Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the unplugged coding method in improving elementary students’ computational thinking skills, identify the CT components that develop, and evaluate its potential as a contextual, inclusive, and sustainable learning solution. This study employs a systematic literature review using the PRISMA technique, selecting 31 journal articles were indexed in reputable databases such as Scopus and SINTA published between 2021 and 2025. The articles were analyzed thematically based on relevance to CT and unplugged methods in elementary education. Results show that the unplugged coding method is an effective and contextually relevant approach to enhancing computational thinking (CT) skills in elementary school students. The effectiveness of this method is reflected in the development of key CT components and its positive contribution to student motivation and engagement in learning. Scientifically, these findings support the argument that strengthening CT does not necessarily rely on digital technology, but can be achieved through contextual and hands-on learning strategies. Therefore, unplugged coding has the potential to serve as a strategic alternative in primary informatics education, particularly in resource-constrained settings. As an implication, this study recommends the development of national teaching guidelines and policies to systematically support the integration of the unplugged approach into the curriculum. Further experimental research across diverse school contexts is needed to assess its long-term impact and to enrich best practices in implementation.

Abstract

Early childhood education is essential for developing children's cognitive potential, particularly in understanding number concepts. Observations at Group A TK Dharma Wanita Dermo, Mojoroto, Kediri City showed that 86.7% of students had difficulty recognizing numbers 1–10. This issue was likely caused by the lack of engaging and creative learning media. This study aimed to improve students' cognitive abilities in recognizing number concepts 1–10 through the use of number card media. The research used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method based on the Kemmis & Taggart model, conducted over two cycles involving stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 13 Group A students in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through observation sheets for teacher and student activities and cognitive assessments using a star rating scale. The hypothesis proposed that number card games could enhance students’ ability to recognize numbers. Results indicated significant improvement across the cycles, supporting the hypothesis. The number card games proved to be an effective, engaging medium for improving numerical understanding in early learners. This research offers practical contributions for early childhood educators by demonstrating the importance of using interactive learning tools. The findings suggest that creative, game-based media can enhance cognitive development and increase learning motivation among young children.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of santri participation in the tahfidz learning program on learning motivation and learning outcomes of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at Rumah Tahfidz Zainal Muhibbin. The background of this study rests on the importance of integrating spiritual values in Islamic Education learning strategies that are not only cognitive, but also affective. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. A sample of 60 students was purposively selected with the criteria of participating in the tahfidz program for at least one semester and having an odd semester PAI report card in the 2024/2025 school year. The instruments used include a Likert scale-based learning motivation questionnaire and PAI score documentation. The results of statistical analysis showed that there was a significant positive relationship between participation in the tahfidz program and learning motivation (r = 0.648; p < 0.05), as well as between participation in tahfidz and PAI learning outcomes (r = 0.611; p < 0.05). Simple regression analysis showed that the tahfidz program contributed 42% to the variation in learning motivation and 37.3% to PAI academic achievement. This finding indicates that participation in tahfidz not only builds religious character, but also has a real impact on students' academic performance. This study confirms the importance of tahfidz program as an integrative pedagogical and spiritual approach in Islamic education learning. It is recommended that Islamic educational institutions develop a curriculum that makes tahfidz as part of strengthening the quality of value-based learning.

Abstract

Background: Fine motor skills are fundamental to a child's early development, influencing their ability to perform daily academic and self-care tasks. However, traditional methods for developing these skills in kindergartens often lack creative andengaging approaches. Kirigami, the Japanese art of cutting and folding paper, has the potential to serve as an interactive learning medium that promotes fine motor skill development through artistic expression and hand coordination.Aims: This paper aims to examine the effectiveness of integrating kirigami as a learning medium to enhance fine motor skills in kindergarten children. The scope includes evaluating improvements in muscle control, hand-eye coordination, and paper manipulation abilities through structured kirigami activities. Methods: The study employed a quasi-experimental design involving 30 children aged 4–6 years, divided equally into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received four weeks of kirigami-integrated sessions, while the control group followed conventional fine motor activities. Pre-test and post-test assessments were conducted using a standardized fine motor rubric. Data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests.Results: The results showed a statistically significant improvement in fine motor skills in the experimental group compared to the control group. Notable gains were observed in scissor control, grip strength, and spatial accuracy. Additionally, qualitative observations indicated increased engagement and enjoyment during kirigami activities. Conclusion: Integrating kirigami into early childhood education serves as an effective, low-cost learning media to enhance fine motor development. It not only supports motor coordination but also fosters creativity and concentration. The study recommends adopting kirigami as a regular component of kindergarten curricula.

Abstract

Numeracy literacy skills are one of the essential competencies of the 21st century, yet national and international assessments show that elementary school students in Indonesia still face difficulties in connecting mathematical concepts to real-world contexts. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a contextual-based numeracy literacy learning model combined with simple digital media in improving student achievement. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group model. Two classes were designated as the experimental and control groups, with an intervention of eight meetings based on everyday life contexts (e.g., market prices and rainfall data) combined with simple digital media such as spreadsheets and visual simulations. The results of the ANCOVA analysis showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, with a large effect size (Hedges' g = 1.12). The strongest improvement occurred in the formulate aspect, followed by employ and interpret. Qualitative findings through interviews and observations also showed increased motivation, active participation, and self-confidence in students. Thus, the contextual model with simple digital support is effective in improving numeracy literacy and is relevant for wider implementation as a learning strategy, while supporting the achievement of SDG 4 on quality and inclusive education.

Abstract

This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, supported by a structured Likert-scale questionnaire distributed online to 20 tutors at LBB YSY PRIVATE. While quantitative instruments were used for data collection, the primary emphasis was placed on the qualitative interpretation of tutors’ perceptions and experiences regarding digital assessment implementation. The analysis process involved categorizing Likert-scale responses to identify prevailing patterns using descriptive statistics, followed by a thematic analysis to uncover deeper qualitative insights from the identified trends. This combined analytical approach allowed for systematic documentation of response frequencies while preserving the depth and complexity typical of qualitative research. The results provide both measurable patterns and a nuanced understanding of tutors’ experiences with Google Forms, highlighting aspects such as perceived efficiency, challenges encountered, and levels of technology acceptance. This hybrid methodology proved particularly valuable in educational technology research, where both empirical data and experiential insights are crucial for a comprehensive understanding.
