Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, with an emphasis on personalized learning across K–12, higher education, and online learning, and evaluates both its benefits and implementation challenges. Methodology: The research uses a qualitative literature-based synthesis of empirical and conceptual studies on AI-enabled personalized learning. Evidence is compared across education levels and learning domains to identify (1) observed learning impacts (e.g., engagement and achievement) and (2) recurring adoption barriers (e.g., infrastructure readiness, equity, and governance). Results: The findings indicate that AI-supported personalized learning can improve learner engagement and motivation by delivering adaptive content and feedback. Reported outcomes include performance gains in adaptive learning implementations, such as an increase in average scores from 68.4 to 82.7. However, implementation obstacles remain substantial, including limited infrastructure, unequal access, insufficient educator training, data privacy risks, and institutional resistance to change. Several studies also highlight unintended effects such as learner over-reliance on technology and reduced teacher–student social interaction. Applications/Originality/Value: This study consolidates cross-level evidence on where AI personalization is most effective and where it is most fragile. It provides practical implications for policymakers and institutions: invest in infrastructure, deliver sustained teacher training, and enforce strict data protection governance to enable responsible adoption. The study argues for a balanced integration model that leverages AI’s adaptivity while preserving human-centered educational values.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to analyze the meaning of fasād in the Qur'an as a form of ecotheological criticism of the exploitation of contemporary nature, as well as to reinterpret Islamic values in responding to modern environmental crises. This study departs from the assumption that the meaning of fasād in the interpretation of the Qur'an tends to be limited to the moral and social dimensions, so that its ecological aspects have not been explored optimally. Methodology: The methodology used is qualitative research based on literature studies with a thematic interpretation approach (mawḍū'ī), accompanied by linguistic and ecotheological analysis of the verses of the Qur'an that contain the concept of fasād. The research data is sourced from contemporary interpretive literature and relevant Islamic ecotheological studies. Results: The results of the study show that the fasād in the Qur'an has a multidimensional meaning that includes moral, social, and ecological damage as a result of human deviations in carrying out the caliphate's mandate. The concept of fasād is positioned as a normative critique of human-nature relations that are exploitative and anthropocentric. These findings confirm that the Qur'an offers an ecological ethical framework that emphasizes balance, responsibility, and sustainability. Applications/Originality/Value: The novelty of this research lies in the interpretation of fasād as an ecotheological concept of the Qur'an that reconstructs damage not only morally-socially, but also ecologically, and positions it as an Islamic theological critique of contemporary environmental exploitation through a thematic interpretation approach and linguistic- ecoteological analysis.

Abstract

The concept of ahl al-dzikr in the Qur'an is a normative as well as an epistemological category that functions as a reference for religious authorities in Islam. In the classical Islamic tradition, ahl al-dzikr is understood as a subject of knowledge that gains legitimacy through scientific competence, interpretation methodology, sanad transmission, and institutional recognition. However, the development of the digital space has significantly reconfigured the mechanisms of formation and legitimacy of religious authorities. Social media and online da'wah platforms encourage a shift in authority from a scientific basis to a visibility, performativity, and algorithmic basis, thus giving rise to an implicit redefinition of the meaning of ahl al-dzikr. This article aims to critically analyze the shift in the meaning of ahl al-dzikr in the digital era as a paradigmatic transformation of Islamic religious authority, not just a change in the medium of da'wah. This research uses a qualitative approach with a conceptual-critical design through a systematic literature study of normative-classical sources and contemporary studies of digital Islam. The analysis was carried out by integrating critical discourse analysis and contextual hermeneutics to read the tension between the normative meaning of the Qur'an and the practice of religious authority in the digital space. The results of the study show that the shift in the meaning of ahl al-dzikr has implications for the fragmentation of authority, the relativization of religious references, and the blurring of the boundary between scientific authority and religious popularity. Although the digital space opens up opportunities for wider religious participation, this condition poses epistemological and theological problems related to the legitimacy of religious authority. This article offers a rearticulation of ahl al-dzikr as an epistemological concept that remains rooted in Islamic scientific principles, as well as adaptive to digital reality, in order to strengthen responsible digital religious literacy.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of Qur'an translation in Indonesia, focusing on the relationship between modern Islamic movements and the development of tafsiriyah translations. Through a case study of the work of Muhammad Thalib, the leader of the Indonesian Mujahidin Council (MMI), this article shows that Qur'an translation not only functions as a religious or linguistic activity, but is also used as a political and ideological tool to fight for the formalization of Islamic law in national life. This study uses a library study method with a discourse analysis approach to the translated texts of Thalib's tafsiriyah and MMI movement documents. The results reveal that Thalib's tafsiriyah translations, particularly his work entitled Al-Qur'anul Karim: Tarjamah Tafsiriyah, were developed as a corrective response to the official translation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as a medium for disseminating Islamist discourse that emphasizes the enforcement of sharia in its entirety, rejection of religious pluralism, and criticism of the democratic system. Analysis of several key verses shows that Thalib's interpretation tends to direct the meaning of the verses according to the movement's agenda, such as emphasizing male leadership (Q.S. an-Nisa: 34), the state's obligation to collect zakat (Q.S. at-Taubah: 103), and the integrity of the implementation of sharia (Q.S. Ali Imran: 103). Thus, this article concludes that the development of tafsiriyah translations in Indonesia cannot be separated from the socio-political context after the 1998 Reformation, where Islamic movements utilized freedom of expression to fight for their ideological visions through the medium of translating holy books.

Abstract

This study aims to map the development of waqf and legal studies indexed in the Scopus database in the period 2016-2025 with a bibliometric approach. The analysis was carried out to identify the main trends, patterns of collaboration between authors, distribution of publications based on institutional and country affiliations, and characteristics of journal sources that became publication media. The bibliometric method was applied by utilizing VOSviewer software for co-occurrence network visualization and Microsoft Excel for quantitative data processing and analysis. The results show that Indonesia (43.5%) and Malaysia (23.1%) are the countries with the highest research productivity in this field, with significant contributions from the United States (11.6%). The International Islamic University was recorded as the academic institution with the highest number of publications (15.4%), followed by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universitas Padjajaran (13.5% each). From an individual perspective, publication patterns show a relatively even distribution, with 40% of researchers producing three publications and 60% of researchers producing two publications. Analysis of journal sources revealed that the three main journals served as publication platforms for 13.9% of the total articles analyzed. Temporal trends show a significant increase in research productivity, with the highest spike in 2024 (22 publications) and the most notable acceleration of research occurring in the period 2018-2021. These findings indicate significant developments in waqf studies, particularly in countries with predominantly Muslim populations, and point to a growing research ecosystem with a wider diversification of publication platform.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the integration between Qur’anic exegesis and molecular nutrition science, with a focus on carbohydrates as the main theme examined through the tafsir ilmi (scientific interpretation) approach. This research adopts a qualitative method based on a literature review, utilizing two primary sources: the Tafsir Ilmi published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and Tafsir Al-Jawahir by Tantawi Jauhari. Both represent interpretive models that attempt to bridge divine revelation with contemporary scientific findings. Carbohydrates are essential nutrients in the biological life of living beings. They function as the primary source of energy, structural components of cells, and regulators of metabolism. Although not explicitly mentioned in the Qur’an, several verses imply references to food items such as grains, dates, grapes, and honey—all of which are sources of carbohydrates. Interpreting these verses through scientific and molecular nutrition perspectives provides contextual understanding regarding dietary ethics and nutritional balance in Islam. The findings indicate that the Tafsir Ilmi of the Ministry takes a deductive-confirmatory approach by linking Qur’anic verses to modern scientific theories, while Tafsir Al-Jawahir adopts a more philosophical and reflective style, emphasizing the order of nature as a manifestation of divine law. Both interpretations highlight the importance of carbohydrates in sustaining life and maintaining ecological balance. This study concludes that the integration of exegesis and science contributes to a rational understanding of revelation and is relevant in addressing contemporary issues such as healthy eating patterns and the prevention of metabolic diseases. This research reinforces the importance of interdisciplinary Qur’anic studies in meeting the current needs of the Muslim community.

Abstract

This article discusses the interpretation of Qur'anic verses about food and energy with a focus on carbohydrates from the perspective of Tafsir Ilmi of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia. The verses analyzed include Q.S. al-An'ām [6]: 95, Q.S. al-Mu'minūn [23]: 19, Q.S. Maryam [19]: 25, and Q.S. an-Naḥl [16]: 68–69, which allude to grains, fruits, dates, and honey as the source of human life. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach and descriptive-analytical analysis of the Scientific Interpretation of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, by comparing it in a limited way with classical and modern interpretations. The results of the study show that the Tafsir Ilmi of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia understands these verses by relating them to the findings of modern nutrition science, especially the function of carbohydrates as the main source of energy for the human body. Grains are understood as a source of complex carbohydrates, while dates, grapes, and honey are categorized as simple sources of carbohydrates that are easily digestible and quickly absorbed. The Scientific Interpretation does not make the Qur'an the basis for the formation of biochemical theories, but rather places science as a tool to affirm the function of food in the order of Allah's creation. Thus, the interpretation of Ilmi acts as a conceptual bridge between revelation and modern nutritional science, as well as showing methodological prudence in the integration of the Qur'an and science

Abstract

This study examines the dimension of socio-political criticism in Tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka with a focus on the value of justice as the central theme. The Tafsir of Al-Azhar is not only a monumental work in the Islamic scientific treasures in the archipelago, but also a reflection of the thinking of a scholar who is responsive to the socio-political dynamics of his time. Hamka, as a mufasir as well as a social activist, integrates the textual understanding of the Qur'an with the historical context and empirical reality of society, resulting in contextual and applicative interpretations. This study uses a qualitative method with a hermeneutical-critical approach to analyze how Hamka constructs the concept of socio-political justice through his interpretation of the verses of the Qur'an. The findings of the study show that Hamka's socio-political criticism in Tafsir Al-Azhar includes three main dimensions: first, criticism of the arbitrariness of rulers and abuse of power; second, advocacy for the rights of the oppressed and marginalized groups; and third, emphasis on the principles of deliberation and political participation as a mechanism for the realization of justice. Hamka emphasized that justice is a fundamental value in Islam that must be implemented concretely in the political system and social structure. The concept of justice in Tafsir Al-Azhar is not limited to the individual-spiritual dimension, but extends to the collective-structural level that includes economic distribution, legal equality, and political participation. This research makes a theoretical contribution to the study of Indonesian contextual interpretation and a practical contribution to the development of Islamic political ethics based on the Qur'an.

Abstract

The issue of Islamic education has always been an intriguing topic of scholarly inquiry. The use of hermeneutics as the foundational basis of Islamic education is grounded in the Qur’an and prophetic teachings. The objective of this study is to analyze the extent to which the hermeneutic method can serve as a foundation for Islamic education. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. The data sources consist of both primary and secondary materials. Primary data were obtained from key reference books, while secondary data were drawn from relevant journals, books, magazines, and other documents related to this research. The data were analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that Islamic education requires the integration of cognitive, affective, and spiritual dimensions, all of which aim to bring human beings closer to God and to actualize their human potential. Thus, Qur’anic and prophetic hermeneutics offer a dynamic conceptual framework for understanding Islamic education as a process of meaning-making rather than merely a transfer of knowledge.
