Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has made online games a part of students' daily lives, including games containing violent elements. This phenomenon raises concerns because exposure to violent games is suspected of contributing to increased aggressive behavior among adolescents. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of violent games on the aggressive behavior of junior high school students. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study sample consisted of 282 junior high school students spread across three provinces, namely West Sumatra, Jakarta, and Southeast Sulawesi, consisting of 121 male students and 161 female students. This study used two scales: the violent game scale and the aggressiveness scale. Data analysis was conducted through simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that playing violent games significantly influenced aggressive behavior. The coefficient of determination (R Square = 0.253) indicated that 25.3% of students' aggressive behavior was explained by the intensity of playing violent games, while the rest was influenced by other factors. The implications of this research are the need for active participation by schools, parents, and the community in monitoring and providing alternative positive activities that can reduce students' exposure to violent games.

Abstract

This research was conducted at Jayakarta Junior High School. In the case of Jayakarta Junior High School, mental health issues arise due to lifestyle trends that are prevalent among adolescents, leading to bullying behavior towards those who do not conform to these trends. This bullying is known as body shaming. It is possible that this bullying can lead to damage to students' mental health. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between body shaming and mental health. The research method used is regression analysis with a sample of 120 students selected based on certain criteria. The results show that Body shaming has an impact on the mental health of students. The results (Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) show that Body shaming (> 0.495; sig = 0.000) and Mental health (> 0.852; sig = 0.000). This research also found that students of SMP Jayakarta who experienced body shaming had lower mental health scores compared to students who did not experience body shaming. The results of this study indicate that body shaming can be a risk factor for the mental health of students.

Abstract

The development of digital technology and increasing use of online games among adolescents pose challenges to students' emotional development, particularly vocational high school students who are at the stage of character formation and self-control. Excessive use of online games can cause difficulties controlling emotions, decreased discipline, and impulsive and aggressive behavior. This study aims to determine the description of Internet Gaming Disorder, emotional maturity, and the influence of IGD on the emotional maturity of students at SMK Negeri 57 Jakarta. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method. The sample consisted of 207 students. Data collection was conducted using a Likert-scale questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality tests, linearity tests, and simple linear regression using SPSS 22. The results showed that students' IGD was in the low category at 67.63%, while emotional maturity was in the moderate to high category at 63.29%. The regression results showed a t-value of -3.468 with a significance value of 0.001 < 0.05 and an R Square of 0.055. Thus, IGD had a negative and significant influence on emotional maturity of 5.5%, while 94.5% was influenced by other factors.

Abstract

The rise in verbal aggression among adolescents has become a significant problem in today’s digital world, particularly in relation to high levels of online gaming activity. This study examines how Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) affects verbal aggression among 10th-grade students at SMAN 39 in East Jakarta. A quantitative correlational method was used, involving 178 students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected via a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, and simple linear regression. The results indicate that Internet Gaming Disorder has a significant effect on verbal aggression, with an R² value of 0.131, indicating that IGD accounts for 13.1% of the variation in verbal aggression. Meanwhile, 86.9% of the variation in verbal aggression is influenced by other factors outside the research model. These results underscore the need to address excessive gaming habits while considering other psychological and situational influences. This study provides valuable insights for educators and schools in designing approaches to reduce aggressive behavior among adolescents.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the extent to which Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) contributes to career anxiety among students at Mardhika Vocational School. A quantitative correlational approach was applied, with simple linear regression used to examine the influence between the variables. The study involved 110 eleventh-grade students who were selected through random sampling. The findings revealed that BDD significantly influences students’ career anxiety, indicating that higher levels of BDD are associated with greater anxiety about future career choices. The study also identified social media exposure, social pressure, and family expectations as factors that may intensify the effects of BDD on students’ career readiness. These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive and preventive Guidance and Counseling (GC) services in addressing body image concerns and career-related anxiety simultaneously, thereby supporting students in developing healthier self-perceptions and better career readiness.

Abstract

Academic stress is a common psychological burden among senior high school students that, when left unmanaged, may develop into hopelessness. This study examined the level of academic stress, the level of hopelessness, and the relationship between the two among students of SMA Kasih Depok, Indonesia. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 117 students selected through simple random sampling from a population of 147. Data were collected using two Likert-scale questionnaires developed by the researchers for this study: a 27-item academic stress scale measuring students’ perceived academic pressure and a 22-item hopelessness scale assessing negative expectations about the future. Because the academic stress scores were not normally distributed, Spearman’s rho was used to test the hypothesis. The results showed that academic stress was predominantly in the moderate category (60.7%), while hopelessness was predominantly in the low category (47.9%). The correlation analysis revealed a significant, moderate, positive relationship between academic stress and hopelessness (rₛ = .533, p < .001, N = 117), indicating that higher levels of academic stress were associated with higher levels of hopelessness. These findings highlight the importance of preventive and curative guidance and counseling services in helping students manage academic pressure adaptively before it develops into hopelessness.
