Abstract

Fort Van der Capellen, a colonial Dutch heritage site located in Batusangkar City, Tanah Datar Regency, has a long history marked by various functional transformations, including serving as a colonial defense post, Japanese military headquarters, a Teacher Training College (now State University of Padang), and later the Tanah Datar Police Resort office. Since ceasing its official function in 2000, the building fell into neglect and deterioration due to aging and insufficient maintenance. This article examines the preservation efforts carried out by the government through the Batusangkar Cultural Preservation Center between 2007 and 2010, employing the historical method through heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The findings reveal that the preservation process occurred in three stages: first, protection through environmental cleaning in 2007 and phased physical restoration from 2008 to 2010; second, development involving documentation, technical studies, and expert involvement to ensure a planned conservation process; and third, utilization, including the fort’s adaptive reuse as the Office of Tourism, Youth, and Sports of Tanah Datar Regency and its designation as a National Cultural Heritage site.

Abstract

The focus of teaching English at schools, especially for beginners is to build vocabulary knowledge in addition to language skills and components. To achieve the goal, KIM Strategy can be implemented, which becomes the topic of this paper. Hence, this paper aims to review the related literature on the implementation and implication of KIM Strategy for vocabulary teaching. This is a library research, in which two types of data were presented. They were  primary and secondary data. The primary data was obtained from the original work of Kristen Vibas (1970), the proponent of the KIM Strategy, entitled KIM: A highly effective strategy to build vocabulary across any content area. Whilst, the secondary data were collected from journal articles published in the past 10 years, 2014-2024. The results revealed that the KIM Strategy is effective in improving students’ vocabulary knowledge due to its teaching principles that support various principles of inquiry learning, self-directed learning, and social learning. The KIM Strategy is also a strategy for enhancing logical, convergent, and divergent thinking skills.

Abstract

The implementation of customary (adat) sanction-based strategies to minimise immoral acts illustrates the interaction between customary law, moral values, and social dynamics in local communities. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of such sanctions in curbing immoral behaviour, which includes physical, verbal, and sexual offences outside of marriage, as well as other forms of social deviance. It examines the types of sanctions applied, such as fines, corporal punishment, forced marriage, and ostracism. From the perspective of Islamic law, these sanctions fall under ta'zir, a discretionary punishment used to uphold justice and maintain order. Based on family and social law theory, the study positions customary norms as tools for promoting collective morality and shaping social cohesion. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews with religious and traditional leaders, community elders, and young people, as well as through field observations. The findings show that customary sanctions foster awareness, promote moral conduct, and support social harmony by reinforcing shared ethical standards and encouraging communal responsibility. These practices are deeply embedded in cultural identity and often enjoy stronger legitimacy than formal legal mechanisms. Although not part of state law, customary sanctions operate as informal systems of justice and serve as culturally appropriate responses to moral decline. The significance of this study lies in its potential to inform policy and practice through culturally grounded strategies that integrate religious ethics, traditional values, and local wisdom. It also contributes to broader discourses on alternative dispute resolution, grassroots moral governance, and the role of local institutions in addressing youth immorality and sustaining social order.

Abstract

One of the food businesses that has high competitiveness is Padang restaurants. Padang restaurants are known as delicious restaurants that can adapt to the tastes of the entire community. In the 1950s to 1970s, Padang restaurants experienced rapid growth. Many Minangkabau entrepreneurs opened their businesses in various cities, thus creating business competition. Tight business competition encourages Padang restaurants to continue to improve quality and innovation. However, this competition also poses challenges such as monopolistic practices and unhealthy business competition. The problems in this thesis are the existence of unhealthy competition in the Padang restaurant business and legal settlement efforts that can be taken if a dispute occurs between Padang restaurants. This problem was triggered by a 38-second viral video showing the actions of a number of people removing the "Padang Cuisine" label in Sukadana Village which sells food at prices below market prices, which are only IDR 9,000 per portion. This study uses the Normative research method. The results of the analysis show that the practice of revoking the “Padang Cuisine” label is because the owner of the Padang restaurant in Sukadana Village sells food at a price below the market price, which is only IDR 9,000 per portion. Based on Article 20 of Law Number 5 of 1999 concerning the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices and Unfair Business Competition. It can be concluded that what the owner of the restaurant in Sukadana Village did was an act prohibited by Law Number 5 of 1999 concerning the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices and Unfair Business Competition. Because the restaurant sets a price that is very low or below the market price, it is detrimental to other Padang restaurant business owners.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of user participation and top management support on user satisfaction of accounting information systems (AIS), with task complexity as a moderating variable. The research subjects were supermarket employees in Padang Pariaman Regency who use AIS in their daily operations. A quantitative approach was applied using Partial Least Square (PLS) with 30 respondents. The findings indicate that user participation has a positive and significant effect on user satisfaction, while top management support has a positive but insignificant effect. Furthermore, task complexity does not moderate the relationship between user participation or top management support and user satisfaction. These results suggest that user satisfaction is more strongly influenced by direct employee involvement in system utilization rather than structural support from management or the complexity of tasks. This study highlights the importance of individual factors in determining AIS success in the retail sector.

Abstract

The land conflict between Nagari Baringin and Nagari Saruaso in the Gelanggang Dang Tuanku Bukit Gombak area, Batusangkar, has become a major concern within Minangkabau society, as it affects the continuity of horse racing as an alek nagari (traditional village event) that embodies cultural values and social functions in Tanah Datar Regency. This study examines how the conflict influences horse racing activities by applying the historical method, consisting of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. During the heuristic stage, the researcher collected archives, nagari maps, local news articles, previous studies, books, and other official sources, and conducted field observations and interviews with the Head of Jorong, the Ninik Mamak of Bukit Gombak, Baringin and the Wali Nagari, the KAN of Saruaso. The findings indicate that Gelanggang Dang Tuanku Bukit Gombak serves not only as the center of horse racing but also as a cultural symbol for the people of Tanah Datar. The land dispute at the racetrack, caused by economic interests, boundary uncertainties, and weak administrative oversight in 2017, culminated in the cancellation of horse racing activities. Although races resumed the following year, the government’s unresolved determination of the boundary remains a challenge for the sustainability of pacu kuda as an alek nagari in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the legal responsibility of mutual fund organizers at PT. AJ Central Asia Raya (CAR Life Insurance) in Palembang City for losses experienced by investors. A mutual fund is a vehicle for collecting funds from investors to be managed in an investment portfolio by an investment manager. In practice, investor losses often raise legal questions regarding the organizer’s responsibilities. This study employs a normative juridical method using statutory and case study approaches. The findings indicate that mutual fund organizers are obligated to protect investors' interests in accordance with Law Number 8 of 1995 concerning Capital Markets and the regulations of the Financial Services Authority (OJK). If losses occur due to negligence or mismanagement, organizers may be held legally accountable and subject to administrative, civil, or criminal sanctions. The case at PT. AJ Central Asia Raya highlights the importance of increased supervision and accountability in mutual fund management. The study recommends stronger regulatory enforcement and oversight by OJK, along with greater transparency and investor education. These measures are essential to ensure effective legal protection for investors and to maintain public confidence in the mutual fund industry.

Abstract

Technological advances and the widespread use of social media have led to increased activity among content creators in creating and disseminating works, including the use of songs as elements in digital content. However, the use of copyrighted songs without permission raises legal issues related to copyright infringement. The issues raised in this study include: What is the form of application of legal sanctions against users of content creators without permission from song copyright owners on social media based on Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright, and what is the legal protection for users of content creators without permission from song copyright owners on social media according to statutory regulations. The method used is normative juridical with a statutory regulatory approach and literature study. Legal protection in this case is divided into two forms, namely preventive protection and repressive protection. Based on the results of the study, Article 9 paragraph (3) of the Law states that everyone is prohibited from reproducing or utilizing copyrighted works for commercial purposes without permission from the creator or copyright holder. Furthermore, Article 113 paragraph (1) stipulates that copyright infringement can be subject to criminal sanctions or fines. This law also provides a mechanism for resolving disputes through legal channels, both litigation and non-litigation. Therefore, it is crucial for content creators to understand and respect copyright by obtaining official permission or a license before using music or songs in their work.
