Abstract

The objective of this study was to ascertain the psychological underpinnings of self-harm behaviors among adolescents, with a particular emphasis on the tenets of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT). Additionally, this study aimed to elucidate the various forms of self-harm behaviors and the underlying factors that contribute to these behaviors in adolescents. This research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research design. The research subjects were students at State Senior High School 1 Batu, Indonesia, selected based on certain criteria in accordance with the research needs (purposive sampling). The results demonstrate three key aspects of the psychological dynamics of adolescents with self-harm behavior, namely cognitive, affective, and conative. These were mapped into the ABC model, which comprises three elements, namely activating events, irrational beliefs, and impacts. Forms of self-harm in adolescents include physical (slashing the hand) and non-physical (ignoring health, smoking, taking drugs, and staying up late). The background of adolescents committing self-harm behavior is influenced by both internal factors (dissatisfaction and loneliness) and external factors (family problems and modeling).

Abstract

This integrative review investigates the potential of expressive lyric writing and AI-generated music as alternative, non-verbal modalities to support emotional articulation and well-being among students—particularly in secondary school and counseling program settings—who face challenges in verbal expression. Students with limited verbal communication skills often struggle to articulate their emotional experiences through conventional language-based approaches, leaving them vulnerable to emotional suppression and psychological distress. Drawing from a systematic synthesis of 18 peer-reviewed articles published between 2011 and 2025, this review integrates findings across diverse methodologies (qualitative, experimental, computational, and mixed-methods) and geographic contexts. Two thematic clusters emerged: (1) expressive lyrics as a medium of emotional catharsis and identity construction, and (2) music—particularly instrumental, adaptive, and AI-generated—as a channel for affective resonance and personalized emotional support. The findings suggest that lyrics and music not only serve as creative outlets but also function as therapeutic tools that bridge emotional expression and psychological reflection. Building on this synthesis, the review proposes an integrative model that guides students from emotion-based lyric writing to AI-facilitated musical interpretation, culminating in counselor-guided interventions. This model offers a structured yet flexible approach to enhancing emotional literacy and engagement for students with communicative limitations. The review concludes by calling for further empirical testing of the model and deeper integration of expressive arts and intelligent technologies into school-based counseling and mental health programs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the behavior contract technique in reality counseling as an effort to reduce phubbing behavior among high school students. Using a pretest-posttest quantitative research design on a control group, five students who were identified as having high phubbing behavior were selected as research subjects. The data collection instrument used was a validated phubbing behavior scale. The results showed a significant decrease in phubbing scores after the reality group counseling intervention was administered. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed a Z value of -2.023 and a significance of 0.043 and indicated a significant effect of the intervention on reducing phubbing behavior. The findings of this study support the use of reality group counseling as an effective intervention strategy in schools to address phubbing behavior and improve students' psychosocial well-being.

Abstract

Abstract: Learning motivation is an important factor that influences students' academic success. Efforts to increase learning motivation can be done through classical guidance using audio-visual media. This literature review examines various studies, articles and journals related to the effectiveness of using audio-visual media in classical guidance to increase student learning motivation. The use of this media provides an opportunity to present information in a more interesting and meaningful way for students. The combination of visual media such as video, animation, pictures, and auditory media such as sound, music, or narration can stimulate students' senses of sight and hearing simultaneously. This facilitates a more effective learning process because information can be processed through multiple channels. Apart from that, audio visual media is also able to create a more interactive learning experience, so that it can increase student involvement and participation in guidance activities. With attractive visualizations and lively sound, this media can help capture students' attention and maintain their focus for longer periods of time. However, the effectiveness of using audio-visual media in classical guidance is also influenced by other factors such as the quality of the content presented, the facilitator's skills in integrating the media appropriately, and the suitability of the media to learning objectives and student characteristics. Therefore, careful planning and preparation is needed to ensure that the use of audio-visual media can really make a positive contribution to increasing student learning motivation

Abstract

Abstract

he phenomenon of digital dopamine refers to the release of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain in response to instant digital stimulation from devices, social media, and online games. This article aims to comprehensively examine the concept of digital dopamine, its impact on children's behavior and psychological functions, as well as practical measures to address it within family and school contexts. The method employed is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing 25 primary sources consisting of psychology journals, neuroscience journals, guidance and counseling journals, and reports from international organizations published between 2019 and 2026. The findings indicate that digital dopamine contributes to decreased focus capacity, increased impulsivity, impaired emotional regulation, and a tendency toward addictive device use. Mitigation strategies include gradual digital detoxification, activity substitution, implementation of device-free zones, and strengthening the roles of parents and school counselors. This article affirms that digital dopamine is not merely a metaphor but a neurobiological phenomenon that necessitates a systematic approach based on family dynamics and guidance and counseling services in school.

Abstract

Mental health is a global issue that has received increasing attention, particularly among university students. Mental health literacy (MHL) is an important factor in promoting students' psychological well-being through knowledge, attitudes, and the ability to recognize and address mental health problems. This study aims to map the developmental trends of MHL research among university students in order to provide a comprehensive overview of the direction and focus of studies in this field. This research employed a bibliometric literature review approach by analyzing 48 journal articles indexed in the Scopus database and published between 2021 and 2025. The findings indicate that publications on MHL research have increased significantly from year to year, reflecting growing academic attention to student mental health issues. However, the mapping of disciplinary fields shows that research remains dominated by medical, psychological, and public health approaches, with a focus on depression, anxiety, stigma, and professional help-seeking. In contrast, educational approaches, including the integration of MHL into curricula, learning strategies, and pedagogical innovations, remain highly limited. This imbalance indicates a conceptual gap in the development of MHL literature in higher education. The findings provide a comprehensive overview of the current development of MHL research and may serve as a reference for researchers in identifying future research gaps. This study emphasizes the need to strengthen MHL research through educational approaches that are integrated into higher education systems in order to support sustainable efforts to improve university students' mental health.
