Abstract

This study aims to determine and compare antioxidant activity, total phenolics, flavonoids, and the relationship of phenolic and total flavonoids with the antioxidant activity of the three kratom variants. The ethanol extract of the third variant of kratom leaves was obtained by maceration. Through the antioxidant activity test using DPPH method, all three extracts showed strong antioxidant activity with IC50 values of 26.39, 30.25, and 30.59 g/mL. The relationship of total phenolics and flavonoids with antioxidant activity was determined by the Pearson correlation test. Examination of total phenolic content using the Folin-Ciocalteu method with successive results for green, red, and white kratom are 6.11, 8.67, and 9.09 mg GAE/g extract. Examination of total flavonoid content using the colorimetric method for green, red, and white kratom were 0.86, 0.68, and 1.13 mg QE/g extract, respectively. The total phenolic content and antioxidant activity showed a correlation coefficient value of -0.32 (P0.05), and the total flavonoid content to antioxidant activity showed a correlation coefficient value of 0.81 (P0.05). Thus, all three variants of kratom have potency as natural antioxidants, but their total phenolic and flavonoid content does not influence their antioxidant activity.

Abstract

abstrakThis research was based on the   problem of   the students misconceptions on the acid-base material. To overcome this misconception, refutation text teaching materials were developed. This study aimed to produce a teaching material and examine the responses of students and teachers at SMA Negeri 6 Pontianak and SMA Negeri 9 Pontianak on teaching materials developed using the ADDIE development model. In a small group trial, the model was applied on 8 students of class XI MIA. In a large group trial, it was applied on 64 students and 2 chemistry teachers in the studied schools. The instrumentation of the research data used were eligibility options, student questionnaires, and teacher response questionnaires. The results of data processing showed that the teaching materials developed are suitable for use in learning from the validation of the feasibility of the material by 92.72%, the feasibility of language by 92.11%, and the feasibility of graphics by 95.89% with a very feasible category. Based on the results of student questionnaire calculations, the responses obtained were 95.31% in small group trials, 89.18% in large group trials, and 91.66% in teacher responses. This showed that the response of students and teachers to refutation text teaching materials for acid-base materials at SMA Negeri 6 Pontianak and MSA Negeri 9 Pontianak was classified as very high. Thus, refutation text can be used as teaching material for acid-base materials. Keywords  ADDIE, Misconceptions, Refutation Text

Abstract

Liver, colon, and cervical cancer are the top three types of cancer which rank in the top five worldwide in terms of incidence and mortality. Simpur air (Dillenia suffruticosa)plant has traditionally been used for the treatment of various diseases, one of which is cancer. This study aims to prove cytotoxic effect and selectivity of simpur air wood bark fractions against liver HepG2, colon WiDr, and cervical HeLa cancer cells. Simpur air wood bark is macerated using 96% methanol. The methanolic crude extract was fractionated with the liquid-liquid partition method using n-hexane and ethyl acetate. Cytotoxicity test using MTT assay method. The result showed that the methanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and methanol fraction in liver HepG2 cancer cells had IC50 values 179,32±13,55; 85,14±8,58; 140,08±22,63; >500 µg/mL and in colon WiDr cancer cells had IC50 values 133,02±27,64; 41,54±37,58; 124,76±17,22; >500 µg/mL. Meanwhile, all fractions had IC50 values >500 µg/mL in HeLa cervical cancer cells. These data indicate that the n-hexane fraction in WiDr cells is potentially cytotoxic and selective with a selectivity index value greater than 3. Thus, simpur air wood bark has the potential to be developed as an anticancer drug candidate.

Abstract

This study discusses the ineffective chemistry learning process resulting in poor grades at State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Rasau Jaya, students tend to receive information from the teacher without constructing their own knowledge, so students have difficulty in constructing the material obtained from the teacher. The purpose of this study is to describe the learning outcomes of students in 11th Grade Science Class odd semester in chemistry subjects at SMAN 1 Rasau Jaya. The form of research used in this research is descriptive research, and the type of research is a case study. Case study is one of qualitative research, in which researchers conduct in-depth exploration of programs, events, processes, activities, for one or more people. The subjects of this study were students of 11th Grade Science Class at SMAN 1 Rasau Jaya in the 2019/2020 school year who took the odd semester general test, totaling 93 students. The research process includes three stages, namely the preparation stage, the implementation stage, and the final stage. The data collection tool used is the odd semester general test score. Results and Discussion regarding Indicator 1: List the general formula of alkane, alkene and alkyne compounds, Indicator 2: Mention the law of conservation of energy, Indicator 3: Determine the number of moles from the results of the experiment, Indicator 4: Determine the value of the equilibrium constant Kc based on the reaction. The results of the general test conducted on 11th Grade students of SMAN 1 Rasau Jaya can be concluded that the learning outcomes of students in the class are not adequate.

Abstract

The use of ICT in education in the 21st century has facilitated educators to make changes in learning, so that learning becomes challenging and fun. This study aims to describe the perception of teachers regarding the use of information and communication technology in chemistry learning. For this purpose, a survey was conducted to collect data from 20 techers in Sintang and its surrounding areas. The method used is the descriptive method. The teachers’ persception questionnaire on ICT in chemistry learning was addopted from Teachers’ perception towards ICT in the teaching- learning process: Scale validty and reliability study were translated into Indonesian and modified to suit the conditions of the school. The results showed that the average perception of educators on the use of ICT in chemistry learning was 78,91 with a “Good” category, it is known that the use of ICT in chemistry learning is still not implemented for all educators
