conceptual readiness of pre-service chemistry teachers regarding chemical bonding plays a crucial role in supporting pedagogical competence and deep content understanding. This study aims to analyze the level of students’ conceptual readiness in understanding chemical bonding concepts using a three-tier diagnostic test. A qualitative research method with a descriptive approach was employed, involving 27 students from the chemistry education program at a private university in North Sumatra. The results indicate that most students are at a partial understanding level, with a dominance of misconceptions particularly in concepts such as ionic bonding, compound polarity, and valence bond theory. These findings highlight the urgent need to strengthen pedagogical strategies and enhance instructional design to improve conceptual literacy and prepare future teachers to face the challenges of 21st-century science education. The study recommends the integration of diagnostic assessment into teacher education curricula to support the development of chemistry instruction that is conceptually grounded and sustainability-oriented.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the Microteaching course program in the Physics Education Study Program using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model and to analyze the role of digital technology in enhancing prospective teachers’ teaching readiness. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, analysis of the course syllabus (RPS), and video documentation of Microteaching practices. Participants consisted of 19 seventh-semester students, one course instructor, and the Head of the Study Program. The Context evaluation showed that all components of the course syllabus were available and that there was a 100% alignment among Program Learning Outcomes (CPL), Course Learning Outcomes (CPMK), and course content. Regarding Input, students demonstrated good academic prerequisites, as indicated by 90% of them obtaining an A in the Physics Lesson Planning course; however, only 21.1% owned relevant textbooks, and facilities such as a dedicated Microteaching room and documentation equipment still require improvement. The Process evaluation revealed that 100% of students used technology in their Microteaching practices, particularly through presentation media, virtual simulations, and instructional videos, and some of them utilized artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support lesson planning. The Product evaluation indicated that most students achieved high final grades in the Microteaching course and reported positive perceptions of its contribution to their teaching readiness. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening students’ digital literacy, providing adequate facilities specifically designed for Microteaching, and systematically training teaching skills that integrate digital technology in order to further optimize the quality of the Microteaching course.
