Abstract

Land cover change is one of the major contributors to environmental degradation and can significantly alter the physical environment. These alterations in the physical environment may have substantial implications for human health. One of the notable health impacts associated with such changes is the increased incidence of tuberculosis. Tuberculosis cases are linked to the proliferation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which thrives in environments with high humidity levels. This study employs linear regression analysis to examine the influence of various types of land cover—namely, plantation areas, mixed agriculture, residential zones, and rice fields—on tuberculosis incidence. Additionally, the study incorporates Human Development Index (HDI) and economic growth rate as proxies for human development in Lampung Province. The findings, based on t-test statistical analysis, reveal that plantation land cover (P-value = 0.045) and the rate of economic growth (P-value = 0.001) have a statistically significant effect on tuberculosis incidence in the region. In contrast, other land use types and the Human Development Index do not exhibit a significant relationship with the number of tuberculosis cases. Based on these results, it is recommended that the government formulate credible and evidence-based regulations concerning future land use planning.

Abstract

Penentuan plot menggunakan intensitas sampling (IS) 0,1%, sehingga jumlah plot pengamatan sebanyak 64 plot.

Abstract

Vegetation is essential for birds to fulfil their life requirements. Monoculture coffee plantations, coffee-based agroforestry systems, and forests in HKm Wana Jaya provide potential habitats for various animal species, including birds. This research assessed bird diversity, richness, evenness, species dominance, feeding guilds, and conservation status across these three land cover types. The point count method was employed for data collection. Data were quantitatively analysed using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index, the Margalef richness index, the Pielou evenness index, and the Simpson dominance index. The study recorded 35 bird species from 19 families comprising 167 individuals. Species diversity values across all three land cover types fell within the moderate category, with forest exhibiting the highest value (2.988), followed by coffee agroforestry (2.648) and monoculture coffee (2.035). The highest species richness was found in the forest (5.429) and the lowest in monoculture coffee (2.970). The highest species evenness was recorded in coffee agroforestry (0.935) and the lowest in monoculture coffee (0.849), while species dominance values across all three land cover types were categorised as low (0.061-0.172). Insectivorous birds dominated feeding guilds across all habitat types, revealing unexpected ecological resilience. Of the species recorded, 29 are classified as Least Concern, two as Vulnerable, four as Near Threatened, while 10 species are protected under national legislation, and three species are listed in CITES Appendix II. The findings suggest that while forests maintain the highest biodiversity value, coffee agroforestry systems can provide crucial supplementary bird conservation habitats in modified landscapes.

Abstract

This study analyzed the damage to the Axle Counter Module ZP D 43 at the Maros Station crossing. The ZP D 43 module functions to detect the presence of the train, but it was found to be disrupted due to lightning strikes and a poor grounding system, which caused fatal damage to the module and counting head. The research method uses a qualitative approach through observation, technician interviews, as well as SWOT and TWOS analysis. The results of the SWOT and TOWS analyses show the need to improve system protection and grounding improvements to improve operational reliability. These findings provide strategic recommendations to improve the safety and efficiency of train travel in the Makassar–Parepare Railway Project.

Abstract

Amphibians are one of the constituent elements of ecosystems that have an essential role as bio-indicators of environmental damage. This study aimed to determine amphibians' diversity and identify amphibians' distribution in the carbon footprint reduction location at PT. Nestlé, KPH Batutegi, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province. Data was collected using Line Transect and Visual Encounter Survey (VES) methods, and collected data were analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener index, dominance index, stable equality index, wealth index, and the spatial analysis method to determine the spatial distribution of amphibian species. The results showed moderate amphibian diversity, with the Shannon-Wiener index of 1.85455 low dominance index with a value of 0.08799, a stable equality index with an index value of 0.83755, and a wealth index included in the low criteria with an index value of 2.256214. There were ten species of amphibians from four families, namely katak tegalan (Fajervarya limnocharis), kodok puru (Ingerophrynus parvus), kongkang jangkrik (Rana nicobariensis), katak sejati (Ranidae), kongkang kolam (Hylrana chaconata), bancet rawa (Occidozyga sumatrana), katak pohon bergaris (Polypedates leucomystax), kodok buduk (Bufo asper), katak sisi kasar (Hylarana glandulosa), kodok sawah (Fajervarya cancrivora). The most common amphibian species were found close to the river with a distance of 0-50 m, with an altitude of 600-1000 mdpl, and the type of land cover was dry land agriculture. Amphibian diversity in KPH Batutegi is classified as moderate, so further research is needed to review the existing amphibian diversity after planting and caring for the location.

Abstract

The diversity of small mammals has a vital role as a bioindicator of a managed area in the forest. This research was conducted to determine the small mammals in four types of land cover in the agroforestry management area of KPH Batutegi. Sampling was carried out using traps in the four types of land cover. Species diversity was analyzed by diversity index, evenness, dominance, and abundance. The results of this study indicate that the variety, evenness, and abundance of small mammals are low due to land cover conditions, elevation, and the behavior of small mammals in their habitat. The dominant small mammals are Rattus tiomanicus sabae and Maxomys baeodon because they have a high level of adaptation to various habitats. Twelve small mammals were found in the agroforestry cover, ten individuals in the forested cover, four individuals in the monoculture coffee cover, and two individuals in the private land. The management of the Batutegi KPH shall counsel the community to prevent land clearing, which causes damage to forest sustainability, to maintain the existence of small mammals.

Abstract

Coffee agroforestry in protected forest areas has the potential to be operated as a nature tourism destination. The purpose of this study was to analyze the feasibility of coffee agroforestry in the KPHL Batutegi area as a nature tourism area. Data collection was conducted by field observation and interviews using questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out using a modification of the Directorate General of Nature Tourism Object Operations (ADO-ODTWA) guidelines in 2003. The results showed that the potential of coffee agroforestry in KPHL Batutegi bordering Penantian Village and Sinar Banten Village has a medium potential value index. This means that the coffee agroforestry area in KPHL Batutegi has criteria that are not yet feasible to develop, because the element of accessibility (infrastructure), especially in the type of road taken with poor road conditions, makes it difficult to access the coffee agroforestry area. Tourism objects in the medium classification can be developed because a lot of planning is needed in structuring a good area in the future.
