Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the type and prevalence of blood protozoa disease on cattle and buffalo in Moyo Hilir sub-district, Sumbawa District, Wes Nusa Tenggara. This research was taken on july until December 2018. This research used a non-experimental method through an observation study. The samples of this research were made in thin blood smear using 20% Giemsa’s stain and all samples were from 200 blood of cattle and buffalo in Moyo Hilir sub-district, Sumbawa District, West Nusa Tenggara. The results showed that the prevalence of blood protozoa disease was 11.5 Based on the type of blood protozoa, the highest prevalence was Anaplasma sp. (11%), followed by Theileria sp. (0.5%), while Babesia sp. And Trypanosoma sp. Were not found. Based on the livestock types, the prevalence in buffalo was higher (17%)than cttle (6%). Based on sex the prevalence in female was higher (12.6%) than male (10.11%). Based on age of livestock, the prevalance of livestock with age > 2 years old was higher (13.33%) than livestock with age ≤ 2 years old (10.4%) based on the location of the village, blood protozoa disease were only found in Olatrawa village (17.85%) and Serading village (17.82%), while in Kakiang and Moyo village were not found. The conclusion of this research indicate that prevalence of blood protozoa disease was 11.5% and only Anaplasma sp. And Theileria sp. Were found.

Abstract

The aims of this study is to know the effectiveness of ethanol extract of red betel leaf (Piper crocatum) against mortality of Boophilus microplus Larvae in Vitro, as well as knowing lethal concentration 50 (LC50) and lethal concentration 90 (LC90). Method that used in the research was completely randomized design. There were five treatments and each treatment was done in five replications. This research used ten Boophilus microplus larvae in each treatment for all replication. The observation and recording of mortality was done at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 hours. Boophilus microplus larvae were declared dead if there was no movement. The obtained data was analyzed using ANOVA factorial. The result of this research show that ethanol extract of red betel leaf (Piper crocatum) has effectiveness against mortality of Boophlius microplus larvae in Vitro. In the extract 10% concentration, there is effectiveness that almost the same as Noticks®. The higher concentration of the extract, the higher the effectiveness against mortality lavae. In probit analysis show that LC50 achieved by concentration 5,4% or 2.700mg/50ml and LC90 achieved by concentration 11,3% or 5.650mg/50ml.

Abstract

This survey study was aimed to determine the prevalance of nematodosis and intensity on the Crossbreed Horse in Detasemen Kaveleri Berkuda Parongpong Bandung West Java. The benefits of this research are to contribute giving additional information about Prevalence, Intensity, and Relation among prevalance with age, sex, and stable. Fecal samples were tested by native, sedimentation, and floatation methods. The examination was found some kind of worm eggs, which are: Trychonema sp., Strongylus spp., Dictyocaulus arnfieldi (lung worm). The result showed that the prevalence of nematodosis was 12.03%. in the calculation of worm eggs per gram feces of Crossbreed Horse in Detasemen Kaveleri Berkuda that have relatively moderate infection were 1123EPG and result analyze with ANOVA showed no real different with function of horse. The result of statistical analysis using Chi-Square test showed no significant differences in prevalence with age and sex (p>0.05). the result of statistical using Chi-Square test showed significant differences in prevalence with stable in Detasemen Kaveleri Berkuda (p<0.05).

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the effect of folic acid as supportive therapy of spiramycine on weight of foetus to Toxoplasma gondii-infected pregnant mice (Mus musculus). Twenty pregnant female mice were divided into four groups as C -, C +, T1 and T2. C +, T1 and T2 were infected by Toxoplasma gondii. C – and C + administered orally 0.5 ml aquadest, T1 administered orally 130 mg/kg BW spiramycine and 0.052 µg/g BW folic acid and T2 administered orally 0.052 µg/g BW folic acid. Experimental groups received the treatments for 5 days, then animals of each groups were sacrified. Foetuses were dissected out for observation. The weight of fetuses were measured using an analytical balance. The data weight of foetuses was presented descriptively and analyzed by ANOVA test and continued by Tukey HSD. From this study, the weight of foetuses from the pregnant mice of T1 and T2 have difference compared with the controls. The result of this research is folic acid affects the weight of foetuses to Toxoplasma gondii-infected pregnant mice.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of small Intestine cestodes in goat at Pegirian Slaughterhouse Surabaya with gastrointestinal dissection method. Thirty-six samples of goat’s small intestine, twenty-five from Kacang goats and eleven from Ettawa-cross (PE) goats, were collected from Pegirian Slaughterhouse Surabaya on May 2018. Fresh adult worms were collected with gastrointestinal dissection and microscopically identified. The result showed that cestodes infections could be identified in three (12%) of Kacang goats and three (27.27%) of PE goats. The cestode infections were identified five positive samples (19.23%) in male goat and one positive sample (10%) in female goat, while determined by the ages found three positive samples (17.64%) in under two years old goats and three positive samples (15.78%) in more than or equal two years old goats. The Chi-Square statistical test (p >0.05) showed there was no significant correlation from the race, sex, and ages of goats on the prevalence of Moniezia expansa.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of gastrointesatinal parasites in cats at Surabaya shelter. Eighty two samples of cat feces used in this study were taken from Griya satwa shelter and Kiro cat shelter. Feces samples were examined using the native, sedimentation and floating methods. Feces samples gastrointestinal parasite were identified by using a microscope with 400x and 1000x magnifications. Faces samples that are diagnosed positively if there is at least one of the three methods. Feces samples has observed, obtained prevalence rate of 43.9% or 36 positive samples from eighty two samples. The results of chi square analysis showed that p > 0.05, which showed that the parasites taken in the two shelters had clear differences in the prevalence of the gastrointestinal tract parasites. The parasites observed were Isospora sp., Ancylostoma sp., Toxocara cati and Toxocara leonina.
