Abstract

This study analyzed organizational conflicts at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Indonesian: Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI)) that occurred in 2019. LIPI is the largest research & development institution in Indonesia with the task of promoting sciences. For this reason, the presence of conflicts disturbed its performance. In this study, the researchers applied a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and document study. The results indicated that the source of the conflict was the issuance of LIPI Regulation No. 1/2019 concerning the Organization and Work Procedure of LIPI. Besides, the causes were the presence of conflicts of interest related to the struggle for limited resources, different conceptions & goals in managing the organization, and communication barriers. The impacts of the conflict were demonstrations, the emergence of apathy, individualism, and opportunism in some employees, and the delay of internal services. This conflict was resolved through dialogue, mediation, and speeding up the policy implementation process. In this conflict, the Head of LIPI was the actor who had high power and interest, while human resources (in science and technology and its supporting) and non-civil-servant government employees were internal actors who had high interests but weak power.

Abstract

Abstract

Serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels increases in burn tissue damage. Several bioactive compounds found in Ashitaba, are expected to reduce serum ALP levels and enhance the process of wound healing. This study aims to prove that administration of oral Ashitaba extract can reduce serum ALP levels in rats exposed to burn trauma. This study uses true experimental post-test control group design with a total of 20 Sprague dawley rats as samples. All samples were inflicted with 2nd degree burn wound and divided into 2 groups, treatment group (Ashitaba extract 300 mg/KgBW) and control group. Blood serum were analyzed for ALP levels on the 2nd, 8th and 14th days. Kinetic-IFCC method was used to find serum ALP levels. Data was analyzed using Mann-Whitney Test, paired T-test amd independence T-test. Scalded wound size was measured macroscopically over the course of 21 days to find contracture rate. In conclusion, Ashitaba extract is not proven to significantly reduce the serum ALP levels, increase contracture rate and enhance burn wound healing process. However, there was slight increase in contracture rate in treatment group as compared to control group. In addition, there was a lower ALP levels in treatment group as compared to control group in day 8.

Abstract

Tourism stakeholders must seek out innovative tactics to survive and thrive in the face of adversity. Switching to digital media and developing new digital inventions is thought to be the best option (Heliany, 2019; Irwan & Novianti, 2021). Based on this, we consider it important to see the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Kepulauan Seribu tourism and its relation to digital communication as an effort to minimize the impact of the pandemic which aims to see the optimism of homestay owners. This article provides an overview of the COVID-19 pandemic impact on tourism business owners of homestays in Kepulauan Seribu until 2021Objectives: This article provides an overview of the COVID-19 pandemic impact on tourism business owners of homestays in Kepulauan Seribu until 2021. This study aims to measure the awareness level of health protocols and the decline in income for homestay owners. This study also aims to describe the future recovery opportunities through the readiness of digital communication towards smart-tourism in Kepulauan Seribu and the optimism of homestay owners in developing their homestays in the future.Methodology: This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach. The collection of questionnaire data uses cluster sampling starting on June 23, 2021 until October 7, 2021 with a total of 308 respondents based on collected questionnaires. The study was carried out on 9 islands during the COVID-19 pandemic and under the policy of Restrictions towards Community Activities (abbreviated to PPKM) by Indonesia’s government. The presentation of descriptive data analysis uses SPSS Version 24. To strengthen the analysis, in-depth interviews were carried out with key informants.Finding: The results of data analysis show a 60% decrease in homestay income and the number of tourists during the COVID-19 pandemic. The biggest use of digital marketing is for imaging activity, followed by digital transaction activity, marketing, and receiving criticism and suggestions as only less than 50% of homestay owners have attended training. Although affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, homestay owners are optimistic to continue to develop the capacity of their homestay in the future. Conclusion: The availability of infrastructure to support smart tourism is sufficient. The readiness of human resources in the form of skills in maximizing the use of digital communication for tourism still needs to be supported through continuous digital communication training programs and assistance by tourism-aware groups. Keywords: COVID-19 pandemic; digital communication; Kepulauan Seribu; smart-tourism

Abstract

Introduction: Electric mosquito repellent which contains d-allethrin producing free radicals, affects the quality of sperm motility and morphology. Antioxidants contained in coffee can counteract the free radicals in the body. Objective: To evaluate the effect of coffee on sperm motility and morphology of BALB/c mice exposed to electric mosquito repellent. Methods: In this experimental study was conducted with post-test only control group design, 24 BALB/c mice randomized into 4 groups. The negative control group was a group without treatment. The positive control group was exposed to electric mosquito repellent. Group P1 and P2 were exposed to electric mosquito and given the coffee solutions with the doses respectively 52 mg/0.5 mL and 78 mg/0.5 mL. The treatment was given for 35 days. On the 36th day, all mice were terminated and their sperm motility and morphology were examined. The data were then analyzed with the non-parametric test of Kruskal-Wallis. Differences were considered significant when the value of p<0.05 with confidence interval 95%.Results: The result of pairwise comparison test progressive sperm motility shows that there was a significant difference between positive control group with P2 group (p=0.006), positive control group with negative control group (p<0.001), and P1 group with negative control group (p=0.004). The result of Kruskal-Wallis test for sperm morphology shows that there was no significant difference between those four groups (p=0.885).Conclusion: Coffee can significantly increase the sperm motility but didn’t significantly increase the normal sperm morphology percentage of BALB/c mice exposed by electric mosquito repellent.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the conditions and problems faced by the people in South Central Timor (TTS) Regency, especially those who do people's weaving businesses and to analyze the development communication that occurs in the weaving group assisted by the Trade, Industry and MSME Office of TTS Regency. This study uses a qualitative method with an interpretive approach. Furthermore, the author conducted direct interviews with a group of people's weaving craftsmen under the auspices of the Department of Trade, Industry, Cooperatives and SMEs in TTS Regency. This study found that development communication in an area has not led to empowerment. On the other hand, power dynamics between parents and young people will continue to be a feature of a society. Therefore, development communication must be carried out to facilitate different local cultural communication structures, in order to encourage empowerment not only for parents but also for the younger generation.
