Abstract

This study addresses three main inquiries: 1) How to effectively classify Indonesian words based on frequency? 2) What are the distinctive characteristics of words across various proficiency levels? 3) How is vocabulary utilized in BIPA teaching materials? The article aims to create a graded vocabulary list to assess lexical complexity by examining word distribution in texts. Using a quantitative descriptive method, high-frequency words are chosen from eight widely-used Chinese BIPA language sources and categorized into frequency tiers using the %WF>=P method. The graded word list is then applied to BIPA textbooks to assess discourse difficulty. A total of 5,700 word families are organized into five proficiency grades based on cumulative frequencies. Analysis reveals that high-frequency words show a balanced distribution across materials, with a prevalence of polysemous words and concentrated word lengths. Low-frequency words are more domain-specific, emphasizing specific meanings and displaying a broader range of lengths. Examining word usage in different texts indicates alignment between Indonesian teaching materials, academic journals, newspapers, and audio-visual materials with BIPA textbooks. Speech scripts and public documents are more suitable for advanced teaching, while social media language differs notably from BIPA textbooks.

Abstract

Self-regulated e-learning modules are an innovative teaching method to increase student success and results in light of the desire to include technology in nursing education and the rising demand for online training. According to a learning requirements analysis, the addition of a self-directed, self-paced e-learning module might give students a way to more adequately get ready for a scenario simulating pediatric dehydration with medium realism. Three members of the faculty—a faculty topic specialist, a faculty content consultant, and a librarian/instructional designer—were assembled into a collaborative, interdisciplinary project team. Using the notion of self-regulated learning, the team created an online learning module. The purpose of this module is to better prepare undergraduate nursing students for pediatric simulation. It is an asynchronous, standalone, self-paced supplement. The inclusion of an online learning module will improve student engagement with the subject matter and encourage greater self-directed learning.

Abstract

National insight is an important concept that should be internalized by the younger generation. The understanding of national insight among students, as the younger generation, is still categorized as insufficient, so efforts are needed to strengthen national insight through the Compulsory Curriculum Subjects of Indonesian Language. This research aims to reveal the ideology of national insight within the teaching materials of Compulsory Curriculum Subjects of Indonesian Language from Norman Fairclough's perspective in 2013 with the theory of critical discourse analysis. This research used a qualitative approach. The research data were obtained from texts in the teaching materials of Compulsory Curriculum Subjects of Indonesian Language. Texts containing the concept of national insight were analyzed using Norman Fairclough's 2013 model of critical discourse analysis. The research data obtained were analyzed through the stages of reduction, presentation and verification. The data validation in this research was conducted using triangulation techniques. The results showed that in terms of the text aspect, both texts represent the ideology of love for the nation and homeland, as well as the aspiration for a just and prosperous society, through a text theme focusing on the obligation to pay taxes. In terms of discourse practice, the role of language in both texts serves as a tool for promoting an ideology by the involved groups. Furthermore, in terms of social-cultural practice, both texts emphasize socio-economic aspects. In conclusion, the teaching materials of Compulsory Curriculum Subjects of Indonesian Language represent several ideologies of national insight through texts that are presented as a means of spreading ideology by considering social and economic aspects. The results of this research have implications for national insight education for students in higher education through texts containing national insight contained in teaching material of Compulsory Curriculum Subjects of Indonesian Language.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of speaking skills for students. This is proven by the existence of courses or speaking material that students must master. The reality is, there are still students who have problems or lack skills in speaking. So it is very important for educators to improve students' speaking skills. Therefore, this research aims to recommend learning methods that have been proven to improve speaking skills. This type of research is a literature review study. The instrument used in this research is a documentation study. Articles collected via Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and Sciencedirect search engines. The data sources in this research amounted to 15 articles, 8 articles obtained from Google Scholar, 5 articles from Researchgate, and 2 Scopus articles. The data sources in this research start from 2017 to 2023. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis, namely describing the articles found in accordance with the research objectives. The research results showed that there are 6 learning methods that have been proven to improve students' speaking skills, namely the debate method, Numbered Head method, project-based learning method, based learning method, jigsau method, and stand up category method; 4 learning models that have been proven to improve students' speaking skills, namely the mind mapping learning model, service project-based learning model, Auditory Intellectually Repetition (AIR) model, and Information learning model; 1 learning strategy that has been proven to improve students' speaking skills. based on collective reflection.
