Abstract

This study discusses the phenomenon of money politics in the 2024 legislative elections in PALI district. This phenomenon creates an interesting dynamic due to the fraud that occurred during the general election. This study uses descriptive qualitative research, which was conducted in Raja Barat village, Tanah Abang sub-district, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI) district. The data collected in this study were obtained through interviews with informants, direct field observations, and documentation studies. The purpose of this study is to determine how the phenomenon of money politics occurs in Raja Barat Village, Tanah Abang Subdistrict, PALI District, and to identify the factors that influence the occurrence of money politics in the legislative elections in Raja Barat Village, Tanah Abang Subdistrict, PALI District. The theories used in this study are patronage and clientelism theories, as well as Gabriel Almond's political culture theory, as these theories are considered to provide a foundation for addressing the issues raised in this study. The results of the study indicate that the community accepts the practice of money politics because they are accustomed to receiving money and obtaining money during election periods. The community believes that this has become a tradition or culture practiced by the village community during elections, including local elections and village head elections. The patterns of money politics observed in Raja Barat Village include vote buying and the distribution of personal gifts by legislative candidates or their campaign teams. There are two factors influencing the continued occurrence of money politics: cultural and customary factors, and the second factor is the weakness of oversight and law enforcement. This study contributes to understanding the dynamics of money politics in the context of legislative elections and provides insights into the factors influencing the occurrence of money politics.

Abstract

Abstract

The present study conceptualizes “Unity in Diversity” as a condition in which individuals’ ethnic and national identities are congruent. This condition is achievable by internalizing universal-diverse orientation. The authors provide support for this idea through a cross-sectional survey (N = 400), and observed a positive relationship between individuals’ ethnic and national identities among individuals with high universal-diverse orientation. Such a relationship was absent among individuals with low universal-diverse orientation. Based on the results, the authors recommend socializing universal-diverse orientation to promote a sense of “Unity in Diversity” among individuals within a multicultural society, such as that of Indonesia.

Abstract

The incorporated metal nanoparticles in a polysaccharide-based film exhibit efficient antibacterial activity against harmful germs. However, previous studies have used a commercial polysaccharide for their film production. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a natural polysaccharide-based film extracted from the local algae Gracilaria sp. originating from Sinjai Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Firstly, the polysaccharide agarose was isolated and its properties compared with those of commercial agarose. A present low-cost isolation process produces agarose with 1.8% (w/w) of yield. Results also showed physicochemical properties similar to those of the commercial agarose. Secondly, the agarose-based antibacterial film was synthesized at 0, 0.5, and 1% glycerol concentrations. The synthesized film was incorporated with silver (Ag) and copper (Cu) nanoparticles (NPs). Morphological, mechanical, and physicochemical properties of the incorporated Ag-agarose and Cu-agarose films were characterized using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), Universal Testing Machine (UTM), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. Results showed the film stiffness and tensile strength increased by incorporating either AgNPs or CuNPS. The interaction of AgNPs-agarose most likely involves physical bonds, while the interaction of CuNPs-agarose forms coordination bonds. An antibacterial test showed that the Ag-agarose nanocomposite inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Bacillus subtilis. In the meantime, Cu-agarose prevented the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. Overall, antibacterial activity was influenced by the interaction between metal nanoparticles and agarose, the concentration of metal nanoparticles, and the film's solubility. An agarose-based antibacterial film from Gracilaria sp. has the potential for use in various applications, including food packaging, pharmaceuticals, and other industries.

Abstract

Background: The trend of maternal mortality in recent years has fluctuated. One way to prevent maternal mortality is to increase the use of KIA books. However, the current KIA books are not being used optimally, so many mothers do not have knowledge about KIA books. Objectives: To determine the effect of education on the use of KIA books on the knowledge of pregnant women at the Daleman Community Health Center in Sampang Regency. Methods: This study used a descriptive-quantitative method, with sampling using total sampling. The population of this study consisted of 17 people with a sample of 23 respondents, using a questionnaire instrument with a Wilcoxon test. Results: The Wilcoxon test showed that the pre-test and post-test values obtained a result of 0.000 with a significance of p (<0.05), which means that the education provided significantly increased the knowledge of pregnant women at the Daleman Community Health Center, Sampang Regency. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that education on the use of the KIA book influences the improvement of knowledge among pregnant women at the Daleman Community Health Center in Sampang District. Therefore, it is recommended that education on the Mother and Child Health Handbook be conducted regularly and continuously by health workers, and developed using attractive and easy-to-understand media in order to increase awareness and optimal use of the KIA book among pregnant women.
