Abstract

Abstract

Background: Osteoporosis is one of chronic degenerative diseases especially in postmenopausal women, characterized by a decreased bone mass due to imbalance activity between osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Recently, oxidative stress is believed to play an important role in osteoporosis pathogenesis. Oxidative stress is commonly considered as the consequence of an imbalance between pro and antioxidants species, which results in damage in the affected tissue. Malondialdehyde (MDA) is frequently used as a biomarker of oxidative stress in many health problems since MDA is produced at high levels during lipid peroxidation. Meanwhile, glutathione is well known as one of antioxidant which against oxidative stress by preserving its homeostasis in the reduced form of glutathione sulfhydryl (GSH) and the oxidized form of glutathione disulphide (GSSG). This study was aimed to determine the association between MDA, GSH/GSSG ratio and bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women.Materials and method: We conducted a cross-sectional study in 40 postmenopausal women. MDA and GSH/GSSG ratio were assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Bone mineral density (BMD) was obtained from secondary data. The statistical analysis was conducted using Spearman rho’s correlation test. Results: Based on the test, we didn’t found significant correlation between MDA and BMD (r=-0.054, p=0.741), but we found significant moderate correlation between GSH/GSSG ratio (r=0.436, p=0.005) and BMD in postmenopausal women. Conclusion: There was no correlation between MDA and BMD in postmenopausal women. However, there was significant moderate correlation between GSH/GSSG ratio and BMD in postmenopausal women. Keywords: MDA, GSH/GSSG ratio, BMD, osteoporosis

Abstract

Thalassemia major patients with routine transfusions are at risk of experiencing iron overload and bone turn over disorders which will increase the risk of osteoporosis. Community training activities with BMD examinations and osteoporosis exercise training in thalassemia major patients are expected to identify the prevalence of bone fragility in thalassemia major patients, increase the awareness of thalassemia major patients and their families to the risk of osteoporosis in thalassemia major patients and osteoporosis exercise training as an effort to prevent osteroporosis. The results of BMD on the spine showed 57.1% osteoporosis, 28.6% normal and 14.3% osteopenia. The results of BMD examination on the cervical spine showed 71.4% osteopenia, 21.4% normal and 7.2% osteoporosis. The results of BMD examination on the femur found 50% normal, 42.8% osteopenia and 7.2% osteoporosis. The bone location with the highest percentage of osteoporosis was the spine (57%), and the bone location with the highest percentage of osteopenia was the neck bone (71.4%). The high percentage of osteopenia locations in the cervical spine of thalassemia major patients with repeated transfusions should be become a concern. Based on these findings, we held education and counselling on the risk of osteoporosis in thalassemia patients with repeated transfusions, osteoporosis exercise training and distribution of osteoporosis exercise compact disk (CD) for at home osteoporosis exercise training.

The purposes of this study are: first, to explore the topics of conversation and interaction of adolescents with their families. Second, to depict four types of communication between adolescents and their families. This study was conducted for 6 months in 6 high schools in Bogor with qualitative methods. Data were obtained through focus group discussion (FGD) in each high school with a total of 12 FGDs. The number of informants involved in the FGD were 60 students aged 15-18 years old. The FGD results show that most of theadolescents shared their personal problems to peers than to parents. The topics presented by adolescents to parents included events at school (lessons, teachers, friends), television shows, ideals, sports, and politics. Some adolescents who had close relationships with parents did not hesitate to share their personal problems and interests of the opposite sex to their parents. Adolescents who had closeness to parents tend to be more open and were able to control their emotions. The findings of this study are expected to provide inputto the family as well as to improve the quality of communication between adolescents and parents.

Abstract

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have very significant contribution to the growth and development of the economy of Bekasi City with a total of approximately 203,000 units. The large number of food processing MSMEs in Bekasi City has not been accompanied by the formation of a spatially integrated MSMEs center zoning. This research aims to understand the spatial distribution and the determination of the zones of food processing MSMEs in Bekasi City. The research was conducted in Bekasi City during February-August 2019. Data were obtained through data tracing from related agencies, field observations, and interviews with experts. Analytical methods include Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine the weight of each parameter, and Multi Criteria Evaluation (MCE) for determining development centers. Analysis shows that the number of selected MSMEs was 220 samples, with the highest number of MSMEs in Pondok Gede District. Food processing MSME development zones in Bekasi City are divided into three development zones, namely development zone 1, development zone 2, and development zone 3. Development zone 1 and development zone 2 are the best zones located in West Bekasi District, Jatiasih District, and Jatisampurna District. Development Zone 2 consists of North Bekasi District, Medan Satria District, Pondok Gede District, and Pondok Melati District because the two zones are adjacent to Jakarta City. Meanwhile, development zone 3 should receive special attention, consisting of Bantar Gebang District, South Bekasi District, East Bekasi District, Mustika Jaya District, and Rawalumbu District.

Abstract

This study analyzed organizational conflicts at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Indonesian: Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI)) that occurred in 2019. LIPI is the largest research & development institution in Indonesia with the task of promoting sciences. For this reason, the presence of conflicts disturbed its performance. In this study, the researchers applied a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and document study. The results indicated that the source of the conflict was the issuance of LIPI Regulation No. 1/2019 concerning the Organization and Work Procedure of LIPI. Besides, the causes were the presence of conflicts of interest related to the struggle for limited resources, different conceptions & goals in managing the organization, and communication barriers. The impacts of the conflict were demonstrations, the emergence of apathy, individualism, and opportunism in some employees, and the delay of internal services. This conflict was resolved through dialogue, mediation, and speeding up the policy implementation process. In this conflict, the Head of LIPI was the actor who had high power and interest, while human resources (in science and technology and its supporting) and non-civil-servant government employees were internal actors who had high interests but weak power.
