Abstract

The digitalization of chemistry education is crucial for ensuring inclusivity and equal learning opportunities, particularly for students with intellectual disabilities. This study investigated students’ functional learning profiles through digital student worksheets (e-LAPD) on atomic theories, integrated with individualized strategies based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) via the Liveworksheet platform. A mixed-methods approach with a concurrent embedded design was applied, involving three students with intellectual disabilities at SMAN 10 Surabaya. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews and classroom observations, then thematically analyzed using NVivo 11, which yielded two major themes: the implementation of e-LAPD and students’ learning profiles. The analysis revealed that the implementation of e-LAPD effectively supported students’ understanding of the development of atomic theories, as evidenced by quantitative results obtained from questionnaire responses and pre-test/post-test instruments. Questionnaire data indicated that 100% of students reported improved conceptual understanding through e-LAPD. Furthermore, pre-test and post-test results showed a significant improvement with a high average N-gain score of 0.88. In addition, the findings highlighted students’ learning abilities and learning profiles, such as their tendency to engage with interactive visual media, their preference for verbal explanations, and their reliance on physical interaction during learning activities.

Abstract

The characteristics of students with intellectual disabilities who have difficulty processing information require innovation and the use of learning media that are specifically designed for students with intellectual disabilities. However, innovation and the use of learning media, especially E-LAPD , are still very limited. This study analyzes the learning styles and outcomes of students with intellectual disabilities in understanding the mole concept material through the use of E-LAPD for individual learning. The study uses mixed method design with a type of concurrent embedded design, which both quantitative and qualitative data are collected simultaneously. Three students with intellectual disabilities in SMAN 10 Surabaya as research subjects. Data collection through interviews and pretest-posttest questions. The results of the interview were analyzed using NVivo 11 software in the form of matrix query coding. Quantitative data analysis uses descriptive statistics by comparing the pretest and posttest scores of each student. The research results indicated that the learning styles frequency of students with intellectual disabilities is a visual learning style. Pretest and posttest results significantly increase, indicating increased learning outcomes. The use of E-LAPD can simplify chemical concepts into visual information, so as to improve the learning outcomes of students with intellectual disabilities.

Abstract

In the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) context, where students must communicate effectively for academic and professional goals, oral presentation skills are especially important. However, many college students struggle with nervousness, low self-esteem, and a lack of opportunities to practice speaking English in traditional live presentations. The current study examines students’ opinions regarding the usage of video-recorded presentations as a substitute oral presentation task in an ESP class to address the issues. 26 students studying Civil Engineering at a private university in Indonesia participated in the study, which used a quantitative research approach. Students’ opinions prior to, during, and following video-recorded presentations were examined using a closed-ended questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale. The results show that students' perceptions of video-recorded presentations are generally favourable. Pronunciation, fluency, grammatical accuracy, and presentation structure were all evaluated by most participants as being improved by this method. Additionally, speaking anxiety was lessened, confidence was boosted, and adequate preparation time was provided by video-recorded presentations. Students' enthusiasm was also bolstered by encouraging comments from their teachers and peers. Video-recorded presentations were seen as a helpful and encouraging learning technique, even though they required extra preparation time. The study concludes that, in ESP and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context, video-recorded presentations can be a useful teaching technique for improving students' oral presentation skills.

Abstract

Abstract - St. Gabriel's Church is the house of God and a place for Catholics to worship Him. St. Gabriel Catholic Church has a concept that prioritizes the relationship between human and God; between human and other people; and between human and the environment. Spatial comfort is an important factor in supporting the atmosphere of worship, therefore St. Gabriel Church strengthens the concepts with the application of passive and ecological design. The concept is applied through transparency and openness of large church buildings to the environment, to optimize natural lighting and air conditioning. This makes the physical form of St. Gabriel Church looks different from the Catholic Church in general, which is relatively closed with limited openings, to minimize noise disturbances from outside in order to form a more sacred atmosphere of worship. The experience of the room in the church will affect the atmosphere of worship and the experience of spirituality of the congregation when carrying out worship activities. The atmosphere and use of space are not only perceived through visual sense, but also through auditory and olfactory sense. Therefore, this research is interesting to be conducted, in order to understand how a design opening in a sacred building can effecting the congregation’s sense of sacred space. This study applies qualitative – descriptive approaches. The data was collected by field observation, literature studies, and disseminating questionnaires to church congregations. The data is analyzed in accordance with the theoretical studies used and also from the results of questionnaires regarding the sense of sacred space of the congregation concerning the design of openings at St. Gabriel's Church. The results showed that the sense of sacred space of the congregation can be formed, with a calm and conducive atmosphere of worship space. The building openings have an important role in shaping that atmosphere. Therefore, it can be concluded that the visual and audial quality resulting from the openings, whereas their role as role as an audio – visuals buffer are greater than the role as a light filter, will create congregations’ sense of sacred space in the St. Gabriel’s Church. Keywords: Building Openings, Catholic Church, Sense of Sacred Space.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of legal remedies for objections in small claims lawsuits at the Manado District Court based on PERMA No. 2 of 2015 in conjunction with PERMA No. 4 of 2019. The problem formulations include: (1) how to apply objections in small claims lawsuits; and (2) what efforts are made to realize justice in this mechanism. The study uses a socio-legal/juridical sociological approach by combining analysis of written legal norms and empirical data through literature studies, decision analysis, and interviews with judges and judicial officials. The results of the study indicate that procedurally and structurally, the objection mechanism at the Manado District Court is basically in accordance with the provisions of PERMA, both regarding procedures and deadlines, so that the principles of simplicity, speed, and low cost are relatively achieved. However, the justice realized is more prominent in the procedural aspect than in the substantive, especially for parties who are not accompanied by legal counsel and have difficulty compiling a legal objection memorandum. The study concludes that the main challenge lies in the legal culture and capacity of the actors, so that it is necessary to increase socialization, legal literacy, legal assistance, and technical guidelines so that objections in small claims are more effective and just.
