Abstract

Education in Islam has always been viewed as a means to achieve spiritual and social liberation. Although many studies discuss educational theory in Islam based on the values of liberation, most remain limited to normative approaches and have not yet integrated critical pedagogy theory within the context of Islamic education. This article aims to explore how the principles of liberation found in the Qur’an can be integrated into a critical and transformative Islamic education, and how this integration can address social injustice and oppression in society. The research employs a qualitative approach through Qur’anic text analysis and literature review on critical pedagogy. The main findings indicate that the Qur’an teaches liberation in spiritual, social, and economic dimensions, aligning with Paulo Freire’s theory of critical pedagogy, which views education as a tool to liberate individuals from oppression. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of integrating principles of liberation into the Islamic education curriculum so that education not only encompasses religious knowledge but also fosters social awareness capable of driving change. This approach is expected to produce a more relevant, participatory, and transformative form of Islamic education that contributes to creating a just society free from injustice.

Abstract

This study addresses the underexplored global patterns in research on Islam and morality, which has been fragmented across various academic disciplines. The central problem lies in the absence of a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the existing literature, leaving gaps in understanding the volume, thematic distribution, and geographical trends in the field. The objective of this research is to systematically map the academic output on Islam and morality by employing a bibliometric approach, focusing on the publications indexed in Scopus between 2015 and 2025. The methodology involves three stages: a literature review, a database search for relevant articles, and an in-depth analysis of publication trends, authorship, and thematic connections using tools like RStudio and VOSviewer. The findings indicate a substantial increase in research output from 2015 to 2024, with a notable peak in 2024, signaling a growing interest in the subject. Key thematic areas that emerged from the network analysis include morality, Islamic law, ethics, and gender, demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of the field. The study also highlights a dominance of certain countries like Indonesia, the United States, and Turkey in contributing to the literature. The results suggest that Islam and morality are gaining importance not only in religious studies but also in bioethics, social sciences, and gender studies. The implications of this research stress the need for further exploration of underrepresented topics, such as sustainability and bureaucracy, and call for increased global collaboration to bridge knowledge gaps.

Abstract

This comparative study analyzes the relevance of the methodology of the interpretation of two Kalimantan scholars, Sheikh Muhammad Arsyad al-Banjari (pre-modern) and Muhammad Basiuni Imran(transitional era), with the framework of muhammadiyah interpretation (modern), focusing on two problem formulations: (1) the intellectual relationship and methodological relevance between the three, and (2) the relevance of their interpretation methods to the development of religion in Kalimantan. With a qualitative method based on literature studies and content analysis, this study finds that there is an intellectual common thread in the spirit of tajdid, the use of rationality, and contextualization, but with fundamental differences in the institutional model in which Muhammadiyah has succeeded in building a sustainable collective model, in contrast to the individual model of the two ulama. The implications of this research offer a historical perspective for the development of a contextual and moderate Indonesian Islamic discourse, as well as conclude that the thoughts of the two scholars have a deep compatibility with Muhammadiyah, whose excellence lies in the ability to institutionalize the intellectual heritage adaptively.

Abstract

This study aims to map the development of waqf and legal studies indexed in the Scopus database in the period 2016-2025 with a bibliometric approach. The analysis was carried out to identify the main trends, patterns of collaboration between authors, distribution of publications based on institutional and country affiliations, and characteristics of journal sources that became publication media. The bibliometric method was applied by utilizing VOSviewer software for co-occurrence network visualization and Microsoft Excel for quantitative data processing and analysis. The results show that Indonesia (43.5%) and Malaysia (23.1%) are the countries with the highest research productivity in this field, with significant contributions from the United States (11.6%). The International Islamic University was recorded as the academic institution with the highest number of publications (15.4%), followed by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universitas Padjajaran (13.5% each). From an individual perspective, publication patterns show a relatively even distribution, with 40% of researchers producing three publications and 60% of researchers producing two publications. Analysis of journal sources revealed that the three main journals served as publication platforms for 13.9% of the total articles analyzed. Temporal trends show a significant increase in research productivity, with the highest spike in 2024 (22 publications) and the most notable acceleration of research occurring in the period 2018-2021. These findings indicate significant developments in waqf studies, particularly in countries with predominantly Muslim populations, and point to a growing research ecosystem with a wider diversification of publication platform.
