Abstract

This study aims to elaborate the concept of active learning strategy implementation in Islamic religious education learning, which will be divided into three main discussions, including: 1) the definition of active learning strategies; 2) components and supporting factors of active learning strategies; 3) various methods in active learning strategies; and 4) implementation of active learning strategies in Islamic religious education learning. This research uses a library research approach, to analyze the concept of implementing active learning strategies in Islamic religious education learning in Mel Silberman's book, Active Learning: 101 Strategies To Teach Any Subject. Data collection was carried out using documentation techniques, which were then analyzed inductively. The results showed that active learning strategy is a learning approach that invites students to engage directly through real experiences, empowering them to learn actively in various ways and strategies. Components such as experience, interaction, communication, and reflection are key in implementing active learning strategies. Factors such as teacher attitude and behavior play an important role in supporting active learning. The book "Active Learning: 101 Strategies To Teach Any Subject" by Silberman presents various strategies that can be adapted, including in the context of Islamic religious education learning, such as group resume method, learning starts with a question, information search, quiz team, everyone is a teacher here, and jigsaw learning. All of these will create a learning environment that motivates, engages, and improves students' understanding in Islamic religious education learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) module tailored to the needs of Islamic Education (PAI) programs in higher education institutions. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-exploratory method, involving three stages: (1) document observation, including the analysis of Syllabus (RPS) and existing teaching materials, (2) needs analysis through interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with faculty members and students, and (3) the design and development of ESP modules integrating Islamic content. The study was conducted at two Islamic universities in Indonesia, University A and University B, with participants comprising program heads, lecturers, and students from Islamic Education programs. The findings highlight several key points: University A lacks a structured ESP module, relying solely on RPS and inconsistent content across study programs. In contrast, University B demonstrates a more organized approach, with a dedicated ESP textbook titled English for Islamic Studies that incorporates Islamic themes, such as tafsir, fiqh, and aqidah. Additionally, University B effectively integrates digital tools and employs student feedback mechanisms to enhance engagement and flexibility in learning. Reading skills emerged as the most critical competency, supported by thematic Islamic content to improve linguistic and religious competencies. The study concludes that a well-structured ESP module aligned with institutional goals and students’ academic and spiritual aspirations can significantly enhance the teaching and learning process. These findings contribute to the broader discourse on ESP as a transformative tool for education in Islamic contexts.

Abstract

As an educational institution born from the cradle of Islamic civilization, madrasahs have played a role in the advancement of the Muslim community in the past. However, in the midst of this era of globalization, madrasahs face complex challenges. This research aims to describe the development of madrasahs in the dynamics of Islamic education and the strategic steps madrasahs take in facing the era of globalization. This study is a literature review that uses documentation as the method of data collection, while the analysis technique employs inductive analysis. The results of this research indicate that in this era of globalization, madrasahs encounter two main challenges: 1) internal challenges, such as the low quality and competitiveness of madrasah graduates; and 2) external challenges, namely Islamophobia in the global community, especially in the West. To address internal issues, integrated improvements involving all elements of madrasah management need to be pursued. External issues need to be approached with a new marketing model that utilizes contemporary communication patterns to combat negative stigma against madrasahs and simultaneously create a positive trend towards the image of Islamic educational institutions and Islam itself.

Abstract

Ibn Khaldun's works, such as al-Muqaddimah, contain elements that can be linked to the principles of constructivism. In Islamic education, constructivism can be interpreted as an approach that values students' active role in constructing their knowledge. This research aims to analyze Ibn Khaldun's constructivist thinking in the context of Islamic religious education. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type, focusing on a particular case to be observed and analyzed carefully until complete. The data source this time was carried out at Singaperbangsa University Karawang in the Islamic Education Masters study program. Data collection using interviews, observation and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique follows the Miles and Huberman analysis flow, including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The research results show that according to Ibnu Khaldun, constructivism in education can be carried out through social relationships in building (constructing) students' understanding. By providing freedom in determining lecture contracts, determining groups in building an understanding of the material to be presented, and determining references or referents based on case studies for problem-solving, educators provide space and time for discussion. So that students can reflect on their experiences and build an understanding of the world in which they live. This research is limited to the thoughts of figures from an Islamic education perspective. The findings of this research are relevant to Ibn Khaldun's constructivist thinking, which states that building a person's understanding can be done through social interaction with the environment and people around him.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the concept of ethics and morality in Islam that can be applied in the education bureaucracy, identify the challenges faced in the application of Islamic ethics and morality in the education bureaucracy, and offer strategies for implementing Islamic values to create a more transparent, fair, and quality-oriented system. This research uses a library research method with a narrative review approach. Data were obtained through literature analysis from various relevant academic sources in the last 10 years. The analysis technique used is thematic analysis to identify patterns and main themes related to Islamic ethics and morality in the education bureaucracy. The results show that the application of Islamic values, such as honesty (shidq), trustworthiness, justice and ihsan, can improve effectiveness and transparency in the education bureaucracy. However, its implementation faces various challenges, including corruption, lack of transparency, low ethical awareness among education bureaucrats, and weak Islamic values-based regulations. To overcome these obstacles, strategies that can be implemented include Islamic ethics education and training for bureaucrats, strengthening regulations, improving technology-based monitoring systems, and exemplary leadership in the education bureaucracy. The implications of this research show that an education bureaucracy based on Islamic ethics and morality can create an education system that is more integrity, professional, and oriented towards the welfare of the community. Therefore, this research recommends further studies on the application of technology in the supervision of the education bureaucracy as well as more effective policy models in instilling Islamic values in the education administration system.

Abstract

This study examines the symbolic meaning of students' social interactions with ustadz, teachers, fellow students, and parents at the Muhammadiyah Boarding School Al-Manar South Sumatra. Using a descriptive qualitative approach based on case studies, this study used observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Analysis techniques included coding and categorizing the collected data to identify related patterns and themes. This study's findings revealed that students' interactions with ustadz and teachers are symbolized by bowing and kissing the hand, reflecting respect, religious obedience, and social hierarchy. These traditions strengthen the cultural and spiritual bonds between students and their teachers. Among fellow students, calling each other akhi (brother) and ukhti (sister) symbolizes respect, unity, and leadership development. These interactions help strengthen social structures and foster character development. Interactions with parents expressed through hand kissing and santri sambangan (visits) reflect respect, emotional connection, and community support. This symbolic interaction serves as character education for the students, instilling social ethics and cultural continuity. However, the focus of the study on one pesantren limits its generalizability. Future research should explore symbolic interactions in other pesantren to provide a broader perspective. The originality of this study lies in its focus on the role of symbols in shaping hierarchies and social identities in pesantren. By examining the pesantren educational environment, this study offers new insights into how symbols influence the dynamics of power, order, and communal values.
