Abstract

Farmers in Kediri City still have low awareness of proper livestock waste management. It has also been reported that many local residents have complained about the pollution caused by livestock waste. Furthermore, the waste is often disposed of in makeshift dumping sites created by the farmers themselves, and some farmers even discharge livestock waste into the Brantas River. The purpose of this study was to analyze livestock farmers' participation and the factors influencing their involvement in the livestock waste processing program. The sampling technique in this study used the purposive sampling method, for sampling the population of farmers, it was obtained by the purposive sampling method, namely selecting respondents who participated in the beef cattle waste processing program in Kediri City. The main variables observed in this study were: motivation (X2), perception (X3), role of stakeholders (X4), participation (Y1), and sustainability (Y2). This research study employed a descriptive survey method. The questionnaires are the main tool in gathering data. The data analysis method involved statistical model testing using SEM SmartPLS. The results showed that livestock farmers' participation in the beef cattle waste processing program was influenced by motivation and perception variables. This is attributed to the minimal role played by stakeholders in livestock waste processing in Kediri City. Furthermore, higher levels of motivation and more positive perceptions are associated with greater participation, which in turn has a positive impact on sustainability.

Abstract

The livestock grant program initiated by the Kediri Regency Government aimed to improve livestock numbers and productivity. However, since the funds were first distributed in 2022, the goat population in Puncu Sub-district has shown fluctuating trends, while Kepung Sub- district has experienced a consistent increase. This study seeks to investigate the utilization of grant funds by the farmer groups using case study with explorative approach. Most groups utilized the funds primarily for goat procurement, with a focus on breeding activities, employing farming practices that ranged from traditional to semi-intensive systems. Jawarandu and Peranakan Etawa (PE) were the most preferred goat breeds among the farmer groups. The farming approaches varied across groups, including collective, semi-collective, and individual management, reflecting differences in available resources, organizational maturity, and group objectives. Despite these variations, the majority of groups followed technical guidelines and used the grant funds as initial capital to start or improve their goat farming activities. Key factors supporting effective fund utilization included access to local feed resources, flexible fund usage guidelines, veterinary support, strong member solidarity, and accessible goat marketing channels. On the other hand, challenges included seasonal feed shortages, limited health and reproductive management practices, and difficulties in monitoring goats when housed individually. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers in designing more responsive and sustainable livestock grant programs and may serve as a basis for future research on the programs impacts.

Abstract

Sustainable agriculture is one solution to address global challenges such as climate change and environmental degradation. A critical aspect of sustainable agriculture is managing organic waste, especially livestock waste, which is often overlooked despite its great potential as a resource. In Lempake, Samarinda, the livestock sector produces quite significant livestock waste, but the management of this waste is still limited. This study aims to optimize the processing of livestock waste into environmentally friendly organic fertilizer and explore the obstacles and solutions in processing this waste. The survey results show that livestock waste such as cow, goat, and poultry manure can be converted into quality organic fertilizer by composting and using additional materials such as straw, leaves, and decomposer microorganisms (EM4). The resulting organic fertilizer can increase soil fertility, improve soil structure, and reduce dependence on synthetic chemical fertilizers. The main obstacles are livestock farmers' lack of knowledge and skills, limited technology and infrastructure, and low environmental awareness. The proposed solutions include training for livestock farmers, provision of technology and infrastructure, and increasing environmental awareness. This research is expected to contribute to sustainable agriculture and ecological conservation and become a model for other regions. Abstract

This study investigates the factors inhibiting halal certification among Micro and Small Industries (MSIs) of meatball products. Bondowoso Regency, as one of the regions in East Java Province, has good potential in developing micro and small-scale meatball industries. However, in reality, despite halal certification being legally mandated and crucial for consumer trust, especially in a country where the majority of the population is Muslim, no meatball MSIs in the region have obtained such certification. This study utilizes a qualitative methodology, incorporating interviews and triangulated data, to identify six inhibiting factors in halal certification for MSIs of meatball products. The following factors have been identified as contributing to the issue: 1) lack of socialization, 2) lack of knowledge of business actors on halal aspects of meatball products, 3) very high dependence of business actors on the existence of free halal certification, 4) lack of coordination between related institutions, 5) lack of human resources, and 6) lack of government role in mobilizing MSI actors to carry out halal certification. These findings underscore the need for strengthened collaboration among government, academia, and industry (triple helix) and more proactive regional strategies to meet the national halal certification target by 2026.

Abstract

This research explores the positive and negative impacts of the Bilik Sijile Beach tourism sector on beef cattle farmers' livelihoods and the environment in Merak Hamlet, Baluran National Park. As emerging tourist destinations, these beaches have attracted many visitors, significantly changing the local community. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with SWOT and socio-economic impact analyses, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies involving 40 purposively selected respondents. The findings indicate positive impacts, including increased business opportunities, income diversification, and improved infrastructure. However, tourism also reduces grazing land quality, environmental pollution, and social changes affecting local traditions. The SWOT analysis highlights strengths like local resources and tourist economic potential alongside opportunities like government support and digital technology advancements. Conversely, weaknesses include technological limitations and resource pressures, while threats encompass market price fluctuations and environmental degradation. This study recommends sustainable tourism development that balances local community welfare and ecological preservation. Integrating environmental conservation with regional economic growth and providing training in tourism management and technology for cattle farmers can enhance adaptation and ensure the sustainability of both tourism and livestock sectors in Merak Hamlet.

Abstract

Strawberries are one of the most popular fruits in Indonesia. In 2022, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded strawberry production at 28,895 tons, a 193.05% increase from the previous year. West Java was the main producer, with 25,413 tons, accounting for 87.95% of total production. However, the sorting process is still done conventionally to determine the ripeness and quality of the fruit, which consumes time and resources. This system utilizes deep learning technology with YOLOv7 and EfficientNetV2S models, integrated with the cloud and implemented on an Android application. The app sends images to the deep learning system, which processes and classifies the ripeness of strawberries. The smartphone displays the confidence level and classification results. Based on testing, the system can identify five categories: Ripe Grade-A, Ripe Grade-B, Half-Ripe Grade-A, Half-Ripe Grade-B, and Unripe. The loss values for Box and Val Box are 0,02095 and 0,03029, respectively; Objectness and Val Objectness are 0,004057 and 0,00333; Classification and Val Classification are 0,008343 and 0,007392. The classification model evaluation showed precision, recall, and F1-Score of 0.990 each and an accuracy of 99%. Cloud processing time reached 1-2 seconds with object classification at 180 milliseconds. Usability testing with 33 respondents showed dominant scores of 4 and 5, and the application can be installed on various Android versions without consuming much memory or crashing.
